Don't blame me
KAMILAH’S POV
“Alpha…something happened… I need your help.”
I instantly mind-linked Alpha Magnus, now desperate.
He seemed to hold a grasp of things as he replied, “Stay where you are and don’t move. I’m on my way.”
I gulped, to think she had just become my friend.
And she’s Owen’s mate. What would he do if he knew?
Alpha Magnus soon arrived in his black furry wolf with ten backups, including Dimitri tailing behind him. He approached the tree and sniffed.
“The attacker is just nearby. Dimitri, trace him!”
Dimitri, in his sandy fur, quickly moved and got five of his men with him as they ran off.
I faced Alpha Magnus, “Him? How’d you know?”
He gritted his teeth, “He must be the only one judging by the claw and the markings. From the looks of it, he did it so abruptly.”
He then looked at my body checking for any signs of bruises, “Are you hurt?”
I shook my head, “I’m alright.”
“Good, report to me everything that happened and leave no details.” He sharply ordered and spilled every detail. How we got here and what we did. Alpha Magnus focused, his eyes menacing.
As I was finished, he clenched his jaw, “Who would dare to kill my pack members, right in my territory?!” He raged, howling before turning around, “We must get back to our packhouse and settle things. Keep yourself in the room. Are we clear?”
I shook my head, “No, I need to go to Owen and tell him what happened to his mate.”
He stopped me from moving, “No, it would be best to stay still. Tyra is Owen’s mate. And you were with her when it happened. He might get blurred with rage and kill you.”
I gasped, “But-But I’ll explain, Owen, is my friend-“
“It’s not about the matter of friendship, Kamilah. Just listen to me. It’s really starting.”
I furrowed my eyebrows, “What’s starting?”
With a final look, he pursed his lips, “You’ll know soon.”
As soon as we got back to the packhouse, I went to my room and locked the door. I took a shower to wash away all my regret and ease.
If only I got out of the water and protected Tyra. If only I made it in time.
Regret filled all my mind and ate me alive.
What now? What will I do? I couldn’t turn back time. A tear that I didn’t know that I was holding escaped my eye and I let it fall. I let myself be vulnerable.
She was so dear to me. That little trip we had to the river gave me a chance to get to know her better and just when I finally got comfortable with someone, this happened. Whoever the killer was, he won’t get away from it.
I got out of the shower and dressed up in my pants. I instantly climbed on my bed when a paper fell out from my blankets. I picked it up and I gasped as I read the words written in blood.
“Missed me?”
Judging from the smell, it was Tyra’s. I instantly got out and went to Alpha Magnus’ study where he was filling some papers, the other pack warriors were with him. He sniffed the air and looked up at me with wide eyes before making his pack warriors leave.
He stood up to grab my shoulders, seeing the paper I was holding, “What is that?” Why do you have Tyra’s blood?”
I nodded, “Yeah, I found it on my bed after I took a shower.”
Alpha Magnus read it, before grabbing it and putting it in a stash of plastic bags. He muttered a curse.
“It must be from my past pack,” I spoke up and he looked at me. I mean the only person who’s brazen enough to bully me here is Stacy, which I doubt. She’s not that strong.
And from my past pack, the only person in my mind who could do it is Darian and Valentina. Darian has the ability, he’s strong enough to do this, but I know he doesn't have the intentions to do so.
If it’s Valentina, she might have the intentions to ruin me, but she doesn’t have the power or ability to kill Tyra, one of the strong members of the BloodLust pack.
Alpha Magnus grabbed my hand to cut off my thoughts, “Whatever you saw from the incident or in this paper, don’t tell to anyone. Understood?”
I nodded and he made me return to my room, reminding me not to leave until he told me so.
I didn’t know I had fallen asleep and soon after that night, a knocking came from outside the door.
“The Alpha wants you out now. Let’s go to the funeral.” Dimitri’s voice said and I stood up to open it.
He then guided me to the funeral where Alpha Magnus was standing at the front, looking at each of his pack members.
Candles were placed at each side as the pack members surrounded Tyra’s burial, their faces grim with expression.
I joined in with them beside Dimitri as Alpha Magnus started his speech.
“We have lost a member today. Tyra will forever be remembered in our hearts. And I am taking this as a chance to warn everyone. Do not do something suspicious, I am watching you all. Not until the killer is caught, I’ll raise the security patrols in the area and no one will be allowed to leave.”
My eyes incidentally met with Owen’s blue ones and the sadness in his eyes turned into anger, he stormed into me. “You killer! You killed my mate!”
Thora was quick enough to stop him from fully attacking me.
Dimitri came to my side, defending me from him. “Owen, calm down. Do not blame her for this.”
Owen laughed out of madness, completely not himself now. Gone were the cheeky and flirty Owen that I knew for just a day.
“Then who should I blame? Tell me, Dimitri? Who? The real killer is not yet found. And that time, Kamilah was the only one with her.”
Stacey comes in. “Yes, it was only you, Kamilah. You should have protected her, but you just let your dear friend Tyra be killed just like that. Isn’t that suspicious enough?”
“This is no one’s fault.” Alpha Magnus interjected. “I will take full responsibility, so stop blaming anyone until we have found evidence.”
