The past must not come back
“But if you love her, let her go.” Owen backed me up. I knew we didn’t end on a good note with his mate Tyra getting killed but I’m just surprised at how brave he is for defending my wishes and standing up against the Alpha himself.
That really takes a lot of bravery.
He leaned toward me and whispered, “Just go, I’ll distract him-”
“You don’t have to. I’ll let her leave.” Alpha interjected, now giving up. “Then do what you want, Kamilah. I won’t stop you from leaving my pack. But remember they will be after you, and you will be needing my help soon.”
I know that. They will be after me but I will be strong. If they’ll kill me then let them. I will come at them for messing with me. And with that, Magnus didn’t even move an inch from where he stood as I started to run away. I continued running. I even looked back to see him just watching me from afar silently.
I could feel long strides then followed and I didn’t have to look back to see Owen was following me.
“You run fast.” He commented.
“Yeah…” I said, not sure what to reply, “Thank you for defending me back there…but why are you following me? Did he send you?” I asked.
He shook his head, now matching my pace, “I’ll leave the pack too.”
It didn’t shock me that much to his reply, but it’s just that I just couldn’t fathom how Alpha Magnus, the strict alpha of his pack, really let him leave.
I want to ask Owen why but I seemed to know the reason. Of course, it’s because of Tyra. After her death, he looked lifeless. I guess he’s not blaming me now but instead blaming Alpha Magnus for what happened.
I feel pity for him but I just couldn’t judge him. I didn’t experience losing a mate like that….
But then…I just left Alpha Magnus, who’s claiming to be my mate. I’m not even sure if leaving him like this cuts our connection. Whatever there may be in that Bloodmoon.
“So where are you going?” I suddenly brought up, curious about his plan.
“I don’t know, for now, I’m just going to accompany you and will separate from you soon. What about you?”
I shrugged at his question, “I don’t know either.” We both suddenly burst into laughter, realizing the situation we were in. It’s like we carried a gun without bullets on a battlefield because of how unprepared we are. For now, we need to find a place to settle in for the night.
Just then, my ears perked up at the smell. A loud howling suddenly sounded, setting me apart. My heart was drumming so loudly but all I had was one thing in my mind. We are not alone now. I met Owen’s eyes who also noticed that presence.
No..We are being followed. Surrounded even.
“Get your fangs ready,” Owen whispered to me, shifting into his wolf, and as soon as he said that, a big sandy wolf attacked him from the right. Owen transformed swiftly and fought back, signaling me to run as he wanted to distract them but there were five more of them.
I sighed, Alpha Magnus was right. We only crossed a city and I’m being hunted by the enemies now. How cruel.
Just then, the bushes opened and I heard a very familiar voice, “Stop fighting guys….Missed me, Kamilah?”
Same blonde hair in a neat style and cerulean eyes that captivated my soul, but what caught my attention was his very familiar earthy scent of him.
Darian. From the Shadow pack. From my past pack.
And my ex-love.
The air suddenly left my lungs and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. My walls seemed to crumble down, suffocating me. With each smell, memories suddenly flashed back into me, putting me in turmoil.
Owen beside me who was fighting suddenly stopped and went to my side to protect me. “Stay behind me.”
I shook my head, “No, I can handle this.”
“So what they said was true,” Darian said, approaching me. Each step he took stirred me up, and as soon as he was in front of me, he grabbed my chin and made me look into his eyes, his eyes gazing at me as if he couldn’t believe it, “You really are alive.”
I gritted my teeth, glaring at him, “Yeah, so what?”
I can’t believe how he looks exactly the same since I last saw him but his aura exudes nothing but arrogance. Is this the downside of being an Alpha?
He’s so much different now. I don’t even feel that he’s the same person I once fell in love with.
I guess time really changes creatures. Not just for humans.
“Why are you here instead of being with your mate?” I asked, trying to change the topic.
He tilted his head to the side, his eyebrows raised, “My mate? Oh, right, your best friend…Well, keep this a secret but Valentina doesn’t know I am meeting you now…she’s not aware that you’re even alive…” He said, “I think she would be delighted if she see you herself now.”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes now as I feign courage and stood my ground confidently, and pushed his hand away from my chin, “Yeah, and you won’t get to return to her for attacking me like this.”
He blew a whistle and clenched his chest as if hurt from what I said, “Ouch, so you really can fight now huh? I thought you can’t survive without me? What did Alpha Magnus do to make you this sassy?”
I shrugged, “I don’t know, but fun fact, he’s much stronger than you,”
The five of his men behind him who were watching us cheered for me and Owen beside me looked confused but still stood on alert.
He ignored that comment and caressed my cheek, “You’ve become so beautiful now, I missed you, did you miss me? Want to return back to my pack and become my concubine?”
