Gusev's POV
GUSEV’S POV
I’m dead but I’m still alive.
I watched the humans start from scratch, building their community, their civilizations, fighting over land and territories, and ending up destroying their innovation.
They were known as the smartest and most superior creatures among all, but watching them fail as a human amuses me of how ironic the truth is.
Up till now, they don’t know our existence. Werewolves, vampires, and it's best that it’ll stay that way.
Waking up with a monotonous routine, different times, different eras had gone by, but I never met someone who I could call my mate.
I sometimes envy those lowly werewolves. They don’t have the curse of living eternally as they could survive up to 300 years, neither short nor long…
I sometimes envy those lowly werewolves. They don’t have the curse of living eternally as they could survive up to 300 years, neither short nor long…
And each of them had their own destined soulmates. Until us vampires who are living dead, pale, and filthy.
What does it feel like to have someone that is fated with you?
I could only imagine it.
But recently, life has been thrilling for me. I had never tasted blood so finer and so sweet in my entire life of roaming this world. My nose didn’t fail to disappoint me. With what I smelled, it was even better when I tasted Kamilah’s blood.
I never felt alive like this, even though I’m already dead.
As soon as she pushed me away back at the hotel, I made my way to my dear best friend's way, but not before slaying some more wolves that are after Kamilah.
They really don’t give up, do they? I had expected that they would somehow stop pursuing her. I mean, I can’t accept that other than me, everyone will get to taste her blood. No, just thinking of it makes my stomach churn.
As I was on the road, I breathed the fresh air. I looked at the sun, enjoying it.
Despite the human belief that we hate the sun, it was partly true. We hated it before, but the same with humans, we also adapted to it and learned to coexist.
And no, we don’t sleep in coffins. Humans really make us so disgusting. I prefer my soft mattress and comfy bed to lay on, thank you very much. Although we don’t sleep, it’s good to pretend that we do.
And about blood, sure, we love it. We fend on people and have to drink it to survive, even though it's against our will.
Those in the higher-ups had invented a juice box for us to drink in case of emergency. We could also drink animal blood.
Our higher-ups also limited us in killing humans to only 1 per year, if ever we are sick of animals’ blood. So for the whole year, we are always hungry. Personally, though, I didn't like killing innocent people so I prey on rapists, serial killers, and some other bunch of worst people, as disgusting as it may sound.
Life has been cruel, but this is how we survived and existed to this day. The other vampires had given up to this rule though as they wreaked havoc around some areas, slaying children and women.
I find that unjust and would never do that to children and women that I even kill my kind who does that, and deliver them to the high ups. The higher-ups even reward me for that, thank goodness.
It’s a bit hotter now compared to before since the humans’ activities, damaging the planet. I could slowly watch the world being destroyed and the sun getting hotter each day.
I want to intervene and just slay them all…I always wondered about that.
They are the ones who label us as “monsters'’ when in fact it's them who are more dangerous to the world. Ther innovations kept on growing and damaging the environment.
I marched in front of Alpha Magnus’s study but didn’t find him there. I spotted Dimitri, his beta, leaving a pile of papers on his table.
“Where’s your alpha?” I asked.
“He’s resting for now.” He answered and I raised my eyebrows.
“Resting? That workaholic perfectionist never rests.” I said. Hmm, I smell something fishy in here. Alpha Magnus is acting weird. He must be so down that his mate, Kamilah, left him, right in front of his face.
I instantly dashed to his room and arrived in less than a minute.
“Hi. best friend!” I greeted cheerily, knocking on the door. When he didn’t reply, like he always does, I opened his door and found him lying on his bed, facing the ceiling and looking like he’s been rethinking his life decisions over and over.
He didn’t even stand up or replied haughtily at my arrival. And that’s when I knew how serious this situation was.
The famous Alpha Magnus, heartbreaker of the women, soul destroyer for the men, and powerful in the whole area, is here on his bed, depressed.
I watched there, standing for a minute, and waited for him to bulge. He looked lifeless and dead, far more lifeless than my pale skin was. But he didn’t even move an inch so I cleared my throat, “I tasted her blood. She smelled amazing.”
Quicker than the air, I felt his hands grabbing my neck, his dead eyes now blazing with so much hatred, “You do not deserve to breathe the same air as her. Back off, Gusev.”
I chuckled, “So that's what it took for you to notice me. I was watching you there the whole time.”
He loosened his grip on me, to calm down.
I sat on his bed and patted the spot beside me, “I never comforted anyone before so seeing my best friend now depressed, I don’t know what to do.”
He sighed, “If you’re here to mock me, just leave.”
I clicked my tongue disappointedly, “Why does everyone want me to leave? I just wanted to comfort you.”
“Your presence here is not helping. I need to think.”
“Why sulk here when you could go to her and see her? Even from afar?” I casually suggested and he turned to me.
“I could…do that to her?”
I nodded, “Yeah, of course, you could.”
He shook his head, “No, you know Kamilah. She’s not that simple.”
I sighed, “Better do that than sulk around and pity on yourself. I don’t know about you werewolf guys and your mate thingy but if your bond is that strong, you need to stay close to her right?”
What I said seemed to give light to his face. I patted myself on the back for doing a great job.
“You haven’t even imprinted on her. Why are you so laid back just because she’s your mate? She might find another one,” I said intentionally, just to trigger him.
“Shut up, Gusev.”
I hummed a tune, “Let’s see. I tasted her sweet blood. I can understand how attached you are to her. I mean, if I were you, I don’t want to lose her.”
I could see the killing intent in his dark orbs and the gold rings turned red. Thank goodness that I was quick on my feet and dodged his attack as I don’t think I would have left his room alive. I instantly ran away, leaving him to his thoughts.
“I’ll kill you, Gusev!” I heard him yelling so loud, growling, and howling.
I sighed, so much for being the fairy godmother for those two. One day, he would understand that I’m doing him a favor.
