Chapter 16 Emily's Gift
Luther POV
I hold my precious Laura. I do not want to let her go. What if the tribe asked her to choose between me and her crown? The thought of it breaks me. I know I was reluctant to answer her when she asked me if I would choose her over the pack, but the truth is I would always pick her. I love my fairy queen. I cannot live without her. I know this more now than ever.
Laura pulls back from me. "What is it, Luther?" Laura asks me.
"I was thinking that you are everything to me," I answer her. She smiles at me.
"You are everything to me, too, Alpha," she says.
Ando knocks on the door. "Your brothers are here, and the council is on the move," Ando says.
"Make sure the council is followed and send my brothers in here," I say to Ando.
"Yes, Alpha," Ando says.
I kiss Laura softly on the lip just as the door swings open with my two idiot brothers coming into the house.
"Damn, get a room," Silas growls.
" Where the hell have you two been? Did you two not know that all hell has broken loose?" I growl at both of them.
"That was what Argo was telling us when he brought us over. The faires were killed, and the tribe lands, and that are mother went off the rails," Silas says.
A woman comes into the cabin with Drake. She stands with him, holding his hand. "I brought Emily with me; I hope that is okay," Drake says.
"It is fine," Laura says. Laura goes straight to her and hugs her. The young woman bows to Laura.
"My queen," she says.
"WHAT!" Silas and Drake say in unison.
"She is the queen of the fairies," Emily says.
"How did you know? We have not told you guys anything yet?" Luther asks.
"She is a witch. She has an amazing gift," Drake says.
"Why didn't she haul you back here when everything was happening?" Luther asks.
Drake turns red in the face. "We were a little busy," Drake says.
"OH!" Laura says.
"We are here now, and I can help," Emily says, walking toward Laura.
"How?" Laura asks.
"I can help you find Selene for starters, and your dad too," Emily says.
"That would be great, and we need to talk to her," I say.
" Your older brother too. He is with her," Emily says.
"Wait! I am the oldest of us," Luther says.
Emily shakes her head. "No, the hybrid, George. He is with her," Emily says.
"I thought he was dead," Laura questions Emily.
"No, you do not know much about your tribe history, do you?" Emily asks Laura.
" I never knew about the involvement of wolves until a few hours ago," Laura says.
"Well, let me fill you in on a little secret of the wolves and fairies," Emily says.
Emily and Laura walk into the kitchen. I follow them as they sit down at the table. "Selene had a child, but she was in a bad way, and she had just met the Alpha of this pack. Trip took the child and left the fairies to raise him. Selene would go see him from time to time, but eventually, she stopped when Luther was born," Emily says.
I stand behind Laura. How does she know all of this, but we do not, and why did the council not tell us.
"Well, at least that is the rumor," Emily adds to her story.
"So you are not sure if it is true or not?" I ask her.
Emily shifts in her seat. "I see things, Luther. I know it is true. I know what my mother told me about Selene and the fairies. I know all of this is crazy, but it is true. Selene wants revenge," Emily says.
"Revenge for what?" I ask.
"For losing her child, for losing her love, just because she wants it, I really do not know, but what I do know is she is angry," Emily says.
Laura looks at me. Her mind is going a thousand places. "If she is so angry, why did she push Luther and me to get married?" Laura asks.
"I can tell you this, and I know that she was hunting a rouge to do some dirty work for her before the ceremony. I bet she thought you would reject him, and then he would help her," Emily says.
"But you do not know any of this for sure?" I ask her.
Emily stands from the table. "Listen. I did not come here to cause any more drama or heartache. I came because I can help you find Selene, and I can help you get some closure. You can ask her all these questions yourself," Emily says.
Emily leaves the table. She leaves Laura and me alone to talk. I look at Laura, who is distraught and angry. "What is going through your brain?" I ask her as I reach for her hand.
"My parents are dead because the council would not allow two people who loved each other to be together. My parents are dead because of some stupid law the council put together. My parents are dead!" Laura cries.
"I am sorry my mother did all of this," I say to her.
"Luther, I am glad your mother and father ended up together, and I am happy you are in my life. I cannot see being with anyone else. But what the council did was wrong. That baby that was just discarded like trash by your mother. Why didn't your father just raise him? Maybe that would have made her happy," Laura asks.
"Because the Alpha has to marry a virgin. There can only be children between the luna and Alpha. She cannot bring any children into the pack," I answer her.
"OH! Well, so this pack is equally to blame for what is going on here," Laura says.
Laura gets up from the table. "Where are you going?" I ask her. She walks into the back of the cabin. I follow her.
Laura goes into a bedroom to lie down. "I can lay with you," I say to her.
"I am afraid," she says.
"There is no reason for you to be afraid," I say to her.
"Yes, there is, Luther," she answers me.
"Why?" I ask her.
"Emily told me something when we were walking into the kitchen," Laura says.
"What?" I ask her.
"She told me that...." Laura begins.
A loud crash at the front door distracts me. I run to the front of the house. Ando is running into the front door. "The council has been murdered!" Ando growls.
"By who?" I ask.
"Your mother," Emily chimes into the conversation.
Ando looks at Emily. " It was Selene and a hybrid," Ando says.
"They are coming for you and Laura," Emily says.
"Laura!" I scream!
I run to the back of the cabin to get Laura. I open the door of the room she was lying down in, but she is gone.
"LAURA!" I scream!
