Chloe Blake Kelley
Chloe Blake Kelly Pov
We get off the train in Wolf Creek, and it is not much to look at; at first glance, it almost looks like a boring town. Where will I find a job? The sun is beaming down on us, and it is hot. There is just a very mild wind blowing.
"You did not tell me your name," Samantha says as we walk down the street toward some cars. There is a car with several large men. All of them have long hair and beards. They seem to be waiting for her.
"It is Chloe, but most people call me Blake. My mother and I both were named Chloe, so everyone calls me Blake after my grandmother," I say.
Samantha stops for a moment and just stares at me. "My mother's name was Cleopatra, but everyone called her Chloe. I love that name," Samantha says. I wonder how long her mother has been gone. The wound seems fresh. She looks so young to be without a mother, just like me. Losing my mother was hard.
"I lost my mother a few years ago. I have not seen my father in two years. Since I left home, he was a real asshole. He liked to knock me around," I say softly.
I notice the men that traveled with us are staying close to us. Samantha's father must be very important. "What exactly does your father do?" I ask her looking around at the men.
"It will be easier to explain when we get to my house," Samantha says.
Here I go again, getting into a car with a stranger. I must be insane, but something about her is different. Everything about her is genuine, and she seems to care about my wellbeing.
"Okay, I am trusting you. I have had some really bad luck over the last few days, and I need a fresh start," I say.
Samantha stops. "If you are scared, I will get you a hotel in town. Whatever will make you comfortable. Blake, you need help, and I am willing to help you," Samantha says.
I look at the men waiting by the car and back to the men following us. Her father and Samantha are not bad. They have to be important people to have all these men looking out for her. "You are not in the mafia or something like that, are you?" I ask.
Samantha laughs. "No, my father is an important man, and if you are relocating here, then you will need his help to get a job and get established," Samantha says.
"Okay, let us go," I say.
I get into the backseat of the car with Samantha. The driver looks back at us. "Did you have a good trip, Samantha?" He asks.
"Yes, Henry, it was wonderful. Is my dad at home?" Samantha asks.
"Yes, he is expecting you," Henry says.
Henry pulls out of the train station and starts driving. I look around at Wolf Creek as we go through the small town. It is unreal how small it is. The driver makes a right turn, and we start going toward a wooded area. My heart begins to sink, and I become scared.
"We live on the outskirts of town," Samantha says, realizing I am getting nervous about the situation. I do not understand why she is so eager to help me. She does not know me. I am just some dumb woman on a train trying to run away from my past. Maybe she understands that.
We finally pull into an enormous cabin. A man comes out to greet us. He is tall, has long dark hair, and shockingly piercing blue eyes. He looks to be in his forties. He is gorgeous.
Samatha jumps out of the car and runs for him. "Father!" She screams as she runs for his embrace. It must be wonderful to have a father that loves you and that you love back.
I get out of the car slowly with my backpack. The man looks at me as I walk slowly to meet him. "This is Blake, and she needs our help," Samantha says.
He looks down at me. "Well, then she is a welcomed guest," He says with a sweet smile.
"Blake, this is my father, Solomon," she introduces him to me. He reaches out and touches my hand.
"Alpha Solomon, do you need anything else from me?" I hear a small voice ask Solomon coming out of the house. Why did she call him Alpha? Strange. Please do not be strange, people.
He turns to the woman. "No, Jan. You can go home for the day," he says.
"Thank you, Alpha. I will see you in the morning," Jan says as she walks past me to leave for the day.
"Come in, and there is much we need to talk about, Blake," Solomon says.
I follow Samatha and Solomon into the house. "Come on, I will show you the guest room, and then we can go into my dad's office so he can talk to you," Samantha says.
She walks me back to the back of the house to a bedroom. "My room is across the hall. We will share a large bathroom. Is this okay?" She asks.
The room is extensive, with a king-sized bed. I walk into it and set down my backpack. I cannot believe this. It is too good to be true. "This is perfect," I say.
"When we go in for my father to explain everything to you, please do not freak out. I want to help you," Samantha says.
I find her words comforting and scary at the same time. She takes my hand and smiles as we walk back to the front of the house to Solomon's office. She knocks on the door, and we wait a moment.
"Come in," Solomon says.
We go into the office, and both sit down. Solomon seems to be trying to figure out what to say to me exactly. "The ticket lady at the train station told me you were coming. She said you were in trouble with vampires," Solomon says.
"What are you talking about?" I ask him.
"Robert, the man chasing you, he is a vampire," Solomon says.
I shake my head. "There is no such thing as vampires," I say.
"Yes, there is and wolves and many other creatures," Solomon says.
I sit in the chair for a moment, thinking. I feel like my head is going to explode. Alpha, she called him Alpha. I look at Samantha and then at Solomon. "Alpha, you are wolves, like in a book, or a fairy tale or some movie. This is real?" I ask in complete shock.
I grab the arm of the chair I am sitting in and grab it hard. I look down, and my knuckles are turning white. I do not think I can breathe. I am going to wake up in my room, and all of this will be a dream. I suddenly begin to slump in the chair. I am dizzy, and the room is spinning.
"Dad, I think she is fainting," Blake says. I feel her and her father over me. Both of them are looking at me. I feel like I am looking into a coke bottle or through glass or something because they are blurry and moving around fast.
I feel someone pick me up and carry me. "Look at her neck," Solomon says.
I feel someone touch my neck as I am placed on something soft; my eyes are rolling around in my head as someone inspects the wound where Robert bit me. If he is a vampire and he bit me, will I become a vampire? No, this cannot be happening to me. I want to scream, but I suddenly feel sleepy. I look up to see Samantha and Solomon talking, but the voices are almost mute. I close my eyes and let myself drift away.
