Chapter 88

Clair –

There is a war coming, I can feel it with all the rogues invading our land, traitors in our midst, she-wolves being kidnapped. I have personally decided to call the wedding off one more time. I cannot be having festivities and a honeymoon, while my kingdom is suffering.

Both Xander’s mother and my mother are going to hate this, they were very competitive seeing which one could do more for the wedding.

As soon as I walk into my office, I immediately notice that something is not quite right. I turn on the lights inside the office, taking a deep breath and sniffing the air in the room. As far as the scents are concerned, they are not rogue, but there may be more than one wolf in this area. As I walk through the office on tiptoe, I pull out my knife and take a cautious look around me.

The sight of the office being ransacked caught my attention as I looked around. There are some security cameras that look as if they have been shattered by a baseball bat. Hard drives were missing, and computers were disassembled and taken apart. My eyes are drawn to the server room, and I open the door as I approach it.

"Xander tell the men to come to my office right away. We have a problem." Next thing I know, I feel pain in the back of my head, as if someone has hit me with a baseball bat. It was as though I was being swallowed by darkness, and I could feel myself crashing to the ground.

Xander –

I felt a crashing pain in my skull It has to be the mate bond. Wolves do not get headaches or illness, and we do not get sick. As of right now, however, I am barely able to keep myself from passing out. After Clair tried to reach out to me, the pain set in. When I realized that my mate had been injured by someone and she was in pain, my heart began to pound. There are no longer any betas available for me. As my lieutenant is under house guard, he leaves me as the captain of the guard to take care of matters.

"Raymond!" I exclaimed. You need to get over to the security center as soon as possible! I'm afraid your future Queen is in a lot of trouble!” I yelled into my mind link. Then I shifted into my wolf form and ran towards the security center as fast as I could. It is my prayer that my mate will be ok, and I am begging the moon goddess for her safety. Let her be okay, please, please let her be okay.

I mind-link the doctor just in case, Clair is not okay. I ask the doctor to hurry over to the security building.

My wolf is in panic mode and is ready to rip other wolves apart. Caliginous wants justice, and he will get it if our mate is not alright. I shift into my human form when I get to the Security center, not caring at all that I don’t have any clothes on.

Walking into the security center, I found myself in a state of shock as I looked around at the control rooms. What had happened here? Growling I decided I would think about what chaos happened here later, right now I needed to find my mate. A few minutes later, I asked the captain if he had seen my mate yet. He looked sad and pointed in the direction of the server room with a sad expression on his face.

It was at that point that I turned and started running as fast as I could. The blood was all over Clair's body and there was still blood dripping from her head. I asked someone to go and get some clean towels, and I asked them to hurry up.

As I put my hand on the wound and applied pressure to it, I tried to stop the bleeding as best as I could. My next step was to check her pulse, to make sure she was still alive, and I had to make sure she was breathing. Even though Clair's pulse was weak, she was still alive.

Taking the clean towel, I applied pressure with the towel to soak up the blood seeping from the back of Clair’s head.

“Where was the doctor?!!! I need the doctor NOW!!!” I roared out at everyone and no one in particular.

There is a sense of impatience in my body; seconds seem like hours to me. I can’t wait any longer. I lift Clair up into my arms cradling her in my arms while holding the towel on the back of her head.

In the middle of holding Clair, I stand up and run outside to see an ambulance pull up. As I ran up to them, they tried to take her away from me. I shake my head and quickly jump into the ambulance's back compartment, putting her in the bed and strapping her in place. This will ensure that she won't fall out of the ambulance. The doctor explains to me that I need to get to the side so that she can examine Clair and help her when she needs it. As my wolf was freaking out, I reluctantly agreed to do as the doctor asked. It was hard for me to step back from Clair as my wolf was freaking out.

The doctor was able to stop the bleeding on the back of my mates head. The doctor also applied some stitches to the area where the bleeding had started on the back of the head. During the procedure, I saw the doctor administering a shot to her. It is my understanding that this is a pain medication. It is with great anxiety that I watch my mates pain while I pray to the Moon Goddess that she will not take Clair from me.

The EMT's rushed Clair to her private hospital room as soon as we arrived at the pack hospital. As a result of the fact that she has lost a lot of blood, they hook her up to IVs and give her blood through them.

I have a bed sent in so I can lay next to my mate. I need to hold her and feel her next to me. Clair looks so pale.
