Chapter 16 YNOT

The clubhouse was different at night. It had come to life like the waitress assured Sobrina it would. There were different colors of light shining from different direction. It was bursting with people very expensively dressed, doing all kinds of things. Some were seated around the round tables on the sit-out where Sobrina had earlier had lunch. There were people talking and laughing, or drinking, or eating different kinds of food. There was gentle music coming from hidden speakers she hadn't notice earlier in the day.

The attendees were a mixture of different races, the men were mostly white - Chinese, Lebanese, Americans, Germans among others. While the ladies were black Africans. Tall, slim, pretty and young as if they had been hand picked, standing in groups of two or more, discussing.

Sobrina discovered there was an entrance into the building, it turned out the clubhouse wasn't just made up of only the sit-out.

Amazed, Sobrina walked into the building through the connecting door. Inside, she stood and waited for her eyes to adjust to the change. The music was mildly louder in the long rectangular room she found herself, there were beautiful framed pictures hanging on the walls, few people were sitting on tall chairs at the counter of a side bar by her right, drinking. Apart from the tall chairs surrounding the counter of the bar, there were no other chairs in the room. There was a glass connecting door by the bar leading into two other demarcated rooms. Through the glass wall of the bar, she could see sofas surrounding low tables lined by the stone walls within, the rooms were also dimly lit and beautifully decorated.

By her left, a female caged stripper slowly swung round a sliver pole in rhythm to the gentle music coming from the DJ's booth, attached to the wall by the entrance. The stripper stopped, then began to climb the pole. She began to slide slowly downwards as soon as she got to the top. She was naked except for the tiny pant around her waist, the bra around her breast and the long heels on her feet.

The room was also dimly lit, the only rays of light came from the few color changing club lights placed on strategic places within the room and from the bar by the right.

At the end of the room was another doorless entrance, leading to the games room. The room was horizontal and brightly lit. There were more people here, a mixture of white men and black ladies. Some playing the available games, others seated on long chairs by the bar built far behind at a corner, drinking as they waited their turn.

Among the available games where few casino slot machines placed on the walls, and three large snooker tables demarcated by few tall permanent wooden umbrella tables, surrounded with tall wooden chairs. Sobrina sat on one, she was generally ignored by both the ladies and the men, she was dressed bellow standard.

Sobrina felt out of place, but she was pleased. It was the first time in her life she was seeing white people this close, same as a snooker table and a live stripper. They were things she only saw in the movies.

She was having a good time watching the players on the snooker table, the club was really the best on the Island.

Sobrina was able to meet a girl before the night was over. She explained her predicament to the lady, and she offered to take her to the hotel where she stays at Idu, in the morning. They were only two in her room, and rent was expensive, a third person would reduce the burden.

They exchanged contact and the lady went about her business, as the club began to gradually fill with people.
