Chapter 57 THE STARING
Pastor Melvin continued to behave like an imbecile. He would stand for hours staring incessantly at Sobrina in church, shameless in the midst of everyone. He behaved like he had lost his mind.
Sobrina had no idea that Pastor Melvin was now fully initiated into the cult that Gracedome actually was.
They collectively called themselves 'men in Christ', it didn't matter if they were females or males.
They were the underside of Gracedome, and was mostly dominated by male members, who were already members of circular conflicting cults - such as Vikings or BlackAxe, and a few circular conflicting cult ladies - such as Viqueens or BlackBra. People who had become prominent members in Gracedome, like the ones Kate had met.
Pastor Melvin was actually staring at Sobrina in hate. He had been heartbroken and disgraced. Yes, and now he desired revenge, and Pastor Davies, who was the leader of the unifying cult - Gracedome - would help him get it.
Pastor Davies studied veterinary medicine in the University of Science. Sobrina had learned to trust him as she was taught to do. She kept no secrets from him. She took permission for any and all endeavors, it was called being accountable.
For every look he took, Pastor Melvin swore silently he would find a way to make Sobrina pay.
He regretted keeping their relationship platonic. He didn't even get to sleep with her, after many years of spending his money on her. After he had literally raised the rejected child she had been. And after all they had been through together.
Sobrina went for midweek evening service one day, dressed in mini skirt on a black blouse. She got lost praying and unconsciously bent a bit. She suddenly opened her eyes a little, and saw Pastor Melvin behind her. He was bending lower, trying to see beneath her mini skirt.
The sight was appalling, and Sobrina decided to watch how she dressed from then on.
Sobrina took pity on him, she thought he was just heartbroken. She began to think of ways to help him get over her, and gradually started speaking to him, little by little.
She had gotten so much into the 'madam' mode, that she had began to be lazy. She had also added a little weight.
She decided she needed a roommate - a young girl - who would run errands for her, while she took care of her in return.
She spoke to Pastor Melvin about it, and he agreed to send her someone.
He saw an opportunity, and arranged with the female members of the cult. They found a lady, who said she was stranded, and newly admitted into the University for a masters program.
The lady was probably older than Sobrina. She was to help Pastor Melvin achieve his goal of revenge.
She wasn't what Sobrina wanted, but she couldn't send her away.
The lady spied on Sobrina, and reported back to Pastor Melvin.
Sobrina's wedding was coming up as Pastor Melvin had feared. Her wedding would mean she was permanently married. All necessary documents would be signed on the wedding day.
He had received the news from his mole at Sobrina's place, and confirmed it with Pastor Davies who Sobrina accounted to.
He got more and more uncomfortable. He wouldn't sit down in church, which was the only place he saw her. He would pace up and down, shamelessly staring at her.
Sobrina did her best in trying not to notice. He began to call her attention stupidly in front of everyone. He would call to her and point her to a chair she didn't need, or make a useless sign.
Sobrina should have sensed trouble, and quietly left the church. But she solidly believed in the past, she thought it was all an honest display of hurt, which anyone would recover from, with time.
Sobrina got more serious with serving the Lord, while changing beautifully before Pastor Melvin very presence in Gracedome.
She went to clinic at a nearby hospital one early morning, as was the custom for positive people. And behold, Pastor Melvin had woken up early, bathed, dressed, and was seated at a corner at the clinic.
He intended to visit Sobrina at her lowest state, he had investigated and found out she attended clinic at that hospital.
Sobrina walked over.
"Ah, good morning Pastor Melvin. What a great surprise", she said, while extending her right hand for a handshake.
"Good morning Sobrina",
"How come you're here?", Sobrina questioned.
"We have a fieldwork in my department this semester, that involves visiting hospitals. So I'm here with some of my course mates", he explained.
"Where are they?"
"They should be busy around the hospital", he responded. His explanation wasn't too difficult for Sobrina to understand, he was studying Guidance and Counseling. Counselors were a necessity in hospitals, and especially in Sobrina's area of health.
She was suddenly called up to submit her details to a nurse and their conversation was over. He was gone by the time Sobrina returned.
Sobrina's heart melted. It was a big deal that he would come to such a place, and around that time in the morning, to see her. Not knowing that he knew exactly what to do to hit her sensitive button. She wept bitterly, sitting at one corner of the room. She regretted that she was already married, and decided that they needed to talk extensively.
She hoped to say her goodbyes amicably.
