Chapter 69 CRAZY
The next morning, Sobrina opened up to the young lady who had accommodated her, and pleaded to move in with her, for the remainder of the few weeks of her academics. She was very supportive and agreed at once.
Sobrina went to her place and speedily gathered up her clothes and left.
She was carrying three luggage - two big boxes and a large plastic bag. But she ran as fast as her legs could carry her, dragging the boxes behind her on their wheels, she didn't even stop when there tires broke.
On her way out of the area, she met a boy who was a well dedicated member of WUCC.
"Hi", he greeted, but Sobrina ignored him thinking he could have been sent to monitor her movement.
"Good afternoon Sobrina", he greeted insistently. Sobrina speedily walked past him and continued on her way.
When she got to the main road, she stopped a motorcyclist who carried her and her luggage to the University's back gate, where she was supposed to enter a shuttle into the campus. She had only one thousand with her and the motorcyclist refused to accept it, for lack of lower denominations with which to balance her. The motorcyclist started shouting at her, she ignored him, and instead dragged her luggage into the University compound where she felt a bit safer - no cult activity was permitted within the University environment, any offender was to face grave consequences.
"Follow me to the shuttle stand, I'll change the money and pay you", she pleaded with the motorcyclist from behind the gate. He seemed very disappointed about something. Sobrina began to wonder if he had wanted her to start fighting with him, so he could suddenly injure her fatally and escape on his motorcycle. She was so afraid.
The motorcyclist followed her to the shuttle stand, and they began to look for how to change the money.
"This is bullshit", one of the shuttle drivers quietly exclaimed as Sobrina was approaching. He was looking very disappointed at Sobrina and her luggage.
"This is a huge insult", another one responded.
"How could this have happened?", another one questioned. The shuttle drivers refused to speak to her.
"Where are you going to?", one of the drivers later questioned Sobrina.
"To the campus", she wisely responded.
"Where exactly in the campus",
"To a hostel",
"Which hostel in particular?",
"I will show the driver", she responded, trying very hard to avoid quarreling. Was her destination not obvious enough with all the luggage she was carrying? Were students returning to school around this period in the year? Was she a stranger? They were trying to hide their displeasure at the sight of her and her luggage.
None of them agreed to carry her, they all said they didn't have lower denominations with which to change the one thousand. Sobrina pretended very hard as if she wasn't noticing their discomfort.
One of the drivers finally decided to carry her, but only if she could change the money, and pay him an exorbitant fee.
Sobrina agreed to pay. She went to a nearby provision shop and bought something she didn't need, paid the motorcyclist and her luggage was finally loaded into the trunk of the small car.
As soon as she entered the shuttle, she looked outside the window. The boy she'd previously encountered on her way out of her vicinity was standing by the door of the small car, looking very frustrated. He was now differently dressed, looking like he was out of breath, and was constantly bending low to knot his shoe laces.
Sobrina was amazed and thanked God the small car was filled.
Even the other passengers began to look suspicious to Sobrina, she was very alert.
When she arrived at the hostel, she noticed that a man holding a Crosscut Hand Saw was standing at the entrance to the hostel. He was looking directly at her. She summoned every courage, and began to carry her luggage one after the other to the entrance of the hostel.
The man disappeared into the large hostel building before Sobrina could get close enough to take a good look at his face. Only the fact that there were students moving around in the building, kept Sobrina from running away.
She began to relax a little, arguing with her mind that the man couldn't harm her at such a busy place.
One of the lady members of the church who had been among the ones who had been standing at the entrance of the hostel after Sobrina's arrival, last night, ran up to her.
"Ma, are you just coming?", she questioned.
"Yes", Sobrina responded, ignoring the stupidity in the question.
"You must be tired... Let me help you",
"Alright", Sobrina agreed.
The lady carried one of Sobrina's luggage into the hostel and dropped it by the entrance of her own room. Sobrina had not told her where to take them to, and quietly decided to let the lady take the leading. She was tired and followed the lady into her room, deciding to rest a little there, and continue later to her friends room, up stairs.
"Is she the one?", one of the lady's roommates questioned.
The lady pretended she didn't hear the question, but Sobrina noticed everything. She understood she'd been marked. The kitchen knife on the lady's table began to look too much like a weapon. She imagined being suddenly stabbed to death with it. She stood up and single handedly carried her luggage outside the room, without explanation.
Now, she finally decided she couldn't stay here, and she took to her heels.
She retrieved only her important documents from her luggage and abandoned them on the corridor of the hostel. She ran out of the building and entered a shuttle heading towards the main entrance of the campus, panting.
There was only one place she could hide - Pastor Melvin's house.
Days had passed since the swatting, Pastor Melvin never told her what had gone wrong, neither did he explain himself, or formally breakup with her. Therefore Sobrina made many excuses - as he had taught her over the years to do - for his disturbing actions. She drew energy from the presence of the little things he'd given her, and continued to love him; even though she didn't understand all that was going on. She decided he had protected her in the past, and since they were getting married soon, as she had thought he said, he would more than protect her now.
She was physically shivering in fear when she arrived at his door. She found his cousin at his place. The young lady allowed her to rest as much as she could, until Pastor Melvin returned from work later that night, and to her greatest surprise, he dramatically sent her away.
But she had spent hours at his place, and had considerably relaxed. She decided he was probably trying to prevent them from falling into sin - premarital sex - again. She was steady enough to return to the hostel, and subsequently succeeded in moving in to her friend's room. Sobrina also finally stopped using Marijuana.
It happened that the members of Osano's circular cult had expected to hear about the news of her demise, but didn't. Which was why they were shocked to see her alive. The fact that she was carrying her luggage into the school's environment, also meant that she'd escaped punishment.
The lady member, who was also a member of the underside of the church, had told everyone - as they was instructed to do - of her roommates about the lady in her church living with AIDS. She'd volunteered to help Sobrina, only to show her roommates exactly who she was. Gradually, almost every student of the University who knew Sobrina, also knew about her health. Strange students pointed at her regularly, while whispering among themselves. But the young lady who had taken her in didn't care. She instead pretended as if she didn't know, and helped Sobrina's emotional recovery tremendously.
Pastor Melvin on the other hand had obediently returned to Pastor Miraya, and chosen to join hands in seeing to Sobrina's utter destruction, both as his revenge and to prove his loyalty to the underside.
