Dreaded moment of Xavier’s life
“It has been said, 'time heals all wounds'. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone.” -Rose Kennedy

The wind blew my hair in a ruffled mess as I stepped out of my car. The weather was amazingly pleasant today, not too warm to cause me to sweat, not too cold to make me shiver. But, when my eyes landed on the car stopped in front of mine, more specifically the redhead, my mood immediately turned sullen.
"Thanks, Kat, you're my lifesaver babe, I love you." She said to the person behind the steering wheel, looking towards her in a hurry.
I wondered how someone being the bratty ungrateful had learned to thank someone. A sarcastic smile appeared on my face as I walked towards the building.
Evelyn was rushing inside the building at full speed, this made me remember the other night when she got sick after eating those goddamn almonds when I was seconds away from exploring her sexy mouth of hers despite every nerve in my body telling me to kiss her, I didn't. All thanks to her friend, who got there at the right time and saved me a hell lot of frustration for me.
Lagging behind her, I watched her long hair flowing in the wind. When I realized that I had been staring at her back for too long, I increased my speed, walking by her into the elevator.
As she followed me into the elevator, her feet suddenly slipped, stumbling forward. I didn't have time to think and next thing I knew, moving forward I prevented her fall and we both ended up stumbling back into the elevator wall, with my arms wrapped around her waist just like last night.
The way she was hugging me last night, just for a moment, something twisted inside my heart when I saw her in that condition, I ran to get those freaking meds for her. But I reminded myself of what she did last time.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry." She apologized, retreating a few steps until she was standing on the other side of the elevator.
"Learn how to walk, Miss Williams. But as far as I remembered, you learned to walk over me every time." I spat, burning in anger but what I didn't want to accept was the anger directed towards my own self for feeling something for her, even for a single minute second.
I saw tears gathering in her eyes as she just stood there dumbfounded, trying to find an appropriate answer. "I… Uh... Thank you for the other night." Way too smart to change the topic.
"Whatever, I'd have done that for anyone," I said, opening the file in my hand, and bringing it in front of my eyes so that I could ignore her peacefully.
Finally, when the elevator stopped at our floor, she waited for me to leave first. Shaking my head, I exited the elevator and made my way toward the office.
By lunchtime, I was done with tons of meetings and most of my work for the day. So, I decided to take a break for an hour. For once, the day was peaceful for me as Rose… no, no, no, Not Rose… Miss Williams, yes, as Miss Williams was busy with the finance department.
While I was arranging the files, I heard a knock on the door. "Come in," I said and watched Savannah enter through the door.
"How's my favorite man on the face of this loveliest earth doing today?" She waved at me and flicked her black, wavy hair in a dramatic way but because of its short length, she looked rather funny.
"He's doing absolutely fine, Miss Summers." I teased her as she snickered at me and sat down on the seat in front of me.
Always the drama queen, My best friend from all times, Savannah Summers. The worst possible name in history as she quotes it.
"Your dad told me your whereabouts, Xavier Knight." She threw daggers at me with her black eyes filled with mischief. "What are you doing here working in Walker Industries? And you don't receive my calls either."
"I'm here working on a project with Chris Walker. And I was busy working my ass off, so yea I couldn't waste my precious hours listening to your rambling."
"Piss off, Knight. I know you love my pointless rambling."
We were busy pulling each other's leg when someone knocked on the door twice and entered.
Rose's… uh! Dammit! Miss Williams' hair was tied in a messy bun this time. "Chris sent the file for you, Mr. Knight." She said as her eyes shifted between Savannah and me.
"You could've waited for my permission, Miss Williams," I commented in a dry tone and her cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
"Sorry." She muttered in a barely audible voice.
"Well, you should be." This time Savannah beat me in replying to Miss Williams.
"Sorry?" Evelyn asked in an annoyed tone as it was evident in her voice that she never liked Savannah.
"You heard me."
"No, I didn't. Could you please elaborate?"
Now, this was going to turn out to be one of the worst fights they had in the past. I was going to intervene when Savannah stood up and walked towards Evelyn, towering over her as she was a Victoria model, and my little feisty Rose was just five-foot-seven inches.
Woah…. Wait, wait, wait! She is not my little Rose. She is nothing to me.
"You should be sorry for coming back into his life, for ruining his life, your family's life. You know what, you're really a pathetic, stuck-up bitch who could not let anyone live peacefully. You should be sorry for your bloody existence. Leave the fuck-"
"That's enough, Savannah." I gritted my teeth in annoyance and asked her to stop. She looked at me with a hint of disappointment in her eyes.
When I looked at Evelyn, she was already staring at me with those big brown green-specks eyes like she was looking into my soul, shining with tears and I knew she wouldn't spill them, not in front of Savannah at least.
"Miss Williams, you should lea-" I was about to ask her to leave when the most dreaded moment of my life came running towards me, the moment I was preparing for since the day she came into our lives, again.
But I wasn't ready, and I'd never be.
"Daddy!"
