Was Xavier Knight Jealous?
“In a sea of people, my eyes will always search for you.”
As I finally got my monthly check, Kat could not stop bickering about having dinner in her favorite restaurant. And, on top of it she thought, outing would take my mind off of some things.
So, I agreed.
The restaurant felt as if I had entered a dreamland, the happy chatter, the fragrances, the easy and natural colors.
"Sorry ladies for being late." Said Mason and both of our heads jerked to him, throwing daggers at him with our eyes. "What?" He asked innocently, when he took in our angry faces.
"One hour! You're one hour late, gentleman." Said Kat, pressuring the word 'gentleman' a little more as she eyed him warily, crossing her arms in front of her chest to which Mason leaned down to kiss her cheeks.
"We thought you forgot, Mase." I said, giving him my best glaring eyes.
"Forgot about dinner in such a fancy restaurant. Are you kidding me Angel?" Said Mason, winking at me.
Seeing Mason and Kat together always made me happy that she had someone she deserved, someone who loved her with everything he had. But it also made me a little sad because I had someone like him too and I lost him, because of my own stupidity.
"So, what are we eating? Don't tell me, after everything I'm supposed to order those fancy one bite meals." He chuckled in between eyeing the menu and Kat slapped his arm playfully.
"You can order anything, after all we're splitting the bills." I said with a sincere smile.
The smug expression wiped off his face as he exclaimed, "Hell no, Angel. I ain't paying a buck." With that, both Kat and I started laughing at his horrified expression.
After ordering our food, we waited for it while laughing at the stories of Mason pranking his colleagues. He loved travelling a lot, so he opted travel and tourism as his career.
"That was hilarious, Mase." I said between laughs. Soon, the waiter returned with our food. Mason ordered grilled chicken for himself while Kat and I ordered two different kinds of pasta for us.
When the first bit hit my tastebuds, I moaned at the deliciousness. It had been years since I had a nice fancy meal and I ain't planning on having another one in the near future. I've to save my salary so that I can rent an apartment.
We were busy devouring our food when Kat's phone rang. She picked it up and answered it. From what I could hear, there was an important meeting of chief engineers. She was a chief executive engineer of her department.
"Sorry guys, I have to leave." Said Kat, her words followed by an irritated groan.
"It's fine Kat, we know the project is important for you." Said Mason, giving her a reassuring smile.
After she left, Mase and I finished our food in silence and then asked the waiter for the bill. While he was gone, Mason asked me in a really serious tone, "Angel, there is something I need to tell you."
"What?"
"You know I've been travelling around the world to complete my work for the upcoming year, right?"
"Yea… so?"
His hand went into his jeans pocket, and he brought out his mobile, showing me a picture of a ring. The diamond in the ring was just perfect for Kat, not too big as she hated fancy jewelry.
"Oh my god Mase! I knew it! I knew it!" I exclaimed with a huge smile on my face.
Putting his phone back in his pocket, leaning forward, he whispered, "I'm preparing to propose to her on our anniversary."
"That would be amazing! Marvelous! I'm so happy for you both." I expressed and stood up to walk towards him to give him a bear hug, "You've my blessings dear brother." I joked as he ruffled my hair, and I gave him one of my hardest glares.
He kissed the crown of my head in return, saying, "You've to help me, Angel."
"You don't have to ask, Mason." I said, smiling at him after which I sat back while the waiter returned with the bill.

Going out was the idea of my dear friend Savannah and like every other day, she was late for dinner. I won't say I was perfect, but I had some qualities and being punctual was one of them.
With all the tossing and turning, my white shirt probably had a lot of creases by now.
Groaning in annoyance, I texted her and leaned back in my seat, my eyes studying the surroundings of the dining area. While casually looking here and there, something or to be precise someone else caught my eyes. It was Rose, sitting with a tall man, dressed in casual attire. She was nodding to something that her date said. The guy who might be famous or millionaire or whatever leaned forward, whispering something to her which led to a huge smile on her face and stood up to give him a hug.
A kind of bear hug, she used to give me.
My brows furrowed as I tried to ignore them but couldn't. The part of me that felt something when she fell on the floor and despite every nerve in my body screaming at me to help her, I didn't.
When her date kissed her forehead, clenching my jaw, I stood up to leave and right at the moment, I watched Savannah entering through the door.
"Where are you going, Mr. Knight?" She said chirpily but my mood was really sour after watching their public display of affection.
"Here." I motioned with my head towards their seat at the back where she was busy hugging life out of the man.
"Some people never change, Xavi." Said Savannah, her smile evaporating from her face as she took in the scene.
She urged me to sit down and calmly handle the situation without making a scene which I did so, but my gaze was still fixated on them.
Well, I was not going to make a scene here. For that, I'll have to wait for the next working day in the office.
I'll see you soon, Miss Williams.
