Meeting Alex
“Spin me around, knock me off my feet, try to stay dry but you rain on me. You know, you can be my hurricane. Blow me away, pick me off the ground, try to stay dry but I just might drown. Honey, you can be my hurricane.” -Midnight Cinema

It was Saturday afternoon, and I was at the grocery store getting supplies for the week ahead, well this was Kat's turn to get all the groceries and since Mason and Kat weren't getting their 'cozy-alone-time', I was in charge of doing the job today.
While I was filling the cart with buns for the hamburgers and hot dogs, I heard someone sobbing at the other side of the shelves. Moving away from my cart, I walked towards the end of my side to turn towards the side from where I heard someone sobbing.
There I saw a small boy, sitting on the floor while his head was resting on his knees. Moving forward towards him, I crouched in front of him.
"Hey, sweetie?" I said, softly.
The small boy heard me and he instantly wiped his tears harshly before looking at me, and when the small boy looked at me, it felt like someone squeezed my heart and my mouth dropped as recognition dawned on me.
"Alex ..." I gasped at the little boy, while his eyes glistened with tears.
"Hi…." He whispered, looking like he was fighting back his tears.
"What are you doing here all alone, baby?" I asked, feeling a sudden onslaught of tears begin to firm behind my eyelids.
"I… I … um…. I don't… w-where's Maria…." His voice trailed off as he started to cry, tears streaming down his face.
The moment I saw Alex crying, I just couldn't hold myself back as I pulled him into my arms and held him tightly.
"It's absolutely fine, Alex…. I'm here."
"I-I want Daddy," Alex sniffed after a long moment. I didn't realize that we were sitting on the floor in the middle of an aisle in a grocery store.
Picking up him in my arms carefully, I stood up, his hands still wrapped around my neck. Realizing that he was now hanging in the air, Alex looked at me with those big brown-green specks innocent eyes, "How about I take you to your Daddy?" I asked, wiping his tears to which he nodded.
After finishing the groceries, I made my way a little dazedly to Kat's car. As Alex drained himself from crying, he was fast asleep in my arms.
Slowly, I opened the tail gate of the car and placed all the groceries in the backseat. Now, how was I supposed to take Alex with me? I don't even have a child seat!
Guess, I have to drive very slowly.
Carefully, I tucked Alex in the not so protective gear for children, the seatbelt. But somehow, I had to take the kid home and call his father.
While I was making my way towards the other side of the car, my phone vibrated in my pocket. Taking it out, I saw Kat's caller ID, sliding the finger across the screen before putting the phone to my ear. "Hey Kat, what's up?" I asked.
"Are you done with groceries?" Asked Kat.
"Yea... all done," I answered.
"Okay… so we...um... me and Mason are … you know going out," said Katherine, more like stammering, which made me smile.
"Really, well you both need it."
"See, Eve. If you want us to stay, we could-"
"Na-uh… miss Katherine, just go. I'll be fine." I replied, waving my hand in the air in dismissal which she obviously couldn't see.
"Okay, if you say so… and listen I've already prepared some pasta for you. Do take some rest and don't exert any pressure on your ankle, alright? And don't forget to lock the apartment before sleeping and…." She rambled at the other end of the phone.
"Yes mom…. Now leave, will you?" I said, cutting her in the midst of her never-ending rambling.
"Fine...take care we'll be back by tomorrow morning, okay?"
"Yea yea…. Have fun," I said before ending the call.
A goofy grin made its way to my lips as they set out for their date. Now that I was alone, what exactly was I going to do? I thoughtfully contemplated on how to spend the abundant time I had on my hands and suddenly a thought of a little boy came rushing back in my mind.
Damn! I've to take him home.
The drive to the apartment was rather short as it took barely ten minutes. I parked the car in the driveway, leaving the groceries behind in the car. I picked Alex's sleeping figure in my arms and made my way towards the apartment after locking the car.
Finally, after tucking Alex in my bed. I decided to inform Xavier about him being with me.
Nervousness was eating me alive, and I couldn't make myself dial his number. Then finally after a few minutes, I put on my big girl pants and dialed his number.
After two to four rings, he answered the call, "Xavier Knight." His voice sounded slightly breathless.
"Are you alright?" I asked.
"You've chosen a very bad timing to mess with my head, Miss Williams." He replied, bitterly.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Knight. But I've to tell you that-"
"Listen, Evelyn. I don't have bloody time to spare. Get to the point."
"Fine, Alex is with me right now." I snapped, already feeling my temper rising. He was just so goddamn aggravating! I was glad Alex was in the other room and wouldn't be able to hear the arguing. "And, before you start shouting and throwing insults at me. I found him in the supermarket, ALONE! How could you be so damn irresponsible?"
"Maria was with him!" He shouted from the other end, only infuriating me further.
"Really! Because I didn't see any Maria with him, he was all alone crying for his Daddy!" I yelled back and before he could say anything, I added, "And before you say anything else, I'm texting you the address. So, put your ego aside and get your ass here."
Slamming the phone on the kitchen counter, I let out a long, shaky breath.
Way to go Rose!
