Xavier’s girlfriend?
“I'm shocked and surprised by people that are shocked and surprised that certain things in life are made up or not as true as you might believe them to be.”
I turned towards Xavier whose eyes were widened like saucers and face contorted as if he had seen a ghost.
"What? Cat got your tongue, huh?" Said Mason, taunting Xavier.
Before any of them could say something, Marcus said, "Okay. That's enough and Evelyn's another brother," this caught Mason's attention, "You should freshen up and then we can talk."
Nodding in his direction, "Yea, sure." Agreed Mason.
"Carol," Marcus called out for Carolina who looked slightly disturbed from this morning's arguments.
"Yea?"
"Could you please show them a room? Chris and I have to discuss something." Asked Marcus.
"Yea, sure." Said Carolina and guided Kat, "This way please."
Giving me a last assuring glance, Kat and Mason went with Carolina while Marcus and Chris went into the backyard to discuss something, which meant Xavier and I were left alone in the room.
Glancing at Xavier's angry face, I prepared myself to leave. But something unexpected happened. While I was passing by his side, he whirled me around by my hand, pulling myself into his hard chest.
"What was that?" He asked, his voice slightly slurred.
Gulping nervously because of his strong cologne blocking my ability to think. "Wh... what?"
"Don't pretend to be innocent Evelyn. You aren't fooling anybody." He mumbled under his breath, his eyes glaring into mine.
"I was just giving my opinion." I said, thankfully without stuttering.
"Opinion, huh?" He said, tightening his hold on me in a painful manner, his fingers digging into my waist. "So, he's your brother or is he your next pawn? Afterall, you're just a player. So next time you decide to open this pretty little mouth of yours, remember that I know you. The real you, the one that you have been trying to hide." He spat, the feeling of indignation spreading through my being.
Once he was finished, he pushed me away from him with a jerk, enough to make me stumble on my steps. He then left without looking at me again while I stayed back, cursing myself for deciding to say something.

It took just an hour for Marcus and Mason to get acquainted, and well not just acquainted but to become really good friends. They were now talking like two brothers who got separated in their kindergarten, and Mason being Mason told Marcus how he had thrown a party in my name where he officially announced me as his sister.
Idiot!
And, my two idiot brothers with their two-idiot fiancé's, arranged a homecoming party for me.
What am I going to wear?!
At first, I dressed myself in dress pants and a button-down shirt but then Kat saved me from embarrassing myself and told me that this party was for me and I need to wear something classy, like a dress.
I didn't know when Kat and Carolina became best friends, but they were really in the sink. Well, as far as they all were happy, I'm fine.
Without having to ask, Kat chose a dress for me from Carolina's wardrobe, probably after realizing that I didn't bring anything like that with me.
The dress that she gave me was a wine red bodycon dress with two thin spaghetti straps holding it up. Although the dress reached below my knee, it was a little too tight for my taste.
Straightening my strawberry blondes and then curling the tips, I let them down freely on my shoulder. After applying some makeup and stepping into heels, I was ready to go to the party.
Throwing my mobile and purse in a handbag, I made my way to the elevator. The hall where the party was supposed to be was in the same hotel where we were staying.
Once I reached the door, the guard asked me for my invitation card, which I didn't have because I’m the one for whom the party is arranged. Chris had told me specifically that I should be there with him or someone else but I totally forgot about the entry thing.
"I'm Evelyn Williams, my brother, Marcus Williams, he is inside. I'll call him and he will come and get me." I said to the guard and he frowned at me.
"Back off until then." He said rudely and attempted to push me away but stopped when a hand landed on my waist.
"She is with me." It was Xavier's voice. I looked up to watch him glaring at the guard, his hand gently brushing over my back. He showed him his card and the rude guard let me inside. All the while, Xavier kept his hold on me which caused small tingles all over my back. He was wearing a dark green three-piece suit complementing his eyes and he looked really attractive in it.
Once we were inside, he pulled his hand away and I mentally frowned at the sudden loss of warmth. Before I could thank him, he had already moved forwards to talk to someone, leaving me standing behind.
Sighing, I looked around awkwardly. Carolina was right. Everyone was dressed in fancy gowns and business suits, drinking champagne or wine and decently conversing among themselves.
I felt so out of place, even though I have been to such parties before with Dad. But it has been a long time since then. Now the closest I go to a party is a night out with Kat and Mason once in a month.
Not wanting to stay in the center, I was about to move in a lonely corner where no-one could see me, but a waiter came in sight, offering the drinks. Picking up a glass of champagne before mumbling a simple thank you, I took a small sip and the sharp taste burnt my tongue.
"Here," a wine glass appeared in front of my face. "Contrary to popular belief, this cheery red wine tastes much better than this expensive champagne." The same voice said.
Angling my neck to look at the source of my voice, a tall young man stood in my line of sight, with blonde hair and glasses. He was dressed in a royal blue button up shirt and business pants.
"And you must be?" I drew my eyebrows closer and asked.
"Sam." He smiled.
"Eve-" I was about to introduce myself when Marcus' voice caught everyone's attention.
"Attention everyone," said Marcus standing in the center of the hall, "I'm really grateful that each one of you accepted my invitation on a very short notice. And you might be wondering what the party is about, right?"
In return, every one replied, yes or yeah.
"Well, I'm really happy because after five years, Evelyn Williams, my sister and I are reunited." Looking in my direction, Marcus walked towards me. "Evelyn, I had everything in these last five years, but my life always felt like something was missing and that was, you. Nothing could complete me the way you do. You'll always be my Angel, I love you." Said Marcus, tears gathered in the back of his eyes.
He stood at a hand distance and I couldn't hold myself back anymore as I moved in front and hugged him. "I love you too, Marc." I said, trying to hold my tears back.
A round of applause echoed around in the hall as everyone returned to their conversation, enjoying the party.
Looking up at Marcus, I said, "That was way too emotional."
His chest erupted into laughter, "Yea. But seriously, I'm happy." Marcus said genuinely.
"Yes, I can see that in your eyes and I'm happy too." I said, giving him a kiss on his cheek. "And now, attend your guests and enjoy the party."
"You sure?"
"Absolutely."
Giving me a kiss on my forehead, he left and joined Carolina while she was conversing with someone.
Looking to their right, I saw Kat and Mason enjoying themselves as she was laughing so hard that she was literally gasping for air.
Shaking my head in amusement, "So you're my boss' long lost sister?"
As by now I've recognized his voice, and turning around, I said, "You can say that."
"And that makes you off limits." I chuckled at his way of talking as I said, "You can say that too."
We talked like that for a good twenty minutes. Throughout the time, I felt a pair of eyes on me whenever I would look around.
Sam led me to the food corner which was rather unoccupied. My mouth watered at the sight of the delicious cheese burgers. I didn't even count how many different kinds of burgers I ate.
After eating to our desire, we both sat down again in a corner. He told me about all the people passing in front of me, who were working for Williams Enterprise. Even though we both were of the same age group, he had a lot more knowledge of these people and different companies.
"And see, that petite, gorgeous woman over there." He pointed towards Savannah this time, standing with…Xavier. For a moment, Xavier's eyes averted to us but when he found me already looking at him, he looked away.
"She's the one rumored to be Xavier Knight's girlfriend."
