Danger
“Why does a certain individual kill? It isn’t the most reputed or ethical action. Isn’t it their own instinct and mind, or is it the reaction of past actions?”
I moved my eyes to see Mason and Marcus, but they weren't there, "They went to fulfill the requirements." Answered Evelyn for me.
She walked out of the room as I trailed behind her, once we were in a quiet isolated zone, seeing the rise of the sun.
No words were exchanged, and it was uncomfortable, I looked at her through my peripheral vision, my brows drawn together slowly as I gazed upon her pretty face. Even with the light scar on her forehead she still looked as beautiful as the day I saw her walking down the aisle.
"I'm going to ask you something and please be truthful." She said, turning her body towards me to which I nodded.
"Have we met before?"
"Yes, we have." I answered absent-mindedly and mentally cussed myself, "At your office."
"Before the office I mean." She cleared.
"Not that I remember of, why did you ask?" I questioned.
Stop it, Xavier. She knows you're lying.
"Your eyes," looking into my eyes, her gaze was like she was finding something in my green orbs and what scared me was she was determined to find it.
I quickly averted my eyes, and stood straight, "What about my eyes?"
"They look familiar-"
"There are hundreds of people with green eyes." I cut her off in between.
She held my arm, and forcefully turned my body towards her, "You think I'm a fool Xavier, news-fucking-flash, Mr. Knight, I am not!" She yelled and suddenly grabbed her head as she whimpered in pain.
I knew her doctor said that it was better if we do not try anything to make Evelyn remember about her past, she might not take it very well. I lost her once, I wouldn't now. I have already gone through the grief of thinking my Rose is dead, I don't wish to go through that ever again.
Immediately, I held her shoulders and guided her towards the bench. Made her sit down as I kneeled down in front of her, "I know you have questions, a lot of them." I took her hands in mine, saying, "Believe me, I will answer everything once our -" immediately changing my words, "once your kids feel fine."
Before she could say anything, her phone pinged as she pulled it out of her pocket and read the message.
Her eyes widened and all the color drained from her face, "Hey! What happened?" I asked.
Looking up at me, her eyes looked fearful. She looked scared, but then she hid it well, saying, "N-Nothing… can you get me a glass of water?"
Narrowing my eyes, I asked, "Are you sure there's nothing?"
The way she held my hand, "Yes, it's just a headache…" her voice trailed.
"Okay, I'll get medicine."
Saying so, I got up and was about to walk away when she called, "Xavier," when I turned around, "I can feel it. It's just a matter of time before the truth will be revealed."
Her words messed around my mind as I said, "I'll get medicine, just wait here." To which she nodded.
After getting the painkillers and a glass of water, when I went back, she wasn't there. Pulling out my phone, I decided to call her. Before I could dial a number, I saw a forwarded message from her number which said:
“If you want Alexander Knight to live, come alone.”
There was a video attached, when I played the video, the glass fell from my hand and shattered on the floor. My blood ran cold when I saw my Alex tied to a chair with a bloody bruise on his head.
Another message flashed on my screen; it was from Evelyn and said:
“Inform the police, I'm on my way to get Xander. Just come fast.”
What if the kidnapper used Alex as a bait to get their hands on Evelyn?!
Damnit!
I immediately dialed Mason's number, and informed him, "Meet me in the parking, Evelyn and Alex are in danger, I think the one who tried to kill her five years back got them."
