Chapter 70 The Gift of Painting
Bane nodded with a smile.
With a wide smile, Sophie handed Bert the picture book.
Bert took it, opened it up, and at first he thought it was just a doodle, and when he saw it, he was shocked.
This is drawn with lines, looks messy, but in fact very neat, at first glance, very much like a rose about to blossom, this rose is also made of lines.
Although the brushwork is a little immature, but there is a wonderful charm, an ordinary child, simply can not draw such a level.
She clenched her little hands and said, "Handsome, isn't Sophie a good painter? Sophie should have been careful. Let me draw a new one for Uncle..."
Bert continued to look through the album, his heart filled with shock. He looked down at the nervous Sophie and said earnestly, "Sophie's painting is very good. It's wonderful."
Bert didn't really take any of this into account, but to be honest, Sophie's painting skills would have killed a lot of professional artists.
Bert was secretly proud that his son was clever, a genius, and that his daughter, whom he had found again, had a prodigious gift for drawing.
He was very proud of his children, who had so perfectly inherited all his good genes, that Bert's heart brightened when he looked at Bane.
"Sophie sent you this picture book, Uncle. Thank you Uncle for the present."
In return, Sophie felt less perturbed, her face visibly lightened, and she slept with her Barbie doll.
When Bert went away, Bane went to see him off.
Outside, Bane stopped and said, "You get tired of me saying thank you all the time, but there's nothing else I can do."
Bert looked at Bane and handed him the picture book he was holding. "Look at this," he said.
Bane opened the picture book. There was no surprise on his face, but he was calm, and Bert continued, "She's doing very well."
"Yes, it's something Sophie has always loved. Her greatest passion is painting."
"She has a gift for painting and should be developed as a major."
Bane's face looked a little surprised.
"You mean, Sophie should study art professionally?"
Bert nodded and continued, "Don't bury her talent."
She knew Sophie was a good painter, but she had never seen any of the other children's drawings, so she thought Sophie could draw as well as any other child. But Bert said, did Sophie have a gift for drawing?
"Let her study professional art. I'll find a teacher for her."
Bane looked at Sophie's painting with the feeling that he was delaying her.
She was so preoccupied with rescuing Sophie that she worked frantically, ignoring all other developments in Sophie's life.
Nor could it be her fault, for the medical bills Sophie needed had sapped all his energy.
"Sophie, she's only five years old. Is she starting out as a professional so soon? Can she stand it? After all, her body..."
Bane didn't say the next thing, but the atmosphere grew somber.
Bert thought for a moment. "Sophie is in remission with the latest drugs," he said. "Her condition will change with her mind, and staying in hospital will do her no good."
"As soon as the new drugs have stabilised Sophie's condition, I will keep her close to me."
Bert said directly, "Where have you got the time?"
Bane was about to protest, but Bert interrupted her.
"The work at Lakern requires all your concentration, and a lack of attention can easily lead to a failure. Can you afford that? Besides, you can't stand that kind of work in your current state of health. It was just a fluke that you got away with this time. Can you guarantee that you won't die suddenly next time?"
In fact, Bert's words were vicious, but every one of them touched Bane's weak spot.
Burt continued, "Quit that job."
Bane looked up sharply at Bert. "Are you kidding?"
Bert sneered with a hint of sarcasm on his face. "You can either do your job or Sophie," he said. "You can't have it both ways."
He had found out that Ward Jonathan was the founder of Lakern, and that Bane was Ward Jonathan's ex-girlfriend, who was still courting Bane.
When he came back, he set up Lakeen Ventures here, and Lakeen, if he didn't like Bane, it was so obvious that Bert couldn't be angry, and there was a flash of anger in his eyes.
Your woman can only be in your own hands, how can you give it to another man's mouth? Besides, the man wanted to be his daughter's stepfather.
"Lakern's work is very important to me," Bane said bravely. "I have Sophie's medical bills to pay."
Bert had not said that he would pay the medical bill, for he knew very well that Bane would disagree, and she was anxious now to repay him as soon as possible without getting involved too much.
However, this is not an easy thing.
With so much involved, how can we tell?
"If you come to be a governess in Norton, you'll get a higher salary than Lakerne."
Bane wouldn't believe that.
"Norton has better, more professional teachers. I can't."
Norton is smart. Bane remembers it well.
"Huh? You are the talented girl of imperial capital university, can be afraid of this?"
Unfazed by the challenge, Bane responded calmly, "I don't even have a college degree."
"It doesn't matter. Norton is such a picky eater. You can cook for him."
Here Bert's voice became helpless.
Bane's got the point. Norton's picky eaters are the main thing. The governess is just a cover.
Bane hesitated.
Bert saw her hesitating, and secretly raised the weight.
'The tutor in charge of Norton, who is also very professional in painting, Sophie can come and work with her and the lessons won't affect her.'
"Sophie can go?" Bane asked subconsciously.
Bert's face softened a bit. "Well, Sophie's a nice girl. She won't bother Norton," he said.
Bane was impressed.
She kept reminding herself that she could not promise this, that Bert was too difficult to see through, and that such gratuitous kindness was unacceptable.
But it was too hard for Bane to refuse.
Especially every time she went to see Sophie, she looked both happy and afraid of being abandoned.
