Chapter 73 I can't go back
Ward would not listen to her. Instead, he gathered strength, as if he held the most important treasure in his arms.
"Bane, did I do something wrong? You tell me I'm no match for that man, and I'm sure I'll change."
"Ward Jonathan, you don't talk nonsense!
"Will you not be with that man? Stay with me. I can change everything you don't like for you."
"Ward, Jonathan!
"I can protect you. I've been working day and night for six years, hoping to come back soon enough to protect you, Bane. Don't leave me, Bane, because if you do, it'll be the end of my source of persistence..."
Ward felt a bitter taste in his mouth, bitter than anything else, and his mind drifted with the knowledge that his Bane was about to leave and belong to someone else.
Every day and every night for the past six years, he had been sustained by this thought. He wanted to get capital quickly, so he refused any help from his family. Everything he had now was earned by himself.
But now he is about to lose his source of persistence.
Such a big drop was more than he could accept.
At that moment, alcohol had taken away all his sense, and his body was in the grip of impulse. He didn't care about that much, he just wanted to keep Bane.
Bane got angry and said, "Ward Jonathan, be sensible, please, and let me go before anyone sees you!"
"Bane, will you give me one more chance? I'll prove it to you, please don't go away, I really only need a little time to..."
Ward let go of his hand. His eyes and face were full of pain and despair, with a hint of supplication.
Ward, who had been a brilliant student at Royal Capital University, the eldest son of Jonathan's son, and who had all the glory in him, was so humble in front of Bane.
Bane's throat felt like a wad of cotton, and she could not utter a word of those cruel determinations.
When Bane didn't speak, Ward took it as a sign of hope. He put his hand on Bane's shoulder and his voice cracked. "Bane, you remember my promise to you? No matter what you do, I will always be there for you. I am six years late. Now, I have the power to protect you.
Bane thought for a moment, averting his hot eyes. "Let bygones be bygones, Ward Jonathan. You're my friend."
Ward just yelled, "No! You know I want to be more than your friend!"
Bane's face was calm. She took Ward's hand away and stepped back.
"We can't be more than friends, Ward Jonathan, and there are some things you can't go back from."
Ward was stunned.
"Bane, why are you so cruel?
But he did not know how badly Bane was feeling.
It's impossible not to be touched.
Ward is excellent, but also so deep, such a deep feeling, no matter who will be covetous.
But she could not turn back.
She could not like him as she had done six years before, and Ward had eyes for more than her.
She had already been slapped six years earlier, and she didn't want to repeat it.
As the eldest son and heir to the throne of the Jonathan family, he had spent too much time and effort grooming him for Bane to bear.
Six years ago, Bane would have believed him, but he was gone, and even though Bane knew that Ward was not to blame, the shadow in his heart was not so quickly removed.
"Ward Jonathan, I can write off what happened tonight as never happening, and I can write off what you said."
"Bain......"
"I'll go first."
Bane started to go, but as she was about to, Ward seized her wrist and, with a direct tug, he clasped her again.
Ward's face moved closer and closer to Bane's. Bane froze, their faces so close that they seemed about to kiss.
When she was ready to duck, she was pulled straight out of Ward's arms.
Bane almost fell because of inertia.
Her arm was squeezed so tightly that it seemed to crush her bones.
Bane turned his head and saw Bert with a cold face.
"Others are so bully you, you also don't know to fight back?"
Bert's voice was cold, and his face was full of rage and cannibalism.
Bane's heart was beating fast. "You, how did you get here so quickly?"
Didn't you just get off the phone? Why are we here now?
Ward recognized the man in front of him, and his mind was suddenly much clearer. He saw Bane being protected by Bert. For a moment, everything seemed to be understood."
"Bane, you... How could you? Bane, don't be ridiculous!"
Bane knew Ward had made a mistake, and she tried to explain, but she swallowed the words on her lips.
If Ward could give up this time, she wouldn't mind being misunderstood for once.
When he saw that Bane did not speak, Ward confirmed his innermost suspicion, and his mind was suddenly clear.
"Bane, he's engaged. Don't you, don't you know that?"
Bert croaked his mouth and sneered. "After all these years, have you learned to be a rascal?"
Ward, alarmed, said, "Bert Ron, you're not playing with Bane, you're playing with someone else!"
Then he reached for Bane's hand, but Bert was quicker than he was. He closed his hand directly, his eyes narrowed, and a dangerous light flickered under them.
"People with a backbone don't turn back! It's humiliating!"
"Bert Ron! What do you know? ! Don't tell if you don't know!"
Bert sneered. "You were a coward six years ago," he said. "Why don't you pretend to be a warrior today?"
Ward's face went white.
He knew that Bert was talking about being forced by his family six years earlier.
It was true that he had let Bane down in this, but he had regretted it a thousand times. Would he not have been what he was if he had not left?
But he did not want to think of that, and his heart ached as though it were pierced by a sharp sword.
"Bert Ron, you've got a fiancee, will you stop? !"
"I just saw it and couldn't stand it."
Ward could not believe such a poor excuse, and he had to admit that he had been too impulsive to come close to disaster, and that he did not really want to embarrass Bane.
