79 - The chapter where Christian invents an excuse

I wiped away my tears, blowing my nose, feeling a little lighter at that moment. What is he doing to me?
I have never allowed anyone to get that close!
But that doesn't matter, what matters is that he is here now. I already have too much to worry about at the moment to let other anxieties take over.
A small knock sounded on the door before Christian opened it.
" They brought you tacos, donuts and juice. Come and have some " he held out his hand to me.
That's when I remembered my mother. During the afternoon she probably thought I was in class, but if I don't give them any satisfaction now, they might start to worry. But the last thing I wanted was for them to realize that something was wrong.
" I was talking to my mom and I stopped answering her messages, she must be worried," I sighed, sitting down at the desk where Christian had put my lunch.
" Do you want to use my cell phone? " he took the phone out of his pocket and offered it to me, but I quickly declined.
If at the time it all started, my mother wanted to beat up Alicia for calling me bitch, if she knew what happened, she would surely pull the girl out of the sorority house by the hair. And if I talked to her, she would realize that something was wrong. They always knew.
" I won't be able to talk to them, if they know what happened they will get in the car and come to see me, and…”
" Would that be so bad? " Christian appraised me.
" When my father wanted to know about Anderson last week, I was afraid he would find out the name and get in trouble with the police for sending a college student to the hospital.” I sighed "If my mother finds out that they dug up that damn song, not even SWAT would get her off Alicia's back.”
All right, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but the only thing that stopped my mother before was the fact that Allie was underage.
" You better eat something, I can fix that for you, I have your father's number.” He reassured me by walking away while typing something on his device.
Great, he can just send me a message saying that I asked him to tell me that my phone is broken, and that would give me time to get myself together!
" Let him know that when I fix it I will call him, and…”
" Good evening, Mr. Campbell," I turned around wide eyed to hear Christian greet my father naturally.
What does he think he's doing!
" Yes, that's exactly why I'm calling " I thought of interfering, but he motioned with his finger for me to be quiet " Yes, she asked me to tell you that she dropped her cell phone on the floor this afternoon and broke the screen. No, she is fine, don't worry.”
It's okay, he's doing fine.
" There's nothing wrong... no, she's not here with me, I just left her in her room," he smiled as he looked at me. “Right, I shouldn't tell you that, she didn't want you to know…”
I widened my eyes at that phrase, he wouldn't dare, right?
" We went out after class today, she had too much to drink, I just took her back to her room, and all she could talk about was how upset you would be that she was drinking in the middle of the week," he added to my relief.
I could handle that story better than having to explain what actually happened.
" Don't worry, we weren't at a party, we just hung out with the guys," he added.”Yes, tomorrow morning I'll lend her my cell phone so she can call you.”
I stood up, approaching him, who had turned his back to me. I felt my heart beating hard in my chest at the thought of all that he had done for me that day.
When he walked into that room I felt like a wreck, but slowly he managed to help me send most of those negative feelings away. Christian ended the call, turning to me.
" Did you tell my father that I'm drunk? " I raised both eyebrows.
" He realized that something was wrong. It was either that or tell him what happened…”
I didn't wait for him to finish his sentence, taking both my hands to his face, pulling him to me. Christian kissed back calmly, pulling away with a small satisfied smile on his face.
" Come on, you need to eat a little," he led me back to the desk.
I shared the tacos and doughnuts with him, enjoying his company to the fullest, trying to put aside everything bad that had happened to me that day, focusing on the private universe we had created in that room. A universe where nothing bad could reach me.
After I finished eating I lay down on the bed while Christian went to get his laptop to watch a movie. He made me promise to stay away from any social network where I could relive what happened.
