Chapter 33
Kendra POV
“GOT HIM!” I hear someone scream from the road.
“Bradley!” I scream. He does not move. I push him off of me. It is not easy, but I manage to get him off of me. My husband has been shot.
“Can you hear me?” I ask him.
“Yes,” he says weakly.
“I need to go get help,” I say.
I do not want to leave him here alone. I run to the road. Whoever shot him is long gone. I begin screaming as I am running for the cabins. His mother and Chuck are both running in our direction.
“We heard a shot. Are you okay?” She hollers toward me.
“No! It is Bradley! Hurry!” I scream.
Alissa keeps running toward me. Chuck turns to go back to the cabin. Alissa and I both sit next to Bradley.
“How does it look?” I ask her.
“Chuck will know what to do, don’t worry, he will be fine,” Alissa says.
“Son, can you hear me?” Alissa says to Bradley.
“Yes, mother, I can hear you. It hurts really bad,” Bradley says.
Chuck pulls into the beach with his truck. He gets out and runs for us. “We can put him in the back and take him back to the cabin. I will call a pack doctor to come to see about him,” Chuck says.
“What if that is who shot him?” I ask.
“I will call Andrea instead,” Chuck says.
It takes all three of us to get him in the back of the truck. I climb in the back of the pickup and lay beside him. He reaches for me. I hold onto his hand tightly.
“You are going to be fine,” I say to him.
“I know I will; I got you,” Bradley says.
When we get to the cabin, Alissa goes in to bring two blankets. She hands me one to wrap my naked body. I only realized at that moment that I am still naked in front of everybody. She took the other and placed it under Bradley. She and Chuck were able to lift him with ease with the blanket under him. I opened the door for them. They laid him on the bed.
I sat down beside the bed. “A lot of people will be coming to check on him. Get dressed. I will stay right here with him,” Alissa says.
I step away for a moment. I go into the bathroom to dress quickly. I take the moon pack pendant from around my neck and throw it onto the floor. Fuck this wolf shit; it is nothing but trouble.
I splash some water on my face to get my bearings. I need to be strong and brave for Bradley. I look in the mirror and realize that my eyes are now dark blue. Great, something else to worry about tonight.
I go back to Bradley. Alissa is weeping beside the bed. She is holding on to his hand, saying something I do not understand.
“Alissa,” I say as I approach her.
“I have tried to protect him always. I never wanted any of this wolf business to follow him,” Alissa says.
“I don’t know how you are feeling, but I know that Bradley is strong and brave. I know in my heart that he will be fine,” I say.
“I hope so,” Alissa says.
I look up and make eye contact with Alissa. She looks into my eyes. Her eyes get big when she notices that my eyes have changed colors again.
“Your eyes,” Alissa says.
“I know it is weird,” I say.
“No, you do not understand,” Alissa says.
Bradley begins to groan. “Bradley, are you okay? What hurts? What do you need?” I ask him.
“It stings like fire,” Bradley says.
Chuck burst into the cabin. He slams the cabin door behind him. “Andrea is on his way. How is he?” Chuck asks.
“He says it feels like fire,” Alissa says.
“They probably laced the bullet with something deadly to wolves. Bradley is not a full wolf. It should not kill him,” Chuck says.
“Shouldn’t ?” I question him.
Chuck looks at the pendant around Bradley’s neck. Chuck pulls it off of him. “Where did you get this?” Chuck asks.
“My aunt Sherry gave it to us. She said it would help me turn on command,” I say.
“That bitch! This necklace will make you both weak. You can turn on your own. All you got to do is think it and turn,” Chuck says.
He is beyond angry. He slams the necklace into the ground and smashes it into pieces.
“I am going to kill that bitch!” Chuck says.
Bradley begins to gain some color back into his face with the necklace off of him.
“Will he be okay?” I ask.
“We will have to get the bullet out of him,” Chuck says.
“What do you need?” Alissa asks.
“Kendra, I need you to call that bitch. You tell her Bradley is dead and that Alissa and I blame you. Tell her you need your family,” Chuck says.
“Okay, I can do that now,” I say.
“Tell her to come to pick you up in the morning. We will be ready and waiting for her,” Chuck says.
I hear a car pull up outside. I go to the window to look to see who it is. “It is Andrea and another vampire,” I say.
“He brought Jamie with him. He is a surgeon,” Chuck says.
I go back to Bradley’s side. “Hey, we are going to get you all fixed up now, okay,” I say to him.
I lean down and kiss him gently on the lips. He opens his eyes. He looks into my eyes.
“Your eyes are different,” Bradley says.
“We can worry about my eyes after you are all better,” I say.
I kiss him on the forehead. Andrea and Jamie enter the cabin. Chuck goes over to talk to them. I cannot hear what they are saying. Andrea picks up a piece of the stone off the floor. He looks angry too. Andrea comes to my side.
“I am sorry this happened to you,” Andrea says.
“It is not your fault,” I say.
“I should not have dug into your past. Jamie will fix him. We can give him vampire blood to help the healing process,” Andrea says.
“Thank you,” I say.
“Come on; we need to let them work,” Chuck says to Alissa and me.
I lean down to kiss Bradley again. “I will be back soon; I love you,” I say to him.
He doesn’t respond; Bradley has drifted off to sleep.
