Chapter 34
Kendra POV
I go into the cabin with Alissa. I do not want to leave Bradley behind, but I know I would only be in the way. I need to let Jamie and Andrea work on him. I cannot believe that bitch set us up. Damn wolves! It is always something with wolf bullshit.
“You need to make that call to Sherry,” Alissa says.
“What should I say?” I ask her.
“Just what Chuck told you to say. Tell her Bradley did not make it and that we blame you. Tell her we want you gone and that you need her to come to get you tonight,” Alissa says.
“Okay, I can do that,” I say.
I go into the main cabin office to make the call. I pick up the phone. I dial the number Sherry gave me for the pack emergency line. I wait for someone to answer. I start to cry as a young voice comes onto the line.
“Hi, this is Kendra. I need to speak to Sherry. I have an emergency,” I say into the phone.
“Hold please, I will transfer you,” the voice says.
The phone begins to beep while I am being transferred to Sherry.
“Hello,” Sherry says when she picks up the phone.
“Aunt Sherry, it is me, Kendra. I need you to come to get me tonight,” I say.
“What is wrong? Are you okay?” she asks.
“No, Bradley was killed tonight. Alissa and Chuck think it is my fault. I need my family. Can you please come to get me?” I ask.
“Yes, I will be there to get you tonight,” Sherry says.
“Thank you,” I say.
I hang up the phone. I go back to Alissa.”Alissa, something is bothering me,” I say.
“Joe is married to Sherry; is he in on it?” I ask her.
“He did not come with Andrea tonight. He could be. When need to be careful,” Alissa says.
“Who do you think shot him?” I ask.
“It had to be a wolf. A vampire would not have shot him; he would have attacked him,” Alissa says.
“I can make us some coffee,” I say. I get up from the table. I go to the coffee pot. I begin to make the coffee when Chuck comes into the cabin. I hit brew before turning around. My stomach sinks as Chuck slowly walks into the kitchen.
“He is fine. Andrea is giving him vampire blood now to speed the healing process,” Chuck says.
I fall to the floor sobbing. I almost lost Bradley tonight. Chuck comes over to me and helps me to my feet.
“Listen, pull yourself together. Bradley needs you to be strong,” Chuck says.
“Okay, I called Sherry; she will be here to get me tonight,” I say.
“Good,” Chuck says.
“Chuck, Is Joe involved?” Alissa asks.
“I do not think so, but Andrea is going to tell Joe that Bradley died until we are sure,” Chuck says.
“Any idea why they want him dead?” Alissa asks.
“Why do you think? He killed the Alpha for the moon pack. They want to keep their little sex operation going,” Chuck says.
“I thought Sherry was not involved with the moon pack,” I say.
“She is involved somehow, it doesn’t matter how, but she will pay for this,” Chuck says.
“I agree,” Alissa says.
“Go be with Bradley; he was asking for you,” Chuck says to me.
“I will be over with some soup,” Alissa says.
I hug Alissa. “I am sorry this happened,” I say to her.
“Honey, none of this is your fault,” Alissa says to me.
I rush out of the cabin back to Bradley. When I get to our cabin door, I pause. I take a deep breath. I finally turn the knob and go in. I want to be perfectly calm when I see him.
When I walk in, Andrea and Jamie are talking. “How is he?” I ask.
“He will be fine. It will take him a few weeks to get back to his old self. Jamie is an excellent surgeon. He took excellent care of him. I gave him some vampire blood to help speed the healing process,” Andrea says.
“Thank you both for everything you did here for him,” I say.
“Well, we will leave you to tend to him,” Andrea says.
As the two walk away, I can hear them going back and forth about something.
“Kendra, Jamie here wants to know if you know what your eyes mean?” Andrea asks.
“No, I actually don’t. Alissa was about to tell me, then Bradley was in pain, so I put that knowledge on the back burner,’ I say to the two vampires.
“Would you like to know?” Jamie says.
“Only if it is good news,” I answer him.
The two vampires laugh. “Well, it could be good news. I guess it depends on you and Bradley,” Jamie says.
“What is it? Is there something else wrong with me?” I ask.
“No, No, No,” Jamie says.
“Then what?” I ask him.
Bradley begins to groan. I rush to his side.
“Are you okay?” I ask Bradley.
“Yes, I think I have been asked that a hundred times,” Bradley says.
“Well, we are all concerned,” I say.
“Your eyes are blue,” Bradley says.
“Jamie and Andrea were just about to tell me why,” I say to him.
Bradley looks up at the two vampires standing at the end of our bed. “Well, why are her eyes no longer green? We figured it was because she was no longer in heat,” Bradley says.
“She is no longer in heat, that is for sure,” Andrea says.
“Then what?” I ask.
“Kendra, you are pregnant,” Jamie says.
My heart sank into my stomach. I sit down beside Bradley on the bed.
“No fucking way,” I say.
Bradley reaches for my hand. “Does this make you happy?” I ask him.
“Yes, there is nothing more in this world I could ever want than to share a child with you,” Bradley says.
“Well, we will leave the two of you to discuss this good news,” Andrea says.
The two vampires leave the cabin to talk to Chuck and Alissa.
“Are you okay?” Bradley asks me.
“I think so; it has been an eventful night for us both,” I say.
