Her gift
Thandi finally exhaled, she was happy that the wedding went well and was over. The guest had departed to their homes. They were left with close friends and relatives.
“I am sorry that we can not go on our honeymoon at the moment but I promise to take you soon” S’bu said kissing her neck. He has not been to JC since Thandi was discharged from the hospital because he chose to personally take care of her but now there were projects that needed his urgent attention.
“I understand, I also have to cash up with my work. I feel bad for having left Mandy alone all this time” Thandi said.
“You are pregnant and need to rest, Mandy needs to adjust without you” he said.
“Don’t be so old fashioned, I’m pregnant not sick and my work is not strenuous at all” Thandi objected.
“Fine, but if anything happens, no matter how small, I’m pulling the plug and you will stay at home until our child is born” he warned.
Thandi rolled her eyes and poked out her tongue. S’bu had become too overprotective since he found out that she was pregnant.
“I believe I owe you a wedding present” he said handing a gift box to her.
Thandi opened the box, excited and took out a set of keys.
“What’s this?” she asked curious.
“This, my love is the key to our home” he said lovingly.
“We already have a home!” Thandi exclaimed.
“No baby, you have a flat and I have a house. This is the key to our home, where we will make new memories and raise our children” he explained.
“I really don’t want to be the cause of your bankruptcy” she said. She did not know how much exactly S’bu spent on their wedding but it was a lot and she was feeling guilty about it.
“You do realise that as my wife you own everything I have, right?” he asked. “Come on, everyone is waiting for us to lead the way and our driver is waiting” he said pulling her to the car.
After helping Thandi in the car, he asked everyone to follow them. The car drove to the west end of the city where new developed sites were located. S’bu tied his tie around Thandi’s eyes blocking her site until the car came to a stop. He helped her off the car still blinded.
“Are you ready?” he asked excited.
Thandi nodded.
“Welcome to our home” he said removing the tie.
Their family and friends were screaming with excitement around her.
“No! You didn’t!” Thandi exclaimed. She couldn’t believe her eyes. Before her was the most beautiful three storey mansion. It had a huge infinity swimming pool in front. The huge garden below the swimming pool had rows of different colour roses and a beautiful water feature in the center. She had seen a mansion exactly like this one on a magazine ten years ago. It belonged to a noble family in a country she could not recall. She loved it so much that she tore the page and kept it in her private book but she never told anyone about it.
“How did you even know about it?” Thandi asked amazed.
“A year ago when I visited your Grandma, I took a look in your room and found your book of collections, dreams and goals. It seems you have achieved everything in that book except this. That’s why I decided to make this dream come true as well” he said lovingly.
“I put that photo there ten years ago! I was young and naive then and had no idea how expensive houses were, let alone a mansion!” she exclaimed. On a normal day, she would reprimand him for snooping around in her room and looking at her old memories but today her head was already buzzing.
“You still like it, don’t you?” he asked making puppy eyes at her.
“I love it” she confessed tears rolling down her cheeks. Her whole life, she has not seen anything close to it. Now she was going to live and raise her children in her dream mansion.
“I love you Thandiswa Jobe, never ever doubt that” he said with a husky voice.
Thandi threw herself in his arms unable to control her emotions.
“Careful now MaDlamini, we still have guest around. You have your whole life to make it up to me” he said teasing her.
Thandi blushed pushing him away.
“Are you two love birds just going to stand there forever? We want to go inside and explore this mansion” Mandy asked excited.
“Give me a moment” S’bu said, going closer to Thandi, picking her up and walking into the house with her. “You can all come in now” he shouted to their family and friends who were cheering for them. Everyone rushed in to explore the mansion. A few minutes later Amahle came downstairs running.
“My room, I saw my room, it’s perfect” thank you Daddy, she said, short of breath and her eyes twinkling with excitement.
“Welcome home princess”S’bu said hugging his excited daughter. He knew that day he did not only fulfil Thandi’s dreams but Amahle’s as well. At that very moment he was the happiest man alive.
