Home, where you belong
S’bu and his cousin were still sitting down the hill when they heard a familiar voice.
“It’s good to know that you will actually mourn for me” it said.
“Thandi?” S’bu said rubbing his eyes. Did he wish Thandi was there so much that he started imagining her talking to him?
“No, it’s my ghost, who-ooh” she said laughing, sitting next to him.
“Thandi” he called her name again, touching her face. “You are here” he said kissing her.
“How is this possible?” Sbu’s cousin asked, puzzled. “We all saw your car exploding.”
“When the truck knocked my car off the road, it was caught by those tree branches for few minutes before it started rolling down. I managed to get off in time and held on the tree but I lost my balance climbing down. I don’t remember what happened after that, I might have been unconscious. I think I hit my head on that big rock” she said pointing to the rock.
“You have a big bump on your head” S’bu said touching her head.
“Ouch, don’t do that!” she scolded him.
“You are definitely not a ghost”S’bu said laughing.
“S’busiso” she said lovingly.
“Don’t ever leave me, I won’t survive it” he said, emotional.
“Don’t ever betray me, I will kill you” she said kissing him.
“I will die first before I ever betray you again” he said lovingly.
Mrs J and Mandy had also heard about the accident and went to join Mr J at the scene. “I can’t believe she is gone, I didn’t get a chance to tell her how sorry I am” Mandy said sobbing.
“We all didn’t sweetie” Mrs J said sobbing as well. They had all hoped that one day they will get a chance to apologise to Thandi but that was impossible now.
“We need to go up now and Thandi needs that bump on her head checked out. I will climb up first, once I’m up there, you two can use the same rope and I will pull you up” the paramedic suggested. No one believed the paramedic when he told them that Thandi was alive and he had left her with S’bu down the hill. Thandi and S’bu were kissing passionately down the hill when they heard their cousin shouting. “Stop making out and hold on to the rope!” he shouted. He was already irritated by the people who thought he was crazy and imagining things and wanted them to see Thandi with their one eyes.
“Okay” they said laughing. On the way up, S’bu was holding Thandi like the most precious fragile gift he ever received. The moment they were pulled up, chaos broke loose. The journalists who were already reporting Thandi’s death ran towards them with flashing cameras taking photos of Thandi and S’bu. Thandi explained to them how she survived the accident. She was about to get into the ambulance with S’bu when one of them shouted. “Does this mean you two are together again?”
“When I saw my car rolling down the hill I realised that life is too short to spend away from the person you love”she said holding Sbu’s hand. The ambulance took Thandi to the hospital where she was admitted for observation. The scan of her brain showed a fracture on her skull but nothing else was damaged. She was discharged in good health the following day.
S’bu had moved Amahle, Sipho and June to the mansion while Thandi was in hospital.
“Where are you taking me?” Thandi asked noticing that S’bu had passed the road to her home.
“Home, where you belong” he said lovingly.
Thandi was quiet until they got to the mansion. She wondered if it will ever be the same again. They had spent the best years of their lives in the mansion but she had also spent the worst months of her life in it. She was greeted by excited Sipho and Amahle who ran to her arms the moment she got off the car. S’bu watched Thandi answer a million questions from Sipho and Amahle with a huge smile on his face. These three people in front of him were his life and he swore to protect them with everything he had.
“Your Mom just got discharged from the hospital, she needs to rest” he said coming to Thandi’s rescue. Sipho wanted Thandi to play a puzzle with him while Amahle wanted her to look through a catalog and choose a dress for matric dance for her.
“Will you have something to eat first, I made all your favourite dishes” June said, standing at the doorway.
‘Thank you, June, the hospital food is terrible, I am starving” Thandi said hugging her. “I hope you did not miss your assignment deadlines because you were cooking for me” she added.
“All my assignments are submitted”June said proudly.
“You stole June! Dad won’t be impressed with you” Thandi said looking at S’bu.
“I told him that it was your idea and we all know that Dad never says no to you” S’bu said.
“That’s because I never ask him ridiculous things” she said walking into the house. She walked around the hallway, everything was exactly how she left it.
“I am so sorry I made you leave this place” S’bu said standing behind her.
“You have a lot of making up for Mr Jobe, I hope you did not use up all your energy on that witch” she said whimsically. S’bu was clearly regretting everything that happened, she decided not to make his life difficult anymore.
“You better eat and stock your energy stores because you are going to need it” he whispered on her ear, pressing his body on her back.
“The children are around” she whispered, blushing and walking away from him. Thandi was very touched when she saw how much food June had prepared for her. It was all her favourite dishes. She ate until she could not take in anymore. She still felt tired and decided to go rest in her bedroom. When she walked in, there were rose petals on the floor and scented candles all over. On the bed, the petals were shaped like a heart and next to it was a card written ‘welcome home baby, you are the love of my life’. She closed her eyes and smiled, it was so romantic. A few days ago she was sure that she hated S’bu but now everything she once felt for him was suddenly back and her heart longed for him. She took off her clothes, walked into a shower and let the water drip on her.
“I would join you but I’m afraid that I might loose control and you just got out of the hospital” S’bu said standing at the shower door.
“Maybe you are afraid that you lost your touch” she said daring him.
S’bu removed all his clothes in a split second and got into the shower. He picked Thandi up and supported her back against the wall. “I could loose touch on a lot of things but pleasing you is what I was born to do” he said charmingly. Kissing her passionately, he positioned himself inside her and she wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around her neck.
“Thandiswa Jobe, I love you with all my heart” he said rocking her up and down against the shower wall. She moaned with pleasure and soon she was screaming his name over and over until her whole body was vibrating driving him to his peak. Thandi was so exhausted, S’bu had to carry her to their bed.
“Do you still think I lost my touch? because there’s more where that came from” he said proudly.
S’bu still liked praising himself. “Somethings never change” she said laughing.
“And they never will” he said kissing her and getting aroused again.
“Take it easy on me, I did get my skull cracked a day ago” she said pushing him away and covering herself.
