Chapter 13
Thea's Point of View
I was completely unable to recall even a single one of them. When I was in the hospital, Mason and Aunt Joana helped me out but I didn't feel any comfort.
After I had recovered some of my strength, they shared their information about Craig with me. They informed me that I had already arranged the wedding and that it was impossible to postpone it since a significant amount of money had already been spent on it.
I did not object...
Up until this point, the only thing I knew for certain about Craig was that he made me feel content and safe whenever we were together. As a result, I was unsure whether or not to trust him.
One of the maids who worked in the main mansion, where my parents and I used to live, informed me that my Aunt Joana was really my father's mistress.
I thought they were my parents' relatives or siblings, so I let them assist me due of this misconception.
Mason chuckled and ruffled my hair.
"You're still extremely obstinate. If that is what you want to do, there is nothing we can do to stop you." He indicated the empty office that was just next to his.
"I ordered them to thoroughly clean your office. Because it has been unused for such a long time, the dust has begun to accumulate on it. I also looked over your computer, and as far as I can tell, there aren't any issues."
After finishing his sentence, he glanced across at Craig. "Craig, I have some thoughts that I'd like to share with you on the impending merging of firms."
After receiving my assent, Craig placed his hand on my waist and nodded. Because he was so much taller than I was, I could barely reach his shoulders. Even in stilettos, we are still unequal. It's likely that he and Mason are of the same stature.
"Would you want me to drive you home, or would you wait for me in your office while Mason and I have a discussion?"
I jerked his hand away from my waist and stared him down with a stern expression on my face. "I'm going to wait."
I'm not behaving in this manner for no apparent reason. Because of what he has done, I have developed this attitude toward him. Because of what he does, there is now even more reason to question and suspect about him.
I chose to disregard their concerns the first few times I had doubts about him, but it seems that I should not put all of my faith in him just yet.
When I tried to open the door to my office, someone stopped me with their hand. My attention was drawn to the heritage ring that was being worn on the hand. Before the owner spoke, I gazed at it closely because I recognized it even though I had never seen it before.
“Thea... You haven't told Craig about the medication that I've given you, have you?”
I tried to remove her hand but I struggled to get away from it. "Why are you so worried that Craig will figure out that you gave me the medicine?"
"That's not the case at all. You are aware of the history that your parents have with me. I was concerned that Craig could be upset with me or suspect me and think that I'm bad at your health." She stated this with a frightened grin on her face. "He could prevent you from receiving anything from me."
It doesn't make sense...
"I don't believe that Craig will be upset with you over something as little as that. If that's the case, he won't pick up the phone when you call, will he?" When I told her that, I could see the surprise in her eyes.
I stepped inside and then left her standing there, but the look of shock on her face did not go. As soon as I came inside, my eyes were drawn to the office table, where I could see a computer, a photo frame, and a nameplate.
President Timothea Curtis.
There's a chance that they haven't updated the nameplate while I've been gone. I removed some of the dust that had formed on the picture frame while seated in the swivel chair that rotates 360 degrees. the photograph of my mom and dad laughing and holding each other close.
I moved it to a new spot and started up my computer.
It requires a username and password to access. I attempted to input my birthday as well as my name, but none of them worked.
I opened the drawer when I couldn't think of another password. As soon as I open it, I found a male thumb ring.
When I took it out of the drawer, I discovered small letters engraved on it.
“Nunc scio quid sit amor.”
When I touched what was written, the words that I hadn't said since the accident came out of my mouth.
'Now I know what love is.'
“I'm not familiar with that line.” I mumbled to myself and amid my awe, Megan's name appeared on my phone. The person who claimed to be my best friend.
I received a text message from her.
[Shall we go? Let's have fun!]
I didn't reply to her message because I don't have time yet. I stood up from my sitting position. I wanna go home.
When I turned around, I saw Craig's hand tightly gripping Mason's collar.
"What the hell?"
I quickly gathered my belongings and prepared to leave.
"You two!" I shouted at them and ran in their direction.
Craig and Mason are the same height, however they have completely distinct body forms.
"Fuck you! Don't tell me what to do since I'm perfectly capable of figuring it out on my own!" Craig's voice boomed.
Mason laughed at him loudly and seemed to be making fun of him and because of that, Craig hit him in the face.
My step brother wiped the blood from his lip and then shoved Craig, who didn't even move to his position. His lip was bleeding. As soon as Mason turned to look at me, I reached out and grabbed Craig by the arm.
"That's enough with you, Craig! I'd like to go back home and rest! Stop it!"
My head starts to ache because of the events that are taking on. I have reason to suspect that Craig was conspiring with Joana and Mason about the tragedy that occurred to my parents, the corporation, and what transpired with me; yet, now that I witness them fighting, I am unsure of what to believe or how to proceed.
