Protecting his sister
"HEY, Daniela. Have you met our new transfer classmate?" Rose asked her playmate in a whisper. They are in grade one now and Rose is more talkative than Daniela.
Daniela shook her head. She was not there yesterday because she did not want to go to school, she was upset with her father. She was upset because she couldn't be a flower girl at her own parents' wedding.
"How would she know? She doesn't even know that her parents aren't married yet, so how would she be aware of something new from school?" A girl arrogantly interrupted the two.
Suddenly, Daniela's eyes were filled with tears because of her classmate's bullying. They never get along well because she is smarter than her.
"What?!" Rose's voice grew louder and she looked at the both of them. "How did she become your Mommy if she isn't married to your daddy yet?"
Daniela scratched her forehead because of her friend's question. Rose is not really good at understanding, thus she was confused about her parents' situation.
"You're so stupid, of course, because they don't love each other! It means, Daniela was just the result of a mistake!" Trisha said proudly and was happy because Daniela looked like she was going to cry.
"That's not true!" Daniela angrily approached Trisha to push her while crying.
Trisha quickly moved away from her enemy and some in the class laugh as she lost her balance and fell.
Sean's eyes narrowed as he reached the scene where his sister was being laughed at. He entered the classroom with big steps and approached Daniela.
"Who did this to you?"
Everyone stopped laughing when they saw what their new classmate had done. They only met him yesterday, but they know they can't bully him. His eyes are sharp and even though they have the same age, he has a bigger body than any of them.
Tears welled up in Daniela's eyes as she looked at the boy who had helped her to stand up. When she saw his face, her sobs were temporarily trapped in her throat.
"Why are you crying? Who pushed you?" Sean asked his sister—that fact only he knew.
"I didn't push her! She was just limp and an illegitimate child, so she fell!" Trisha confesses to Sean with her head held high and tries to show off so she could be friends with him.
Daniela sobbed again and was embarrassed in front of the new transfer boy.
Rose just stared at Daniela and the boy. Now that the two are side by side, she can see the similarity of their faces.
"That's not true! Even though my parents aren't married, they love each other. Unlike yours, your sister's mother is different!" Daniela shouted back at Trisha and she suddenly became brave because she saw the new transfer to their school as her ally.
"No…!" With eyes full of anger, Trisha rushed to Daniela. "Take back what you said!"
Daniela was suddenly frightened by the visible anger on Trisha's face. But before she could get close to her, the boy stood between them.
"Don't you dare touch her again!"
Trisha took a step back when she saw Sean angry. She did not expect him to be on Daniela's side even though he doesn't know her yet at all.
"She's a loser! I'm the one you should be friends with." Trisha said boldly.
"I don't want to be your friend, so, get lost!"
Everyone remained silent and just looked around at the three kids fighting in front of them. The girls admire Sean. And the boys have different feelings for Sean. Some want to be his friend because he's cool. Others judged him as an arrogant kid because he immediately got the heart of the two girls who they wanted to be close to.
"You'll regret why she's the one you chose to be friends with!" Trisha rolled her eyes at Sean before glaring at Daniela.
"Thank you for defending me." A dimple appeared on Daniela's cheek as she stared at her new friend.
"Don't cry when someone fights with you. Don't worry, Brother is here to defend you."
"Brother?" Daniela asked in confusion.
"From now on, I'm your Big Brother Sean." Sean smiled at her.
"You're indeed like siblings because you look alike." Rose said, amused.
Sean quickly puts on his big glasses. He forgot to wear it earlier to hide his eyes.
Daniela made a face as she glanced at her new friend's face. Rose was right, they look alike, so she was stunned earlier when she first saw him.
"You really should get along, both losers!" Trisha turned around angrily and left the group.
"Ignore her, come here and sit next to me so that I can always protect you from bad kids like her." Sean pulled his sister's chair and brought it next to his chair.
Daniela was happy with her new friend. She just ignored it, even though many noticed that they looked alike. Even their teacher noticed that she looked like Sean. He also became talkative and their topic was about their mothers.
"My Mommy is the best and she's super loving." Sean bragged about his mother to Daniela.
Daniela listens intently to her new friend and she calls him her older brother. They are currently having break time and since then, he hasn't separated from her, so Trisha is even more jealous of her.
"How about your dad?" Daniela asked Sean, her hands on her cheek.
"My daddy?" Sean thought for a while, "I think he's a good person and loving too."
"Huh? Why aren't you sure? Where is he?" Daniela asked in confusion.
"There's a bad woman who wants to kill my mom and she stole our dad."
"Our daddy?" Daniela asked again, puzzled.
"I have a twin sister," Sean said so as not to confuse her.
"Oh!" Daniela's eyes widened and she looked around.
"But she was also taken by the bad woman and pretended she was her own child."
Daniela felt sorry for him and she felt his anger at the female abductor. If she is the one in his position, she will feel the same way.
"Only you know this and you have to promise me that you won't tell anyone else about it. No one else can know because that woman might find out that my mother is still alive. My sister will be in danger, so I'll just secretly watch over her for now." Sean earnestly told Daniela as he watched her closely.
"Uhm!" Daniela closed her mouth and nodded while raising her right hand as an oath that she would keep her promise.
"Specially to your mom, don't mention anything about me."
"Huh? Why?" Daniela didn't get it again.
"Just promise me."
Daniela just followed Sean's wishes so that he wouldn't get mad at her. "But can I invite you home and introduce you to my parents?"
"You can, but not yet."
Daniela smiled at Sean's answer. She loves him as a friend and as an older brother as well.
Steven decided to pick his daughter up himself to make up with her because he knew she was still upset. When he got out of the car, the parents of other children who were there were looking at him.
"Do you want to come with me? I'll send you to your house too, if no one comes to pick you up." Daniela offers to Sean as they walk out of the classroom.
"Thanks, but my grandpa will pick me up." Sean refuses.
Daniela couldn't answer her friend when she saw the man walking closer to where they were. "Daddy!"
Sean's gazes followed his sister who ran toward the person she called father. He was amused because she suddenly forgot about him and they weren't even able to say goodbye. He suddenly felt sad when he saw their father in person for the first time. But he was happy for his sister because she looks so happy with the man.
"Daddy, let me introduce you to my new friend and brother!" Daniela cheerfully pulled one of her father's hands while her other hand pointed toward Sean's direction.
Steven looked at the kid his daughter was pointing at. But he quickly turned around and walked away from them. He looked like an adult when he walks and even has one of his hands on his shorts. And he raised his other hand and waved goodbye to his daughter. He didn't bother to look at them, thus he could see the sadness on his daughter's face.
"Maybe he's upset with me now because I suddenly left him, Daddy."
Steven picked up his daughter and walked to his car. "You will see each other tomorrow anyway, so don't be sad."
Daniela pouted and she was still not convinced by what her father said. She sulked even more when she remembered Trisha's bullying of her earlier.
"He saved me when Trisha was bullying me." She said to her father.
Steven made his daughter sit properly in the car seat first and let her talk about what had happened.
"I hate Trisha! Daddy, what is an illegitimate child?"
Steven turned violently. "Why did you ask that?"
"Trisha said, I was an illegitimate child because you and mommy aren't married."
Tony, who was quietly driving the car, caught a glimpse of the child from the front mirror. He felt sorry for her when he saw the forming tears in her eyes.
"That is not true." Steven spoke calmly to the child. He did not expect that his status with Danica would affect his daughter. The kid who fought with her probably saw the news about the postponement of his marriage with Danica.
"She said, I was the result of a mistake and you and Mommy don't love each other so you're not married yet." Tears welled up in Daniela's eyes.
Steven sighed violently and did not know how to explain everything to his daughter. He asked to stop the car and moved to the back to sit next to the child.
"When you grow up, you'll understand everything. Right now, don't believe what you hear. We love you, okay?"
Daniela sniffed and nodded as she hugged her father tightly. Suddenly, she raised her head when she remembered her new friend. "You have the same line."
"What?" Steven asked her confusedly.
"Sean said, I'm still young, so I don't understand everything yet. So I should ignore Trisha's teasing of me and the important thing is that you love me."
Steven raised his eyebrows and felt interested in the kid his daughter was referring to. Not only is his behaviour adult-like, but his words are also matured.
