Critical condition
After a hot scene between her and the young man, Nicole suddenly felt embarrassed. Fortunately, he was no longer with her because he suddenly remembered that he had a meeting. She should also be at the meeting, but he told her not to go. He strictly instructed her not to leave his office before he left earlier.
"Ugh, what did you do, Nicole?" She talked to herself while fixing her messy hair.
It would be more difficult for her now to distance herself from the young man because of what happened. The more she couldn't convince him to marry Danica. When she remembered what could possibly be the consequence, she quickly stood up and left Steven's office. She needed to buy pills and drink. She didn't want the mistake to result into something and it shouldn't be. She will see her third child anytime soon.
Danica's eyes were sharp as she followed Nicole. She knew she had been in Steven's office and she didn't want to think about what might have happened between the two. When the elevator Nicole entered closed, she immediately called Brando.
"How's your job going?"
"My underling is following him now, Ma'am." Brando replied from the other line.
"Good! I want your work to be clean and don't fail this time!" Danica ordered before cutting the call.
Kanor felt like he had a problem with the car he was driving. When he noticed the vehicle following him, he tried to stop the car in a crowded place. But he couldn't control it and the car sped up on its own.
"Shit!" Kanor was starting to panic and he saw the traffic light ahead. He pressed the car horn several times to make the cars in front go aside.
He could no longer control the speed of the car, so he had no choice but to hit it on a pole so that no innocent person would be affected. When he turned the steering wheel to the left, he jumped out of the car.
Nicole almost fainted when she heard what had happened to her foster father. Gaven was already at the hospital and she just followed. She did not know what had happened and why he had an accident when he was a careful driver.
When Nicole arrived at the hospital, the police were already there. According to the investigation, the car's break wire was cut. She and Gaven both thought someone had sabotaged the car. Kanor's condition was critical, Nicole couldn't stop crying. He jumped far away from the car as its front was crushed when it hit the large pole.
"Mr. Twartz, the CCTV has captured the accident that happened to your father. If you can, come with us and watch." Said the police that just arrived.
Nicole stayed at the hospital to wait for her foster father who was still in the operating room.
When they played the footage, Gaven was shocked by what he saw. It had captured how his father jumped out of the car. But what held his breath even more while watching the video was the arrival of a motorcycle. The video clearly showed his father could still get up, but was hit by the motorcycle. That was how his head was hit, and he was currently in a critical condition.
"We are tracing the vehicle, but it does not have a plate number," said the officer in charge of the case.
"Do everything you can to find that bastard! I will pay no matter how much it would take to catch the culprit!" Gaven clenched his fist.
Nicole felt more upset when Gaven reported about the CCTV footage to her. "It's all my fault. I'm sure it's because of me that Dad's life is in danger!"
"You're not at fault, so don't blame yourself." Gaven hugged her tightly. His father had been transferred to the ICU and was still in critical condition.
"I'm scared, what if they try to kill you too? Where else will I lean on when Dad is gone?"
Gaven sighed deeply and sadly hugged the woman. His father's phone was missing and he thought it was taken by the culprit.
"Nicole, are you okay?" Steven took big steps to approach her. He immediately grabbed her from Gaven's arm.
"Steven, I'm fine." She tried to escape from his grasp, but he didn't want to let go.
"I need to tighten the security for you and Sean."
"I've already hired someone to watch over Nicole." Gaven said seriously.
"Thank you, but she and our son are my obligation, so I will take care of them."
Nicole felt as if there was no space in the place because of the two men who were staring each other down. Steven also didn't want to let go of her, as if he was afraid that someone would suddenly pull her away from him.
"Nicole is not included in your obligation, Mr. Scout. Not because my father is in critical condition that you can hold Nicole by the neck. I will remind you that you are only the father of the twins."
Steven clenched his fist and glared back at Gaven. If he hadn't just thought of Kanor, he would have surely beat him up.
"Uh, Steven, it's better that you take care of Sean first. Gaven needs me here and I ask you to take care of him for now."
"I've already ordered someone to pick him up and sent him to the mansion. You also need to rest and I won't leave you here."
Nicole could do nothing about what he wanted to happen. Nicole looked at Gaven. She could clearly see the clenching of his jaw and she knew he didn't like Steven's presence. She spent a few more hours before deciding to leave with Steven. Gaven also told her to go home because he was worried about Sean.
"I hope they are fine in your house now that the person who wants to ruin Nicole's life is active again."
"I'll take care of them. Be careful and I've also added a man to watch over your father."
Gaven sighed, he wanted to refuse Steven's offer, but Nicole was looking at him pleadingly. He approached her and hugged her. "Call me and don't be too carefree there."
Nicole nodded at Gaven with her mouth closed. She had to go with Steven to their mansion because Sean was there. She was scared because Danica was just there. She knew that she was the one who did all these bad things to her and her loved ones.
"Looks like you've enjoyed living in this house." Danica greeted Nicole insultingly.
Nicole turned violently to her. "It's your fault why Sean and I are staying here temporarily!"
"Don't blame me for your misfortunes. If the person who cares about you dies, it's your fault."
"You're so inhuman! Your conscience is so dark! If you hurt another one of my loved ones, I will never forgive you!"
"Ouch! What's wrong with you? Why are you like that to me? I just want to help you regain your memories."
Nicole was suddenly confused by what Danica was doing. She didn't push her, but she knocked herself down and looked as if she was oppressed.
"You bitch! Even though you have amnesia, you're still as evil!" Rita scolded Nicole and quickly helped Danica to her feet.
"I did nothing to her."
"And what do you want me to think, huh? That Danica hurt herself?" Rita felt even more angry with the woman.
Nicole shook her head and felt sad for Rita. She felt sorry for her because Danica had been making a fool out of her for a long time.
"What's going on here?" Steven asked as he approached them.
"Steven, I'm sorry if I can't grant your request. Nicole doesn't want me to approach her because she thinks I'm a stealer." Danica said sadly as she rubbed her elbow that hit the table earlier.
Steven's forehead furrowed as his gaze shifted between Nicole and Danica. Danica's elbow was red because Nicole allegedly pushed her.
"Brother, please help Danica. She may have a broken bone in her elbow."
Nicole frowned when she saw that he was disappointed with her. He did not even ask and he obviously believed in Danica's drama.
"Let's talk later," Steven said to Nicole before escorting Danica out of Nicole's room.
"Are you really that heartless? Why are you able to hurt Danica despite the kindness she shows you?" Rita asked Nicole intensely when they were the only ones left in the room.
"How well do you know Danica to believe everything she says?"
"And why did you ask that?" She asked Nicole aloofly.
"Because you've become blind to the truth. You easily believe everything Danica says." A bitter smile flashed on her lips.
"How dare you question Danica's personality in front of me? I know her better than you—"
"Because she saved your life when you were young?"
"How did you know?" Rita's eyes widened and looked doubtfully at Nicole.
"I'm glad you didn't forget, Tata."
Instead of being surprised because Nicole knew it, she got even angrier. "So Danica was right when she said that you're just pretending to have amnesia. And I'm not even surprised if you know anything about my past because like Danica said, she didn't hide anything from you."
"Didn't you think that everything Danica told you could be the opposite?"
Rita knit her brows and she stared at Nicole's face. There was a deep sadness on her face and she felt hesitant for some reason.
"Are you saying that Danica is a fake?"
"I know you're smart. I'm getting tired of pretending in front of you. I want to end this because some lives are at stake."
"Huh, and you want me to believe you in your lie? You may have fooled Grandma and Brother, but not me!" She sneered angrily, but she looked determined to stand up for everything she'd said.
"Is it enough for me to admit I'm not amnesiac to have your time to listen?"
Rita stopped in her tracks and turned to Nicole. She was suddenly nervous about what she would say next.
"Ever since I got back, I investigated how Danica became part of your family. I don't know how Danica found you, but I trusted her like you do. Even my parents only believed in her." Nicole said and her face showed extreme sadness.
"H-How can I believe what you're saying?" Rita couldn't help but stammer because she was feeling mixed nervousness and disbelief.
"Danica knew everything that happened to us back then on the island, except for one thing we promised each other to keep as a secret between us."
Rita felt like cold water was poured on her when she remembered what Nicole had said. Her eyes widened as she looked at Nicole. She recalled everything that had happened before. Even the memory of the first day she met Danica came back to her min
