I drifted along and listened to the others talking about how beautiful they thought it was here.
Hours must have passed as we romped around here in the sea and still it didn't seem enough to me. "Let's go slowly," Jayden pulled me out of my thoughts, whereupon I kissed my mate on the cheek and then walked back to the beach with my best friend.
"I'm really glad we met her," he said, drying himself off. I knew he meant it because he was the only one in my life who had always seen the good in me and always wanted me to be happy too. "Me too," I replied, looking at Josephine, who was still standing in the water with Chiara and letting the waves affect her body.
"Well then, let's see if they can do that with the fire until we get back." He ran ahead of me and little by little we got further and further away from the beach to arrive at some small shops as it slowly got darker.
It was an odd feeling seeing other people again after days of just lounging around in trailers or abandoned places, and I was immediately struck by the impact Jayden had on women.
As soon as we entered a shop, I saw the sparkle in the eyes of the small, blond saleswoman who just stared at Jayden and inconspicuously undid two buttons of her blouse. I had to shake my head and thought about the time before Chiara and Josephine existed. Surely we would have made a bet which one of us would bang her that night and in most cases he won those bets.
But that time was behind us and I didn't miss it a bit. I was happier than ever and Jayden was like a different person since Chiara came along. I would have loved to tell him about the pregnancy, but it was Chiara's job and I didn't want to get involved under any circumstances, even though it was difficult for me to hide something like that from him.
"Do you need anything else?" He turned to me and gave me a questioning look while all I saw in the basket he was holding was alcohol. I widened my eyes in shock and thought of Chiara, who certainly never wanted to drink anything, and then looked around the store. "I need water," I said, grabbing two bottles from the shelf behind me. I ignored his confused looks and then followed him to the counter where the blonde started playing with her hair nervously.
"Is someone throwing a party today?" she asked, scanning the items without taking her eyes off Jayden, who neither answered nor looked down at her. He rummaged in his wallet and only looked at her when she named the price. "That's right," he gave her a few cents too much and then put everything in two bags while the blonde leaned forward to show an extra cleavage.
"Bye," he said so dryly and dismissively that I even felt a little sorry for the little one, but I followed him out of the shop laughing and heard her disappointed sigh behind us.
"You've really changed," I grinned at him as we walked back to the beach, and he gave me a confused look. "What do you mean?" "You don't even notice anymore when a woman does everything to get your attention."
He laughed and winked at me playfully. "I know about the buttons on her blouse and I didn't miss her flirting either, but I no longer need this confirmation from women, after all I have the most beautiful of all by my side." He smiled to himself and I noticed that he even increased his walking pace to be faster with his companion.
As soon as we left the shops and strolled over the hill, we saw the huge campfire from afar, which our girls had managed really well. "We're really lucky," Jayden laughed and then looked over at me with his ice blue eyes. "We should never piss them off. Women who can make fire are the most dangerous."
We laughed heartily and I was kind of glad to have just spent time with him for a while like I used to, but I was even happier when I saw my mate waving from afar, looking so beautiful next to the fire, that it took my breath away again.
Chiara had lent me one of her summer dresses, which with its light blue color went perfectly with my brown eyes. She herself put on a white one, and then we waited for our companions by the fire.
Darkness descended upon us while the warmth and crackle of the fire gave me a sense of peace. Chiara sat down on her big towel, but I stopped and watched until I saw the boys and started waving wildly in front of friends.
"Somebody missed me," Ethan smiled, kissing my addicted lips lovingly. "Could be." I broke away from him, giggling, and sat on our large towel while Jayden dispensed drinks and surveyed the fire.
"You did well," he praised us and then sat down across from me next to Chiara while Ethan sat down next to me.
"So what are we toasting to?" Jayden asked, handing everyone a mug. "To unbuttoned blouses and a little tip," Ethan suddenly laughed out loud and made Jayden growl.
"To fate," I raised my mug and waited for the others to clink glasses with me, but Chiara looked down dejectedly and nervously stuck her feet in the sand in front of her.
"What's going on?" Jayden asked her, causing her to glance at Ethan and then back down. "I don't feel like drinking alcohol. Water is enough for me." "Oh come on sweetie. A glass to toast. Take a look around. Look at the fire, we've got to toast to that."
Jayden held out his glass and looked at her expectantly, but she shook her head and took a deep breath. "Can't you accept no?!", she suddenly hissed at him and stood up angrily. "What's the matter with you?" Jayden asked, also getting up to block her way.
"I'm tired! I want to sleep! Mind?" "Chiara, that's enough!" "Oho, old Jayden again!" "Are you serious? I don't know what's going on!"
"She's pregnant," Ethan suddenly blurted out, raising his glass to smile at the others. "Cheers."
Silence... uncomfortable, all-encompassing silence surrounded us until Jayden reached out and took her hand. "Is that correct?" "Yes," Chiara breathed and immediately afterwards Jayden knelt down in front of her and put his hands on her stomach. "Hello little darling," he whispered and Chiara just beamed with happiness.
"That thing doesn't have ears yet," Ethan said inappropriately, causing even me to glare at him. "Call my baby a thing again," Chiara warned him, placing her hands on Jayden's, which were still resting on her stomach.
"Your uncle is a complete idiot, but you get used to him," she smiled and Jayden got up to take the lucky one in his arms. "I'm going to disappear into the trailer with the mother of my child and if you don't want to see the fireworks right away, I would advise you to disappear."
"Let's get out of here quickly." Ethan got up and helped me to my feet, grabbing another towel and a bottle and walking me down the beach. "Did she tell you that this afternoon?" I asked him, to which he nodded and I caught a small smile on his lips. "Yes and I didn't want the two of them to fight any more. You keep hearing that this isn't good for the baby." He kept surprising me. There were so many facets to him that I didn't know and I couldn't wait any longer to show him how much I wanted him.
I just stood there and let the dress slide down my shoulders so I was only in my underwear and then removed those as well so the moonlight was the only thing showing on my naked body.
"Josephine?" Ethan asked, turning and standing frozen at the sight of me as I held out my hand and winked. "Come here," I breathed and he dropped the towel and bottle onto the sand to pull me tight to his chest.
