Chapter 38: We Will Make It

“Doctor Hines, will she be alright to come home today?” I ask him quietly while concerned that something else might happen.

The only problem with this whole scenario is the last couple of days while she was in the hospital room, there have been threats on her life and the pups. So, being scared to lose her, I stayed here at her side to make sure that no one would even come near her. It worked for the most part except last night a woman came in disguised as a nurse. Before I knew it, she was on Arabella and tried to pump something into her veins.

Dr. Hines, turns around with a grin on her face and asks jokingly, “Why? You can’t wait to get her back so you can be alone with her again, can you?” He starts to chuckle, but then he sees the stern look on my face and thinks twice about it before continuing. “Look, she will be alright assuming there are no more death threats or anyone who gets near her. If this keeps up, you are just going to have to always have a security detail on her. The stress this is all causing her is not good for any of them. Do you understand?”

I nod and then run my fingers through my hair again before sighing and then asking, “So, when can I get her out of here then? I will arrange for someone to be on the bedroom door 24/7 and I will personally bring her anything she needs, including her meals. That way no one can get to her without going through me.”

“That will do it, she will be ready in about fifteen minutes. In the meantime, go get it ready for when she gets there. I will be watching her like a hawk till you return.”

Nodding again, I hurry along back to the castle where the security guards have already gotten the word. They all stand in front of me as I begin to lecture them and tell every one of them, “You are not to let anyone near these doors, even if it is someone you recognize. If someone shows up that isn’t on this team, then they don’t get access to either of us. One of you may call me, but that is it. Otherwise, when I am in the bedroom with her or she is here alone, no one gets in.” The seriousness in my voice is evident when they don’t even raise any questions and just stand there nodding at me before I head back to the hospital to fetch Arabella.

The minute I step foot in the doors, I sense something is wrong. I immediately scan the area for anyone out of the ordinary and when I don’t see the doctor or Arabella, I become panicked and start to yell for her, “Arabella, where are you?”

Dr. Hines rushes out of the backroom and then states, “She is back here. I saw someone come in that I didn’t recognize, and he looked suspicious, so I moved her out of the way till you returned. When the man didn’t see her anywhere, he left. Thank goodness you are back. Take her and protect her with your life. The fate of the kingdom rests in your hands now.” The worry on his face is very evident when I see his forehead crease before he produces a fake smile and says, “Besides, she has been asking for you nonstop and looks like she needs some good old snuggling.”

I smile and then walk in back with him to a room off the main corridor and further back than most of them. Once he opens the door, I hear my Arabella state, “I didn’t know if you were going to come back.”

The sadness in her eyes makes me want to just collect her right now and kiss her silly, but with the doctor there, I am forced to restrain myself for the moment. After all, I should at least wait till we get back to the safety of our room, where I can devour her sweet lips softly and take my time. Just thinking about it drives me wild and sends a message to my cock to thicken. Feeling it jerk in my pants as it grows rapidly, I am reminding that we still have someone out there trying to kill Arabella and the pups if not all of us.

Quickly, I scoop her up and carry her out to the car. Before opening the door and placing her inside, I see something moving quickly beside me and I feel a quick jab to the ribs. It almost makes me drop her, but instead I swing her around and use the momentum to throw the man off balance and knock him clear of us.

Hurrying to put her down on the seat and shutting the door, I almost do not see the man swipe at me with his claws. Dodging just in time, I slam her door shut and then yell, “Lock it now!” Before turning and feeling my claws come out.

I slash at the man about 2 inches above his head, because he is really short, but stout and quicker than I had originally suspected. When I do not connect, I am confused, but then lash out again and connect this time with his head. Thinking that “This is almost too easy.” I shake my head when I rip his throat out and blood sprays everywhere.

No need for my wolf this time, or so I think, until I turn around and someone is standing next to Arabella with a sick look on her face. She smiles before breaking the car window and wrapping her fingers around Arabella’s fragile neck. Seeing this, my blood boils and my wolf takes over before she manages to rip her throat out.

Instead, my wolf lunges forward in record speed and rips her head off before she can even realize what has just happened. Bright red blood sprays all over the top of the car and on Arabella. Seeing this she screams a blood curdling scream. She must see the wolf in my eyes, because she stares at me now so scared, that I am sure she will never be able to trust me again.

Before he returns my control to me, he throws his head back and howls at the moon and then stares at her with his golden eyes hungrily. At that moment, I can see the sheer terror in her eyes, and it makes me worried. Will she trust me again now? Or will she think I am going to murder her in the night or eat her? After all of this, I am beginning to wonder if I am the Big Bad Wolf, she is so scared of.

Once I return her to the castle and carry her up to the room, I see the looks on all the security team’s faces, when they see us, both covered in fresh blood that isn’t ours.
