Chapter 42
Derek’s POV
.
Six weeks later!!!
.
I started at my beautiful mate, who was sleeping peacefully. Just two to three weeks more, our pup and the next Alpha of the pack would be in our arms. But before that, she needed to rest as much as she could because, as per the doctor, she had complications in her pregnancy.
And after learning that everyone in the family never failed to enlighten her mood and kept her away from the pack duties as much as we were trying our best not to take any stress because the problem of high blood pressure could create a lot of difficulties. In the doctor’s language, ‘high blood pressure is associated with a higher risk of many other complications, like preeclampsia. It puts you at a higher risk of having a baby well before your due date. It also increases your risk of having a small baby.’ This is called preterm delivery.
She had waited for this moment for this long; if anything went wrong with the pup, I had no idea what would happen next. As per the pup, he was doing great.
Yes! It’s a boy.
Though Scar wanted a baby sister after knowing that she would be blessed with a baby brother, she was over the moon and asked for one more sibling, hoping to be her baby sister. Everyone laughed at her request because there was still some time for the arrival of the little one, and she was asking for one more.
Talking about Scar, Both Stacey and I announced about her identity and that we had adopted her as our pup in the pack, and everyone was okay with that, or maybe some of them acted like they were okay with that. I knew that as long as she was a kid, no one would have an issue with her, but I doubt that the things would be identical for her after she grew old. After all, even a half-vampire was not allowed to stay in a pack. She would have to move out from her.
And there was a time in all these, but a part of me was already prepared for this. Because I knew that one day, Scarlett would have to move from pack to know about her, figure out her identity, how she landed here, and many more things. Seeing her and how curious she was from an early age, she would move out from here on her own.
I slowly made my way to her swollen feet and ankles so that I could give a message over there, and she would feel a little better. Since whatever was happening to her was not a disease, neither Alicia nor Scarlett could help.
But before I could have near her feet, my phone vibrated. I quickly picked it up and saw Sr. Scarlett’s father was calling me!
What happened this early in the morning?
Blood drained from my face when I realized what it could be. I ran out of the room to receive the call.
“Hello, Richard”
******
“Mom, dad. Just take care of Stacey. I will be back soon.”
“Where are you running like this as if fire caught your tail?”
“It’s Scarlett.”
“Is she fine?” she asked, but I didn’t answer her because I was sure she was smart enough to make up for my silence.
A drive like a maniac reached the hospital and ran toward the area where Scarlett was admitted. By the time I got near the room, I had found her parents crying bitterly, holding each other.
I wanted to go inside and check on her, but Rex had already sensed that there was only one person who was alive inside, that rotten food.
“Derek!!” Dory saw him and ran into my arms, crying non-stop. I hugged her back, giving her the comfort Scarlett had expected me to give to her parents when she would be gone as a friend, while I opened my other arm for Richard, and even that older man hugged me.
I couldn’t understand the parents’ pain when they lost their pup while still alive. Though my daughter was not my own, if anything had happened to her, then a part of me would die. Just a mere thought of that fact send a chill into my veins.
I shook my head, preventing myself from thinking all this rubbish. That day, I stayed with her parents, who were acting as a corpse, seeing the dead body of her young daughter in front of them. Talking about that rotten food, he looked like a lost piece of shit.
Since it was raining like dogs and cats, only a few people were at her funeral.
‘I can’t believe you.’ I heard Stacey’s word in my mind. Unlike others, she didn’t need permission to mind link me because she was my mate, while in other cases, I feel something bugging my mind whenever someone tries to mind link me.
Immediately I was hit by her strong smell. I found her hopping out of the car with her big baby bump, and my daughter was holding her hand by her side. Not to forget, even mom and dad were with them. Mom gave an apologetic smile for not being able to hide this news from Stacey.
It was not that I wanted to hide anything from Stacey. It was just that I didn’t want to break any news to her, which would cause stress on her. Now that Scarlett’s parents already knew about the werewolf, I was not scared to see Stacey’s big baby bump in just two and a half months.
“Stacey, what…”, My voice died in my throat when I saw glaring at me. Never mess with your wife and not to forget, and never mess with your wife when she was pregnant.
“Scarlett was my friend too, Derek. I know we were not that close, but at the same time, we were not even enemies.”, She snapped.
Mom and dad walked toward Dory and Richard to comfort them, and even Scarlett accompanied them so that she could cheer them. She knew it was difficult in this situation, but I was confident that my daughter would find some way. I was more worried about that rotten food because he was releasing a dangerous aura near him and his silence was no less than the silence before the storm.
“You should talk to him.”, Stacey said, looking at Aaron.
“In this mood? No thanks.” I quickly rejected her idea.
“What mood? He is sad and broken.”
“He is sad. He is broken. Agree. True. But along with that, he is pissed and furious, which no one can see. I know deep down that man is planning and plotting to kill everyone who is the reason behind his mate’s death.”
“So, you mean to say that he is planning and plotting against Meningioma?” Stacey asked sarcastically.
“Well, his mate didn’t die because of Meningioma. A werewolf has killed her.” I corrected her on which her eyes widened in shock. “Now, I’m worried who had done this because whoever had brought that rotten food back to where he was a long time ago,” I said, looking at Aaron. “He is not just some Aaron, Stacey. He is Aaron Rodney Baccarin, previously known as Beast.”
“I have heard about him from Dad. He used to be a pain in the ass long ago.”, Stacey muttered. “By the way, whatever dad had said was true about him?”
“If you meant to ask that, he used to be the leader of hunters, highly trained to kill all types of supernatural creatures. Then yes! On his eighteen birthday, he shifted into a werewolf, then that too, yes! Then his people locked him up and tortured him like an animal, trying various types of experiments on him, then that was also yes! Those experiments worked on him in both good and bad ways, making him more strong than any creature who couldn’t be killed in any way, but at the same, he couldn’t shift. Then, even that news is also YES. Once he got stronger enough to escape from there, he killed all his hunter’s friends, relatives, and family, who treated him like an experiment object. Then, even that news is also YES. Once he entered our world, not knowing what he was, everyone like us tried to kill him and capture him, but he killed everyone. While the packs treated him like a threat, the rouges took him as a boon and accepted him whole heartily, and after that, he had been a pain in the ass for all packs, killing and wiping numerous groups on the order of rouge’s Alpha.
And now, he was thinking of becoming a good guy, and a werewolf killed his mate.”
“I feel so bad for him.”, Stacey muttered, looking at Aaron. “I mean, he lost only ray of hope he had in his life.”
“You should be worried about us. Because once he is over this funeral, this Beast will be loose free. I wonder who is that stupid who thinks of killing Scarlett.”, I muttered, running fingers in my hair. If he would go back to the rouge group and trust whatever they would say, we were finished. He wouldn’t batt his eyelash before wiping the remaining packs. He was at this stage of life when he could be misleading easily.
My thoughts were interrupted when I heard my daughter’s voice. “Hey, don’t be sad. Even I’m Scarlett. You can talk to me and share whatever is going on in your mind. I promise that I will hear you out.”, She said, holding his hand.
My eyes narrowed, finding her holding some male’s hand. I was about to drag that little back to me when Stacey’s had my arms.
“Stay here. After talking with our daughter, he will calm down or something. Moreover, she is great at distracting anyone’s mind and changing mood. Let the kid do her work.”
