Seven Months Later
"Alright everyone, you need to have this assignment turned in by tonight okay? If you have any questions then please feel free to email me, and I will respond as soon as possible. Class dismissed." My students immediately got up and packed them and left class.
"Ms. Cane?"
"Yes?" I turned and I instantly smiled when I saw who it was.
"Mr. Roberts, how are you this afternoon?" I asked him as he continued to walk in.
"Oh you know, same old, same old. What are you wanting to eat for lunch?" He leaned against the desk in the front row and smirked at me.
"I already told you, Teddy, I'm not dating right now."
I started getting my coursework ready for the next class. But he just sat there staring at me.
"It's just lunch." I hated to admit the offer was tempting but I couldn't say yes. There was no way I could say yes.
"Maybe another time." I gave him a soft smile and he gave up and walked out of the classroom. I mean he was a handsome man, and he was nice and caring he was all the things that I could ask for. But I told myself moving here that I was going to focus on myself and put love on the back burner.
After I left the castle I moved to town and become a substitute teacher at one of the High Schools here. I got an apartment and a car, that was the only thing that I used Damon's card for. Then after that, I cut it up threw it away, and made my own living. Honestly, this life felt right for me, I was happy. I even got a dog. I was truly happy, and finally at peace.
I had barely spoken to anyone back at the packhouse, But I didn't want to, either way, I put all of that behind me. The only information I got about what was going on was through the news and through what my mother would tell me.
Apparently, Tyler had some giant plan in trying to win the crown back. Layla and Trey led the team in defeating the rogues and fighting him off. The pack is officially safe. Yet there was no word of when Damon was coming back or if he was coming back. I really didn't want to care, but part of me still did.
It was finally the end of the day and I was headed back to my apartment to cook dinner. Apparently, my roommate was inviting people over for dinner and just told me. I walked into the house and she was playing loud music and running around like a maniac. I heard four feet running towards me and I looked down and I saw the love of my life.
"Hello, there baby." I picked up my dog and immediately showered him in kisses.
"How was your day, puppy?"
"Put the dog down and get ready! We don't have time!" Sarah yelled at me as she continued to run back and forth.
"Okay, what's going on? Aren't we cooking?" I asked her confused and setting down Romeo.
"Yeah we were, and then we got invited on a double date so you need to get dressed."
"A double what? No. Sarah, I told you that I'm not dating." I huffed in annoyance and walked to my room.
I met Sarah my second day being in the city, and she was so nice and she offered me her extra room. She introduced me to all of her friends and took me out. Honestly made me feel so welcomed. I was so appreciative of her.
"It's not for you. It's for me. He said he would only go if I brought a friend along. Apparently, his buddy is back from a trip and wanted to hang out with him. So the only way we could keep our plans is if he joined and I bring someone."
Sarah burst into my room and crossed her arms.
"You've heard me talk about him so many times. We've been wanting to hang out for weeks. Just please come." She was begging me at this point.
"Is he your mate?" I questioned her.
"Oh come on. You know I don't believe in that. And you said you didn't either. So don't give me that crap." I laughed at her rolled my eyes.
It was crazy how wolves in the real world didn't put much pressure on finding mates. Especially the older they got. Sarah was twenty-six and there was still no sign of her mate. That's how it is for normal people, it's crazy how different life is on the other side.
"Okay fine. Let me get dressed. Where are we going?" I got up and walked to the closet and went through all the dresses that I had.
"Some fancy Italian place. I don't know. But we have to leave in an hour. And do something with your hair. You've been really lazy lately." I looked in the mirror and I guess she was right. The past few days I hadn't wanted to deal with my curls at all.
"I'll let that slide this once!" I yelled back at her and looked out my room door to see her flicking me off.
Sarah was a gorgeous she-wolf. Had long bright strawberry blonde hair and beautiful green eyes. She had beautiful freckles all over her face. She was the prettiest person I had ever seen. It was crazy how she was still mate-less all this time. But I guess since she didn't believe it, she wouldn't find it.
I decided on a long, dark green, body-con dress that had a slit running up the side of the leg. It was a spaghetti strap and a low back. I had just gotten it, it was beautiful. I just hope no one I knew sees me. Once I was ready I walked out to the living room and Sarah was there adding her final touches.
"I honestly think you're going to like this guy."
"Sarah," I said sternly.
"I know. I'm just saying that this could be an opportunity for you to put yourself out there again. Look I know you had that really bad situation with your ex and best friend. And then you had that really bad drunken hook up that you regret-"
"Sarah!" I yelled.
"All I'm saying is that was months ago! You have to forgive yourself and move on. If your ex isn't back for you now, he isn't coming back ever."
"Okay, I get. You think I'm hopeless." I sighed in annoyance. Sarah turned to me and grabbed my hands and pulled me to her.
"No, I don't okay? I love the fact that you are hopelessly romantic. That you thought mates lived these happily ever after fantasies. You're optimistic. I like that about you. You just have to start doing things for yourself. So what you slept with a random? Okay? Did he really think you were going to wait until he was ready for you? No. You are too hot to wait for a man Charlie. You deserve to be chased after. And if he can't chase you, then he's not for you. So for dinner tonight have fun, and then tomorrow maybe finally take Mr. Roberts up on his offer for lunch."
"How did you know about that?" I asked her as I laughed.
"Like you rejecting him yet again? Because you didn't come in here gushing about having hot sex with a teacher in the custodial closet."
"Oh Sarah, come one. Please" I couldn't but laugh at her and her boldness.
"Okay, let's go before we're late."
•••••
I don't know why but when we pulled up at the restaurant I was filled with so many nerves.
"Aren't guys supposed to pick you up for dates?" I asked her.
"Are you stuck in the ice ages or what? Men are creeps these days, you never know what's going to happen. Us girls have to watch out for ourselves now."
We go to the restaurant and there were hundreds of people waiting outside the restaurant and I had no idea why. Sarah and I walked in towards the host stand and I could tell she was overwhelmed.
"Uh, hi, we have a reservation? We're supposed to be meeting a friend here?" Sarah asked her.
"Unless your friend is a part of the royal family, no one is getting in here." Oh for fucks sake.
"The name is Robert."
My eyes went wide in surprise as I turned to look at her. Robert as in Delta Robert? I have been laying low this whole time, she has no idea that my 'ex' is actually my mate who is also the King. My whole life is about to blow up in my face.
"Yes, he is waiting for you. Both of you." She grabbed menus and motioned for us to follow her through the restaurant.
My heart began to beat faster and faster the closer we got to our table. I had gotten so used to the life I was living I didn't really think about what would happen if life caught up with me. I didn't think it would at all.
"Right through here." She pointed to the private room and pushed open the door and my heart dropped.
was Robert, sitting with his hair up and in a high bun and suit, and right next to him a man I never thought I'd see again.
His all familiar scent, and his all familiar dark blue eyes. The gaze was just as intense as it was before, maybe, even more, this time. There was something about him that was different though. At this time he was sure of not only himself but of me.
"Damon." His name slipped out before I could stop myself, his eyes flickered black and he stood up slowly and took a step towards me.
"Hi, Charlotte. Long time no see."
