Who is that woman?
A week passed in the blink of an eye. Livy had done well in her exams and it was time to take a long holiday. After Arthur dropped her off that day in front of the dormitory building, they didn't meet at all, didn't even exchange messages or calls. Not that she didn't try, she had texted Arthur several times, but no reply.
Arthur ...
By the way, she missed her husband very much now. Is he very busy?
"What are you doing now, huh?" she muttered, sighing tiredly.
Over and over again she checked the last text she had sent to Arthur, not only had he not replied, it had not even been read.
Just counting the days until they leave the country. The maid at home even reported that she didn't need to worry about the luggage she would use later—everything had been prepared.
That meant their departure will still occur.
Suddenly her phone rang with an incoming message. She hastily opened the message and thought it was Arthur. As she read the message, her forehead furrowed.
The message contained no written text, only photos, some photos taken remotely. And when looking at the photos, her eyes widened.
What the ...?
This is the photo of Arthur and a woman?
Livy scrolled through all the photos sent to her phone one by one and her heart went cold. These photos was taken at the right angle, even she could see the face of the woman who was with Arthyr. There she can see how they were so close and entered the same building. Again there was a picture of them hugging, and how the woman looked at Arthur, it was a look full of love and longing.
No no. What the hell is this?
Arthur couldn't have played behind her. Even if they look close, anything can happen and that woman can be anyone; family, close friends—but it couldn't be his lover, right?
Livy looked again at the photos for clues, one of which she saw the name of the building written on the side of the road, and zoomed in, it was the name of a company. After clear reading, she typed the name of the company in the search, and found several references.
B.E Group.
"Still in town. No wonder I think I've seen the building somewhere. It's still downtown."
Her heart suddenly beat erratically and her hands covered in cold sweat. Maybe she should check there?
The exams had ended today, and it was still not very late in the day. Should she check it out? She bit her lip in doubt. If someone found her leaving quietly, she would be in trouble. Speaking of which, now that she knew there were several bodyguards monitoring her around, she couldn't be found out.
"You were walking around in a daze, and almost got in a hole in front of your feet, dammit!"
Livy was surprised by the voice and stopped, she saw Sarah standing not far in front of her with an annoyed face.
Sarah?
"Yeah, it's me. What do you think?" Sarah approached her. "Eh! Hold on, you want to come out too? Want to accompany me for a while?"
"Ah, I ..."
"Hey, come on, just a minute. I'm going to the convenience store."
Before Livy could refuse Sarah took her to a convenience store near the university. As Sarah started shopping, Livy was very agitated and her hands that were holding her phone were sweaty. She was still thinking about the photos.
Who is she? Why is she hugging Arthur?
"By the way, when exactly are you leaving?" Sarah shifted her attention at this question.
"Um ... I'm not sure, maybe next week?" Livy replied a little dazed while pushing the trolley and heading to the fruit rack.
They had been touring the convenience store and Sarah didn't actually buy much. Livy also had no intention of taking anything because her heart was still feeling uneasy.
"Who else is going besides you and Arthur?" asked Sarah.
"... Yeah."
"Yeah?" Sarah tilted her head. "Hey, did you even hear my question?"
"Huh? What?"
Sarah snorted. She looked at Livy with probing eyes, feeling something strange had happened to her best friend ever since they got here.
"Forget it. So will the surgery be successful?"
This time Livy seemed more focused and thought for a moment before answering, "Dave said that the success of the surgery is 40 percent."
Right after she returned to the dorms a week ago, there had been no messages from Arthur at all, not even communicating with Dave or Evander.
Are they really busy? Should she ask for the photos first with Dave or Evander?
Shit! She couldn't calm down.
What is he doing right now? Was he cheating behind her?
Livy's feet suddenly stopped. "Sarah ... what do you think, uh, makes a man cheat on his girlfriend?"
Sarah who had walked a few steps ahead also stopped, turning her head. "Huh? Why are you asking this?"
Livy walked back to match her steps with her best friend. "Just asking."
"Maybe it's boredom or because the men don't feel like they're compatible anymore. You know, just like a pair of best friends, there are times when there's boredom in friendship. Sometimes there's incompatibility. Isn't that what relationships are like?"
Not compatible?
Deep down in Livy's heart, she once thought that they weren't compatible. But it was only a fleeting thought as she felt she couldn't guess Arthur's heart. Arthur is basically a man to be predictable, so there's a bit of unrest at times.
Has he ever thought the same thing?
"Livy, I don't know what's going on, but does this have anything to do with Arthur?" Sarah finally made sense of Livy's weirdness earlier. "Did Arthur do something to you?"
"No no, it's not about Arthur anyway."
Sarah narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
"I'm asking this because there have been cases of infidelity everywhere. Celebrities, officials, ordinary people—that's common, right? Presentations in my class have also discussed cases of infidelity." Livy explained randomly.
"So you are afraid that you will be one of those cases?"
Actually, Livy didn't completely lie about the affair case that was discussed in her class. But as for the question, it did point towards Arthur.
"I'll tell you something, every couple has to be open to each other. There is boredom in a relationship, before the other party or you choose to take out your boredom on someone else—in this case cheating—it's better to tell your partner what's bothering you."
They reached the checkout line by the time Sarah said this. According to Livy what Sarah said had some truth to it, but that was easy in theory to say, when she got the photos she couldn't ask him. Because she was afraid that the photos was true.
She was worried about the worst.
"I didn't expect that Arthur could cheat on you, I don't think he's that type of guy." Sarah added.
Livy felt her neck, where the necklace that she used to wear now wasn't there. She had taken off her necklace on purpose since knowing that there was a bug stored there. The reason she took it off, was because she didn't want Arthur to keep monitoring her, even on her private conversations outside the house.
Now that she thought about it, she actually didn't like being monitored that much.
Sarah tapped her on the shoulder. "But if Arthur cheats on you, I'll beat him. There's no mercy for men who cheat, ok?!"
Livy smiled faintly. "Yeah, I hope Arthur isn't like that."
Even though she said that, in the end she still felt uneasy. In the dorm, she checked again the photos on her phone, no matter how many times she zoomed the photos, it was really Arthur, his husband. When she tries to call the sender's number, it didn't connect.
Who actually sent the photos?
Feeling increasingly uneasy, Livy finally decided to go check it out herself, to be precise, to check the building in the photo. It was already dark indeed, it should be fine if she left for just a bit. Now it's a matter of how she hides from Arthur's bodyguards around her.
Outside the dormitory, Livy, who had prepared her disguise, went out as casually as she could to the streets. She covered her hair and face so tightly no one should know about it.
Finally she hailed a taxi and headed to the place she saw.
The taxi arrived in half an hour.
"Miss, aren't you going down?" asked the taxi driver confused.
"Umm, can we wait a moment? Just give me five minutes." Livy answered nervously.
The taxi driver saw what Livy saw and said, "Are you waiting for someone at this company? It's no use, Miss, this company has gone bankrupt and is about to close down. They have sold it to make it a boutique."
"Bankrupt?" Livy frowned. "Do you know who owns this company?"
The driver laughed at himself. "Miss, I'm just a taxi driver. I don't know anything about the company and its people. I even know this building is for sale too from outside gossip."
Livy sighed disappointedly.
She looked at the photos again and felt that it should have been taken from that corner, right on the pavement and under the palm trees. Observing the building, it seemed that what the driver said was true. The company building was quiet and there was no activity at all.
"Miss, are you looking for that woman? It's not very clear from here, but at first glance she looks a bit like you." The driver pointed somewhere.
Her gaze followed the driver's directions and saw a woman wearing exactly the same clothes as the one in the photo walking out of the building. She was not alone, she was with two men who were rather old and young.
"Evander?"
What is he here for?
Evander seemed to be talking to the old man, their expressions tense. After that Evander turned to leave in a hurry. Even though it was dark, Livy could see his angry expression. He walked over to a car waiting by the side of the road. Strangely, he didn't go straight in, he bowed slightly, talking to the person inside.
The car looked familiar, Livy wanted to check if the person in the car was Arthur, but she couldn't see anything in the car. Worried, she looked at the woman again, and it seemed that now she was arguing with the old man.
Livy still didn't understand this situation.
Some of the photos that were sent to her, they were apparently taken today. For other photos that have restaurant backgrounds and other things that seem to have been taken on other days, their clothes were also different. Livy came to a bit of a rough conclusion. So did they keep seeing each other for a number of times.
Actually who is that woman?
"Miss, the woman left. Do you want to see her or not?" The driver reminded.
Livy saw the woman enter the building, then looked at the car where Evander was and the car had started moving.
"Wait a minute, I'll call someone. Then I'll decide where to go." Livy took out her phone. The taxi driver could only agree.
She immediately made a call and someone answered quickly.
"Miss, what's wrong?" Evander answered the phone.
A little nervous, Livy asked perfunctorily, "N-No, it really doesn't really matter. I just wanted to ask, are you with Arthur now? H-He hasn't answered my texts for a few days. I'm really worried."
There was a brief pause, and Evander's voice came again, "Would you like to speak to him? He is with me now."
Livy's heart stopped beating temporarily, she looked at the car driven by Evander, which was still slightly visible in the distance. Her hands got colder.
"Oh, um, where are you guys? Am I not going to disturb him?" Livy asked slowly.
"We ... at home."
"Livy."
The last voice suddenly changed, Livy was immediately surprised because it was really Arthur. Meaning that someone in the car was him.
"Livy, why are you silent? What's wrong?"
Livy wanted to answer, but her tongue stuck tightly to the roof of her mouth, her throat was dry, her heart felt uncomfortable.
In his car, Arthur saw the call was still on at the time, but the person on the other end still didn't answer. He frowned in confusion.
"I've been busy lately, didn't have time to read your texts. Did something happen?" His tone softened.
There was a brief snort, then a soft voice that said, "I was just worried. Sorry for bothering you. I didn't know you were so busy."
"I was wrong. I'm the one who doesn't have time to contact you."
"No, no. You must be so busy taking care of our departure in a few days, I should be the one who understands your situation." Livy answered quickly. "So are you home now?"
"Yes, but I'll be leaving in a minute."
"You're still busy apparently. Well, you better just hang up this call. I won't bother you anymore."
Why should a wife feel bad about contacting her husband? Arthur was confused.
Even though Arthur didn't see it directly, he could feel she uttering every sentence on her lips forcefully.
Both fell silent. Arthur didn't answer or hang up as Livy asked. He thought for a moment what words should he say. He could honestly tell that she was feeling uneasy because she hadn't given any news recently. He more or less knew the worries of his little wife.
"Arthur, you still there?" Livy's voice startled him.
He replied, "Where were you?"
Livy didn't answer for a long time before she finally said, "I-I'm at the dorm right now. If you're busy, that's fine. I was thinking about going home, but maybe not."
Hearing her nervous tone, he pursed his lips, with the other hand, took out his own phone. He typed a few words in the message for his bodyguard. At the wheel, Evander glanced at him slightly. He guessed something had happened, because Arthur's expression immediately changed.
"No need to come back. I'm not coming home tonight." Arthur rubbed the corner of his lips, there was still a slight bruise there. Livy can't see this.
“Mn. Alright.”
Arthur was relieved that Livy didn't ask him where he was going. Before hanging up the phone, he said, "Don't go out at night."
Before the other party could give an answer, Arthur pressed the button to end the call and placed Evander's phone on the dashboard.
"What's wrong?"
"She's not in the dorm."
Arthur reached into his pocket and found his earphones. When he turned it on, soft music was playing from it.
"Do the bodyguards know where she's gone?"
Arthur recalled the lengthy explanation his bodyguard had sent him via message. "They didn't see when she came out. The new dorm guard did. She reported to one of the bodyguards."
Evander was speechless.
One hour later the car finally stopped at Arthur's house. Evander waited for Arthur to get out of the car and hurry away.
Right after that, Arthur entered the house and contacted someone. "Go in and check Livy's room."
... to be continued ...
