One problem solved
After dropping Livy off right in front of the dormitory gate, Arthur took out his phone and called someone.
"Who did it?" He said coldly as soon as someone else picked up the phone.
"I don't know, sir. The other party didn't tell me the reason, and he just canceled the contract with Mr. Estelle just like that."
Arthur's fingers were cold, clasped together. "Any response from Mr. Estelle?"
"Sir, I'm sorry, I can't face him. Mr. Estelle was furious and said you wanted to clean him up and trick him, thus sending him out of town." This person's tone sounded extremely anxious. "I think he's already flown on the fastest plane back."
Arthur's heart beat wildly with anger. He couldn't understand why someone was still bothering Gwen and her family, when things were almost over.
"Ask someone to investigate this. Do you think it makes sense for the other party to cancel cooperation without cause?" He said coldly.
After the person he was calling understood, Arthur hung up.
Now that he had to get this over with as soon as he would be leaving in two weeks, he couldn't put this off any longer. If he thought this matter was unreasonable, it was indeed unreasonable. Whether the problem was with Branimir or a third party intervening, he needed to get some clarity.
Immediately he contacted Gwen.
"A-Arthur ... t-trouble is going on ..."
As soon as the phone was answered, Gwen's panicked, trembling voice filled his ears.
"Where are you? What really happened? Tell me."
"My father ..."
"Damn kid! Why are you calling that bastard again?! Gimme the phone, that bastard is unrelia—"
Phone disconnected.
Arthur couldn't hear any more from Branimir Estelle's utterly furious screams. And he was very worried that Gwen is in trouble now because of her father's anger. Having known her father for so long, he knew that the old man was very temperamental. He immediately tried to call Gwen again, but her phone was off.
He frowned. Like a good ant to his head, he felt dizzy. He still couldn't properly digest it. Branimir suddenly got angry and accused him of being a bastard. It seems someone must have had a hand in this, maybe he was right in guessing, there was a third party. If he wasn't instigating the other party, he was instigating Branimir.
Arthur closed his eyes.
But who?
Could it be his stepmother? Why did she do that, what are the benefits? The relationship between Gwen and him ended a long time ago. If the reason is to ruin their relationship, it doesn't make sense.
"Go to the airport now."
"Yes, sir."
Arthur immediately sent a message to Evander to explain quickly. It didn't look like this would be over in a short time, so he rushed out of town to see Branimir and ask for an explanation. He didn't even get to go home, only left with the clothes worn on his body and couldn't think of anything else.
A week passed after he managed to appease Branimir's anger and bring him back into the city. The two of them had a meeting to work together with business colleague again at Branimir's old office, B.E Group.
After Arthur studied the case, he concluded that there was indeed someone who disturbed their cooperation by persuading the colleague to cancel the contract on Arthur's behalf. But he still doesn't know who the culprit is.
"Now that this is resolved, please don't pressure me anymore, Mr. Estelle. If there is anything you would like to discuss in the future, please do so with my assistant."
Arthur glanced at the middle aged man who had just spoken expressionlessly. He vaguely saw the man snort with dissatisfaction. But the man didn't have many options in his hands either.
"Well, if this actually ends well, that's fine." Branimir crossed his arms and looked at the documents that had been taken care of by three companies at once. After the problems that arose last time, now the cooperation is really being built. "But I don't accept canceling the contract again in the future, or else I won't stay silent."
The last two sentences, clearly addressed to whom. In this case, Arthur did not feel threatened in the least.
The previous middle-aged man showed a face of disapproval at Branimir. "The cancellation of the previous cooperation has nothing to do with Mr. Finnegan. You should know that someone framed me to cancel the contract. I'm satisfied with receiving payments that I didn't do, now don't cause trouble for me anymore. You know that our company is working together this time. "
"Mr. Smith, thank you for your understanding." Arthur said sincerely.
This is like an expression to stop arguing. Robert Smith, as the party that worked with Branimir, felt that he could not offend Arthur with his nonsense anymore. He immediately stood up.
"You're welcome, Mr. Finnegan. Now that the problem is settled, I'll be heading back to my town." Robert stood up and held out his hand.
Arthur immediately stood up and shook Robert's hand. "I've booked the fastest plane ticket. You can leave in an hour. My driver is waiting for you outside."
Robert glanced at Arthur's calm face for a moment, saw the bruises that had barely disappeared on his cheeks and the corners of his lips. Paying no heed to Branimir, he replied, "Then I'm off."
Outside, Robert actually saw a car ready to take him away. The driver greeted him and opened the door for him. Before he entered, he took another look at the large old office building before him, and shook his head.
"You should pay more attention to your master, that old man is so rude. He's like a rotten bean that has forgotten its shell. Disgusting!" Robert said to the driver before the car left.
Still inside the company, the only people left in the main office were Arthur and Gwen's father. They both stayed silent without saying anything. Branimir's expression, more like someone who feels guilty but didn't want to say it. So that he could only show an ugly face.
"You can go. Problem solved." Branimir said first. "Didn't you expecting me to say thanks to you first?"
Arthur didn't answer.
Branimir snorted. "This problem was caused by you in the first place. I went bankrupt because you influenced Gwen to cancel the wedding. So consider this your penance."
Arthur stared ahead expressionlessly. "Mr. Estelle, if there are any more problems in the future, feel free to contact me. Don't hurt your own child."
"You care about her a lot. Do you regret that she didn't marry you in the past?" said Branimir arrogantly. "I heard that you are married now and your wife has a face that almost looks like my daughter. Yes, I know that you can't forget Gwen at all. But I'm sorry, even if you do everything, I will not give my daughter to a blind man like you."
Those words didn't affect Arthur at all. "Gwen is a beautiful girl, she can get a better man than me."
"Yes, of course. Do you think you deserve her? Now that we've sorted things out between us, you already know we don't need you anymore."
Arthur stood up from his position and turned to leave without saying anything else.
Branimir suddenly said, "At this rate, please don't contact Gwen again in the future."
Arthur reached out to open the door, without turning a second, he walked towards the elevator and went inside. After nearly a week, this problem that had exhausted him was finally solved. He has got the names of those who tricked Robert Smith into breaking up the partnership and causing trouble for Branimir.
Now, he is not going to let these guys go.
When the elevator door opened, Gwen, who had been waiting for him all along, immediately moved to see the man. "Arthur, is the meeting over? Are you leaving now?"
Arthur exited the elevator with his hands in his pockets, eyes on the ceiling. "This office is old. Your father is getting his new office out of town. All the problems are solved."
Gwen couldn't resist the urge to hug Arthur. Even though she knew that in the man's heart, there was no herself anymore, but she couldn't stop herself.
"Arthur, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for all the trouble I've caused in your life." Gwen had been crying a lot lately, and she still cried as if her tears were an inexhaustible source of water.
Hearing her hoarse voice, Arthur sighed. "You must be tired. Go home and rest. Tomorrow you have to be out of town."
Gwen let go of the hug and saw the cut her father had made on Arthur's face. "Can I treat you to a meal?"
"... No, thanks."
Arthur intended to leave but Gwen held his hand.
"Just one last time. Before I go, can we eat together?"
Arthur really wanted to accept the invitation, but Branimir has forbidden him to be close to her again. He didn't want to get her in trouble. Even she has suffered injuries from her father's hands.
Before Arthur could answer, Gwen said, "Arthur, I ... I want to stay with you. I know what I did in the past was unforgivable, but I don't want us to part ways like this. Is there really no chance for me?"
"Gwen—"
"No no no. Don't say anything." Gwen cut him off. "Can't you see my regret? If so, can't we get back together again?"
"..."
"Or ... or if I just become your mistress, I'll take it. Y-Yeah ... what if I become your mistress, huh? I won't ask for anything. Just let me be by your side, okay? I can't live without you. Please ... just please ..." Gwen's tears welled up with despair. "I-I don't know what to do but I want to stay with you. Please."
Arthur took Gwen's hand from him slowly. "Gwen, we're over."
Gwen could feel a coldness from Arthur's words even though he probably didn't do it on purpose. She smiled sadly, it was too painful to even breathe. Is it really the end?
"B-But I—"
Her words stopped when she saw Arthur shaking his head.
"Goodbye." Arthur said as he turned around without even looking at Gwen. Left her with a cold shoulder.
Without him even looking, he knew that Gwen was crying even louder, all he had to do was not look back because he didn't want to live in the past anymore.
Now he has a wife with him. Everything else is not important.
Another car was waiting in front of the lobby to pick him up. Because his personal driver went to take Robert Smith to the hotel, so Evander replaced him. As soon as he walked in, all the tiredness he had been holding in rushed over, and he couldn't help but close his eyes.
"How's Livy?" he asked.
Evander chuckled because Arthur was still thinking about his little wife at a time like this. "No need to think about it. Now, should I take you to the hospital?"
"... Sure."
Once at the hospital, Arthur had his IV drip and was sitting on the couch holding a working tablet in hand. He couldn't relax until everything was perfect, so he had to finish everything.
Dave pulled the tablet from Arthur's hand. "No phones in the hospital."
Arthur didn't protest.
It is said that Arthur was simply exhausted from lack of sleep and irregular eating, his blood pressure had also dropped. If he didn't obey Dave at this moment, the man would surely grumble until his head hurt.
While checking the IV line, Dave asked, "So problem solved, right?"
"Mn. How long do I have to be here?"
"Eat a full bag, then you can go back. In five days you will be leaving for another country, at least as long as you take care of your health. If you fall ill, the surgery can be delayed."
Arthur didn't answer, but he silently agreed.
After that Dave left him to do his other work. It is true what Evander said, the hospital is now becoming known and many patients come and go. Dave really is very busy. Evander had told him once that if he had fully recovered, Dave would stop being a doctor, and he greatly respected that decision.
It was also for one of those reasons that he was determined to recover.
Evander finally came with a bowl of porridge. "Do you want to eat alone or be fed?" he teased.
Arthur gave him an annoyed look as he grabbed the bowl.
"What did he say?" asked Evander later.
"I'm fine."
Hearing this answer, Evander understood that Arthur didn't want to bring it up, so he didn't give chase.
"Where's my earphones?" Arthur felt in his pocket and found nothing.
Evander took Arthur's coat and found the object in question. "Can't you stop doing this?"
Arthur looked up in disbelief.
"By monitoring her like this, the next time she finds out, do you think she won't be angry?" Evander explained.
Arthur, "..."
"I know you are worried for her and think this will prevent someone from hurting her. But if you were her, would you like your private conversations to be monitored by others?"
Arthur was still silent.
When Evander sensed that Arthur was starting to understand, he emphasized, "Livy is indeed an innocent girl, but that doesn't mean she won't be angry if she finds out about this. Even if she doesn't get angry directly, she will definitely be disappointed and hurt."
"Then, what should I do?" Arthur put down the recorder.
He didn't mean to keep monitoring her secretly. Only, this was a way for him to stay calm knowing that she would be fine as long as he checked.
Anything could happen. Livy's life could be in danger.
For example, Gwen—who, even though she doesn't have any relationship with him anymore—but someone is still trying to hurt her in order to bring him down.
Especially Livy, his wife now. Evil eyes are everywhere to carry out the action.
Arthur didn't want her to get hurt.
"All the bodyguards have been on standby around her, right? Just trust them." Evander patted his shoulder reassuringly.
... to be continued ...
