Chapter thirty nine
"Good morning Alpha Nikolas,’’ Drew said.
He had gotten to the palace an hour ago and ever since then he's been trying to convince Laura that he knew nothing about Benita's visit but that proved to be a waste of time as she didn't pay him any attention.
"Son, glad of you to see me after such a long time I must say," Alpha Nikolas said.
"I'm sorry I haven't been consistent with my visits, things have been a little bit tight," Drew said.
Laura walked past at that minute as she gave him the stink eye. Drew tried waving her over but she ignored him, heading in the opposite direction.
"Trouble with your mate?" Alpha Nikolas chuckled.
"Well, just a little misunderstanding we'll soon resolve" Drew smiled.
He didn't want to trouble Alpha Nikolas with something like that. Whatever was going on, he was sure that he and Serah would resolve it amicably. Even though she wasn’t listening to anything he said, he was going to make her see the reasons why he didn’t know Benita was coming over. Benita was getting desperate by the day, and Drew knew he had to put a stop to her visits as soon as possible. She was creating a damper on his and Laura’s relationship and the earlier he stopped her, the better for him.
"It's perfectly normal. My mate and I had a lot of that but in the end, we were able to solve them with patience and understanding" he said.
Drew remained quiet, taking in his words. The advice he was getting from him couldn't be bought anywhere and he was grateful he still had a father who had his best interest at heart.
"I called you here because I've gotten the monthly reports on the company and I'm afraid so, it's not looking good," he said.
"I know Alpha and I'm sorry about this. It's because I've not been concentrating on work due to some other things I've been doing’’ Drew said.
"I understand it soon but you should learn to split your time. Don't focus on one at the detriment of the others" Alpha Nikolas said.
"I understand Alpha,’’ Drew said.
"Good. You should also be prepared, the full moon is coming.’’
Drew had completely forgotten all about it. The full moon was usually when no wolf attacked the other and it was also the day some Alpha's handed over to their next in line. But in their case, there would be no handing over since Drew was the Alpha of his pack.
"Yes, I know Alpha and I'm trying so hard to balance everything up before the full moon arrives" Drew said.
"Good. I'll be expecting an increase in the revenue of the company. You can do this son, I believe in you" Alpha Nikolas smiled.
"Alpha, there's another reason I'm here," Drew said.
"What's it son? Let's hear it".
"I need help Alpha and I don't mean monetary or advice. I need ammo" Drew said.
Alpha Nikolas remained quiet for a while. The issue of ammo was another thing entirely, one they had to be careful about. Supplying Ammos to Drew wasn’t the problem but its use was. In the whole kingdom, Alpha Nikolas had the largest collection of Ammos followed closely by Alpha Jed and his son, and Drew knew that if this war was to happen, he needed to be a step ahead of him.
"What happened? You ran out?" Alpha Nikolas asked.
"Not quite.’’
Drew proceeded to tell him about everything that had happened. He left none behind as he wanted to come clean. He knew that it was better than lying about something and he knew that if Alpha Nikolas got to find out, there would be trouble.
"How much do you need?" he asked finally.
"Anything you can give me Alpha, I'll be grateful" Drew smiled.
He knew that Alpha Nikolas had a lot of arms being that they were one of the largest suppliers in the whole city.
"Alright, I'll send in half a million. That should do and Drew, make sure you make good use of them" he said.
"I promise," Drew smiled.
Alpha Nikolas instructed one of his maids to call in Laura who walked in a few minutes later. Drew sat up as the beautiful image of his wife walked in. Ever since the suspicions of the attack, she had been staying here safe at the palace.
"Alpha Nikolas, you called for me," Laura smiled.
"Yes my dear, please take a seat," Alpha Nikolas said.
Laura took a seat farthest from Drew which didn't go unnoticed by the old wolf as Laura faced the old wolf squarely. Drew tried calling her attention but Laura was adamant to ignore him completely.
"I called you here because I want to find out what's going on between you too. Your relationship isn't the way it used to be" Alpha Nikolas said.
Laura opened up to him immediately, narrating all that had happened. At that moment, she needed any form of advice she could get and Alpha Nikola was the best candidate to give one.
She couldn’t quite understand why Drew gave Benita the power to ride him. He was the Alpha and he should very well take a stand on how she walked in and out of his life. Laura was his mate but sometimes, Drew didn’t treat her that way especially if Benita was around. Laura was beginning to hate the she-wolf. She had faced a lot of hardship in her Step father’s house and she was not about to continue as Drew’s mate.
"Drew, is this true?" he asked.
"Yes Alpha, it is but not the way my mate claims,’’ Drew said.
"Well, let's hear yours".
Drew told him his side of the story and when he was done, he felt as if a heavy load had been lifted off his shoulders. He felt light and free now that he had talked to someone who understood.
"I blame the both of you," Alpha Nikolas said.
Laura whipped her head, staring at him. She didn't expect this and was quite surprised that the Alpha blamed the both of them for something that was entirely her mate's fault. She wasn’t the one who gave Benita free reign to walk in and out of his life the way he liked. There was absolutely nothing she hadn’t told Drew to do about her but instead, he paid a deaf ear to her words. This was not her fault but she decided to remain quiet as respect would have it.
"How?" Drew asked.
"For allowing someone like her to cause a rift between you two. Don't you know that by doing this, you're giving her a lot of power to lord over you" he said.
Now that Drew thought about it, he discovered that Alpha Nikolas was right. They should have known better rather than allowing Benita to take a stand on their relationship.
"I see it now. I'm sorry Drew.’’ Laura muttered.
That was the best thing to do in this situation. Never again would she allow Benita to make a mark in their relationship. She was Drew’s mate and she was going to start acting like it henceforth.
"I'll leave you two now," Alpha Nikolas said.
He shifted to his wolf form, an old gray wolf that stood majestically. Drew had always envied his friend's form and secretly wished he was blessed with such shiny gray fur.
Alpha Nikolas howled before walking away. His tail swished in the air to indicate that he was happy. Drew walked over to where she sat, taking her hands in his. He gave it a gentle squeeze, silently reassuring her that everything would be fine.
"I'm sorry too for allowing her to have a say in our relationship" Drew said.
"It's okay. At least, we've learned our lesson" Laura smiled, stroking his cheek.
Drew gripped her waist, smelling her arousal. He knew he wanted her but he didn't quite want to rush her especially now that they had just mended their relationship.
"Aren't you going to do anything about it?" Laura moaned.
"What exactly?" Drew teased.
"I'll teach you just how," Laura said, dragging him in the direction of the room.
"I'll be glad to be your guest".
Drew was glad that finally, they had gotten over what he could term as the longest argument they had ever had since they were mates. He had Alpha Nikolas to thank for everything and within him, he made a promise that if everything they wanted to do goes well, he would surprise the old wolf.
He had been with him since he lost his parents at a very young age, he was a father and a mother to him, and Drew would never forget all of his teachings for a long time. He had ingrained in him different lessons he needed to learn if he was to be a great Alpha. As he followed Laura towards the private quarters of the palace, Drew knew then that there was no tearing them apart ever again.
