Chapter 21
Blue Lagoon Manor
As vehicles approached what little moon light there was became blacked out by clouds. Beta Darien’s car sat up the road from the broken gates. The group stopped and checked the car for any signs, only to find Darien’s phone left on the driver seat.
The ominous feel of the headlights hitting a perfectly clean parked car sitting in front of the manor. Grass overgrown, front windows broke and bits of glass glistening in the bushes next to the house when truck lights hit them.
The single occupant of the manor sitting patiently in the study. A small fire burning in the fireplace. Absent mindedly stirring the dark red liquid in his coffee cup. Fully aware of the caravan's arrival.
He laid in waiting, admiring his handy work as Beta Darien’s severed head rest on the mantle of the fireplace. Sipping the blood of an Alphas son his trap already set. Surly the rescue party would have no trouble finding him as he left a trail of body parts for them to follow. Smiling to himself as he heard footsteps approaching.
The group found the front door wide open, a dark trail of partially dried blood leading down the hallway. Within ten steps a dismembered torso rested upright against a staircase. Unmistakably the body of Beta Darien. The scars and wolf tattoo making identifying it all too easy.
Two men with dart guns moving behind two others to lead the way they followed the obvious trail. Large wooden double doors stood closed. Small flickers of light could be seen coming from underneath the doors.
The men pushed open the doors, but none were prepared for what they saw next. Surrounding the room various animal heads lined the walls. It was no secret Alpha Donte was a hunter his many trophies on exhibit in this room but for every one of Alpha Donte’s trophies at least one severed wolf head hung. Haphazardly resting on antlers or sitting on the heads of other animals.
Alpha Donte’s smashed into the mouth of a stuffed lion beside a large chair where a man could be seen. Sitting in an oversized chair a book in one hand and a coffee cup in the other. The man's bare feet looking oddly out of place with his pressed slacks and long sleeve button up white shirt.
Having taken note of their entrance he laid the book down on the table next to him. He slowly stood up not once taking his eyes away from the fire. “You gentlemen are late to the party. Let me see if there’s still room on the guest list.” He sneered.
Turning the man's eyes glowed brightly as his hands moved to his chest ripping open his shirt. Fingers began to elongate, and hair sprouted his body stretched. Finally stopping this monstrosity stood almost nine feet tall. Hovering over the men drool dripping from his razor-sharp teeth.
The men moved quickly firing two tranquilizer darts directly at its chest. He managed to swat one away but the other found its mark. Exploding on impact a three-inch hole burning into its chest. Sizzling like acid the Lycan stumbled catching himself on the mantle, but the third dart made contact dropping him to the ground dragging the mantle and Darien’s head down with him.
The group dragged the massive body out to one of the trucks. Silver cuffs on its wrists and ankles. An iron clamp around its neck secured to the truck with chains. Thinking nothing of it still being in shifted form most of the group headed inside to collect the remains of Beta Darien. The other bodies would have to wait for another day.
Once they finished retrieving his remains, they loaded up their gear and headed back. Seemingly triumphant.
Pulling back into pack territory as sunlight peaked over the mountains. It took eight strong men to carry the Lycan into one of the few holding cells the jail had. Leaving the body in a heap on the floor. Silver restraints still in place they found no need to tie him up further as they swung the large iron door closed behind them. Locking him inside the room.
Alpha Aiden and Luna Joann came out. Alpha Aiden getting an account of the events from several of the men. Although they had returned with the Lycan and the body of Beta Darien they found no trace of Alpha Eric. Another party would need to be sent to care for those in Alpha Donte’s pack.
Miss Evens became visible walking slowly towards the group. Overhearing some of the mean recount the evening. “How did you manage to take him alive?” She asked.
Luna Joann answering. “Dr. Stevenson and Dr. Isaacs made new stronger darts for the men before they left. The amount of wolfbane in them toxic to us.”
Miss Evens gasped, dropping her coffee cup to the ground which shattered on impact. “Wolfbane doesn’t work on Lycans.”
The men quickly ran back to the cell, realizing their prisoner had been awake the entire time. They entered to find the heavy door ripped from its hinges. Silver cuffs on the floor, hastily removed with only a small amount of blood and black fur where they had been torn off.
As the men entered the jail a loud crash could be heard from the direction of the clinic. Miss Evens took off running in that direction. Luna Joann shifted, and Grace ran after. Grace was surprised to find herself losing ground on Miss Evens who had remained in human form.
Rounding the corner, the front of the clinic was destroyed. The metal surrounding the door twisted inward. The massive black Lycan looked like a blur moving down the hallway at shocking speed for its size.
The Lycan reached the door, grabbing hold of the handle ready to rip it from the frame. Teeth bared it turned back to look at us. It’s eyes falling on Miss Evens, the smirk on his face fell as she shifted.
