Chapter 25
Five years later
POV Thea
The first few months after Alpha Eric went missing dragged on. The Alpha and Luna search Alpha Donte’s manor a hundred times. Sending scouts to patrol the grounds for over a year but nothing but one family coming back from vacation was ever found. The Lycans didn’t return. Eric and them seemed to vanish.
The Alpha and Luna had hope that he was still out there. His connection to the pack had never been severed. So, he is alive out there somewhere. Eventually Alpha Aiden blamed himself, believing that Eric chose not to come back because he was so hard on him.
Alpha Aiden has grown cold and distant over the years and Luna Joann has lost her smile. Everyone tells me stories of how happy they were before.
Candice and Brent took me in and raised me as their own. I don’t remember much of what happened, Candice says it’s a trauma response and best if I don’t remember.
I wish I could miss him and often feel guilty that I don’t. Having only meet him once and even that was only a few minutes. I have no memory of him at all. Selova only remembers the beautiful light grey wolf shining in the darkness protecting us but that sounds like some fairytale and neither of us can really remember what happened.
More guilt weighs down on me because I have never been more excited. In two weeks, it will be my 18th birthday and I can finally pledge to the pack and no longer be a rogue.
Very few have ever made me feel like less because I’m a rogue, but the kids pick on me at school. Miss Evens is always there to remind them someday I will be the Lunar wolf and their queen. Her and the Luna are the only ones who believe that.
Miss Evens has been teaching me everything she knows about the Lunar wolf. Most of it sounds made up honestly. Somehow, I will be able to communicate and have Alpha control over all of our kind.
I don’t want to be a Queen. I just want to be part of the pack. Constantly surrounded by people I still feel incredibly alone.
A knock at the door reminded me I’m running late for school and my first class is of course with Miss Evens for Werewolf Studies. I ran to the door to answer it as I brushed my hair.
Amira pushed the door open followed closely by her brother Jason. “What the shit Thea, we are going to be late again.” Amira said grabbing the brush from me and putting my hair in a French braid. “I swear once your Queen I’m in charge of your hair, makeup and clothes. You are incapable of taking care of yourself.” She teased and I rolled my eyes at her.
“Miss Evens will have our ass for sure this time.” Jason said as he grabbed my bag and threw it in the back seat. “Let’s go girls! You both look marvelous. Now let’s go! Let’s go!” He said while poking our sides, tickling us to move faster.
Amira and Jason are my only real friends. They are all that was found of Alpha Donte’s pack. Four hundred people just gone. Luckily their parents had taken them on a trip for their mothers' birthday. They came back a week after Eric disappeared and Luna Joann was at the manor looking for clues.
Although their parents pledged to the pack they feel as much outsiders as I do.
Amira is a red headed beauty and a spit fire. Her curly wild hair as untamable as she is. I joke that she’s so awry because she’s closer to hell. The top of her head barely comes to my shoulder, but her attitude is ten feet tall.
Jason on the other hand has light brown shoulder length hair with a few red highlights. At 6’6” he towered over all of us even Alpha Aiden. The skinny giant looked like a tree with no branches from a distance.
Candice liked to joke that Jason was probably my mate since we got along so well. Having no wolf, she really didn’t understand that it doesn’t work like that. Besides only Amira and I knew I wasn’t exactly his type. I’m sure his parents would be accepting but Jason wasn’t ready to come out to them yet.
We pulled up to the school, grabbing our bags and running as fast as we could to class. Stopping at the door we checked the time, 10 minutes late. Amira gently opened the back door to the classroom and peaked in. Seeing Miss Evens back to us she signaled and all three of us bolted in and found seats.
Without even turning around Miss Evens said. “If you feel you must be late at least don’t disrupt the whole class in doing so.”
Amira stifled a laugh and both me and Jason gave her wide eyed looks.
I swear Miss Evens just liked making me uncomfortable. Being my birthday in two weeks and supposedly when I get my Lunar wolf powers, she decided we would learn about nothing else.
“Amira, since you find something so entertaining why don’t you entertain us. How did the Lunar wolf get her powers?” Miss Evens big owl eyes focused in on her.
Amira wasted no time digging herself an even bigger hole. “Um from being such a bad ass and being friends with the hottest girl in school.” She beamed.
“I'm going to need a thousand-word essay by Friday on the origin of the Lunar wolf Amira. Anyone else care to try?” Miss Evens asked.
Tiffany the class know it all who hated me literally just for existing quickly raised her hand “Technically….” She smirked. “… Thea doesn’t have any powers Selova does.”
“I’ll be expecting a thousand-word essay from you as well Tiffany on the bond between the human and wolf sides and how their power draws from each other. Anyone else care to write me an essay?” She said with a hmm.
I had to cover my mouth with my hand or risk her seeing my big ass grin and being next. I had training with Miss Evens today after class. I did not want to be on her bad side.
