Chapter 26
POV Thea
After the attack on the clinic five years ago the Luna insisted everyone attend pack training, not just the warriors.
As soon as you got your wolf you belong to Zandra and being the supposed Lunar wolf, I had training five days a week ever since I was 12. Not that it did me any good. Zandra is huge, claws the size of my head and teeth like razor blades. Selova is faster but we were still no match.
It’s downright embarrassing getting beat by a two hundred some odd year-old wolf in front of half the school five days a week. I swear Tiffany shows up just to watch me fail.
Out on the training grounds four other pairs had sparred up. Miss Evens waddled her little self-up to her side. She’s even shorter than Amira. “You ready Thea.” She asked. Not looking up at me, she just went about her business neatly folding her clothes. Not that I was looking but I hope my body still looks half that good at her age. I laughed to myself,
instantly knowing it was a mistake.
Miss Evens jumped at me half shifted before landing a blow directly to my cheekbone. I rolled backwards pulling on Selova who excitedly took over. She enjoyed sparring with Zandra. That made one of us.
Selova had become quite large herself over the years. A little larger that Juxes even, not that anyone would admit it.
Selova shifted during the roll and landed on her paws. Teeth bared she waited for the next move.
“Get her!” I cheered.
“No, we wait.” She told me.
On Zandra’s next attack, Selova quickly dodged left. Turning just in time to sink her teeth into Zandra’s right leg. A hard right backhand to the head making her release her grip enough for Zandra to get free.
Selova shook her head trying to regain her bearings. She rushed, darting between Zandra’s legs. Grabbing her left ankle with her teeth and forcing her to fall forward.
“We got her.” I cheered.
Zandra lay there face down but as Selova pounced to make a final blow, she rolled over. Grabbing Selova by the throat and lifting her off the ground.
“We almost had her.” I told Selova encouragingly.
Zandra slowly shrinking back into Miss Evens, she shook her head in disappointment. “You had it, but you hesitated, there is no time to gloat in battle.” She sat me on the ground and turned to get dressed.
“Another day another loss.” Selova said to me.
“We’ll get her someday.” I told her.
“We got her down at least.” She replied.
Grabbing another set of clothes from my pack I got dressed. Amira joined me and we went to watch the last of Jason’s match.
He was paired up with Thomas today. “Lucky, I never get Thomas.” I whined sarcastically.
Amira rolled her eyes. “That’s because he’s no match for you. The patrol leader's meathead ego would be crushed getting beat by a she wolf. Even if she is the future Queen.”
I squirted my water bottle at her. Although I couldn’t argue Thomas was a meathead. He worked so hard building muscle that he was slow and clumsy.
Everyone else was sparring in human form. Zandra wanted to push us next week. Our human form against her which seemed hardly fair but understandable. If our wolf became week or took too many injuries and we were forced to shift she didn’t want us to be helpless.
Jason quickly out maneuvered Thomas. Staying out of his reach and landing what blows he could with his long arms. Jason had reach and speed on his side, but Thomas hit like a wrecking ball. Jason stumbled for just a second, but Thomas saw his opportunity and took it. A single fist pound to the chest sends Jason staggering backwards, the wind knocked out of him and possibly a few broken ribs.
Jason knelt down our sparring signal for surrender. Amira and I rushed over to help him up. He was holding his chest and wheezing.
“He rang your bell didn’t he.” Amira said playfully. We were all used to losing but took it in stride and kept trying to get better. On what planet do we win against a Lycan or warrior.
Jason laughed then hissed. “Dam it sis. At least let my ribs heal first before cracking your jokes.”
“I can’t stop cracking jokes about him cracking your ribs because I crack myself up.” She said pointing and shooting finger guns at him before blowing fake smoke off her fingertips.
“You are so lame it hurts me. It’s a good thing you’re pretty because if you had to find a mate based off your humor you’d die alone.” He said.
“So, you’re admitting your doomed then because I got all the charm and good looks. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find someone who’s into giraffes with the personality of burnt toast.” She grabbed his bag and trotted off to the car.
We turned to corner to an all too familiar sight. The words “Rogue Trash”, “Go Away”, “Rogue Garbage” and “Rogue Whore” spray-painted all-over Jason’s car.
“Oooo.” Amira cooed. “Rogue Whore is new. They pulled out their big brains today.”
Sadly, this happened to Jason’s car every few months. He didn’t seem to mind.
He wrapped his arm around my shoulder. “You know what I was getting board of that color anyway. Now the only question, should I paint it again or wrap it this time.”
“Maybe that pearl green wrap you were looking at last time.” Feeling guilty never lasted around them. Jason almost had me convinced he liked repainting his car.
The Alpha and Luna knew about it. Alpha Aiden even questioned anyone it could have been at school. Surprisingly no one admitted to it, even with Alpha's pull no one confessed. He even interrogated Tiffany and commanded her to tell the truth and it isn’t her.
It’s been going on for about a year and it’s just something we learned to live with.
