Chapter 32
POV Thea
The pack buzzed excitedly at the arrival of Paula’s family. Strange to think how open everyone was to the idea that she had a whole other life outside of Omega Gavin.
Amira and I got tasked with arranging the grandchildren’s rooms. We jumped at the opportunity to get out of the pack house. The Alpha and Luna have been a little overbearing. I know losing Eric has made them overly cautious but the mere fact that Omega Gavin died near us doesn’t necessarily put us at risk.
Candice and Brent made the decision to quickly for me. They didn’t even think about letting me stay home.
Now Amira and I are basically on lock down. We can’t leave the house even to go to school without warriors with us.
Amira likes to pretend we are royalty who needs guards to protect us. Leaving it to her to find a way to make it fun.
It wasn’t much but Alpha Aiden wanted to put them up in a few empty houses down the road from the pack house. Overall, it would be small for as many people as were coming but Beta Sebastian was expected to stay in one of the rooms in the pack house.
While warriors and some other pack members hurried to bring in some furniture, we were tasked with getting bedding, drapes and dishes.
Far from the most exciting adventure we had been on, but it was something to do.
Luna Joann made it clear we had no budget. She wanted them all to feel as comfortable as possible.
Amira and I were in the store making absolute fools of ourselves just for the sake of doing it. Crawling on top of one of the oversized beds and snuggling down in the covers in the middle of the store.
“Can you even imagine what Paula’s family must be thinking. She’s been missing for sixty years then boom phone call. Hey what’s up? How you doing?” She said wiggling around in the sheets.
“Alpha Aiden and Alpha Cooper must be on good terms.” She said after a minute.
“Why do you say that?” I asked.
“How are they supposed to know Alpha Aiden or the Luna’s dad didn’t just kidnap her or something.”
“Ok so they kidnapped her, forced her to marry crusty old Gavin then somehow erased her memory of it. That sounds totally plausible.” I told her.
“Demon possession then.” She said sarcastically.
“That seems more likely. Candice thinks maybe her wolf snapped at Gavin’s death and is protecting her somehow. Like Selova did when my parents died. She just took over and I don’t remember any of it.” I said.
“What if it’s like some alien body snatchers thing. They switched her for someone else.” She said making her best creepy voice.
“You’re so weird.”
“That’s why you love me.” She said jumping off the bed.
Grabbing one of the pillows she gave one of the warriors a firm smack on the ass with it before tossing it back on the bed. “I just hope my mate isn’t a warrior. Some boring ridged stiff.”
Since her 18 th birthday she has talked about little else. She was so excited to have one person to torment for the rest of her life.
Jason was terrified of finding his. Although Amira and I knew he hadn’t told his parents yet. I feared if he was mated to a she wolf that he would just go along with it.
I could care less honestly. Amira fantasized about what her mate looked like, how tall he was, where his pack lived. I tried not to think about it at all.
With the pressure of supposedly being the Lunar wolf and the fact that I really had now pack it family. Who would want me.
I thought more about pledging to the pack and becoming a member. Then hopefully I wouldn’t feel like such an outsider. Amira constantly tried to reassure me that I was a member but it’s diffident for them. Their parents are alive to pledge a pack while I just float out here in limbo.
All our antics and caught the attention of a few store employees who cautiously came up to us. I couldn’t blame them the warriors with us looked like Grizzlies someone stood up and put pants on.
“Excuse me, will you ladies be purchasing anything or are you just here to try everything out.” One of the employees said. By the look of the other three employees hiding behind the counter I assume he pulled the short straw. He wasn’t much taller than Amira and toothpick skinny. His whole body made up one of the warriors' legs.
Trying to avoid yet another incident, I grabbed a few bed sets and pillows throwing them in our cart. “We were just getting ready to check out. Thank you.” I said.
He hadn’t made it ten feet before Amira burst out laughing. “Hasn’t he heard of try before you buy.” She stuck her tongue out at him.
“I don’t think that applies here” I replied shaking my head.
We managed to find everything we needed and a few other things at a couple stores in town. Amira made sure to embarrass me everywhere we went.
She wanted to stop at one more place. Luna had said to keep our eyes open for anything Beta Sebastian might like. No one but Amira and I had stayed in the pack house since Eric disappeared.
We had to beg and plead with one of the warriors to go in for us. We snooped as much as we could to find out what he might like. As it turns out he was known for being fond of good Cognac. The very idea grossed Amira and I completely out but we hoped an expensive bottle would help show how much we appreciated them being here.
Paula had calmed down so much just knowing they were coming while Candice and Dr. Stevenson made every effort to try to help her.
After much debate we finally won. Right before we headed back, we took a quick detour to a liquor store where they purchased a bottle for me.
Heading back to the pack house I felt accomplished.
