Chapter 35
POV Thea
We didn’t make it to the gate before Jason wanted answers. “So, what are we really up to?” He asked.
“If I tell you, do you promise not to make fun of me?” I asked.
“Absolutely not, that would be against my nature.” He held his hand up to his heart. “I promise to relentlessly make fun of you any chance I get until the day I die!”
“I have grown to expect nothing less.” I told him. “I want to get Eric some clothes. I know it’s stupid, but he saved me. I’ve been living with his pack and his family this whole time while he went through…” My mind drifted off as I looked out the window thinking of the deep scars that covered his body. “We don’t know what happened to him, but he could be my mate. At least he’s sure he is, and I know it’s nothing compared to what he’s done for me but it’s something.”
Jason didn’t say anything just continued to look at the road as we passed the gates.
“You think it’s dumb, don’t you?” I asked.
For once he didn’t have a smart-ass comment. His face looked sad even with a slight smile on it. “No. It’s not. It’s really sweet and I get it. Sometimes what you have to give in return seems too small.”
I forget that without the Alpha and Luna, Jason and his family would be rogues like me. Luna and Candice may have found a way to let me stay but I still didn’t belong.
We drove the rest of the way in silence before Jason snapped us back. “So where do you think, we can go to get clothes in size bear?” He asked.
“It just so happens there’s a big and tall store off the main drag that’s owned by an Omega. If anyone can help it will be him.” I showed him the location on the map.
We passed it three times trying to find it. The large brick building looked abandoned and had no windows. The door was solid metal and rusted and the building numbers had fallen off long ago.
Jason went to the door and knocked, giving me a here we go look.
The door creaked open slowly. I had never understood pack members distaste for rogues until the scent of this man hit my nostrils. He smelled of rancid milk that had been left out in the sun. I didn’t understand what it was until Jason pushed himself between us to guard me from the man.
“Can I help you?” The man asked. Squaring up solidly with Jason.
“I think we have the wrong place.” Jason told him before trying to push me back towards the car.
The man took in a deep breath. “I don’t think you do.” He sneered. Stepping back away from the door a loud click could be heard before the large warehouse behind him started to light up.
Rows upon rows of clothes became visible behind him. Jason and I looked at each other skeptically.
“I’m sure you’re in the right place. I can smell the wolf in you both.” He said as he walked away leaving the door open.
“We promised the Luna no sketchy business.” Jason whispered to me.
Mustering up all my courage and plastering a big fake smile. “No this is fine. This doesn’t seem dangerous at all.” I reassured him as I pressed passed him through the door and followed the man.
As I caught up with him, he said. “I don’t know that I will have anything for your friend there. I usually cater to the larger of our kind.
“Yes, it’s a shame I don’t have to buy my clothes from a rogue in a deserted warehouse.” Jason mocked.
The man stopped, turning around.
Before Jason got us kicked out, I said. “It’s not for him. Alpha Eric has returned and no one in the pack is close to his size. I was hoping you’d have something.”
The man's eyebrows raised as he pondered for a minute. “So, the young Alpha has returned. What a joyous occasion.” The tone of his voice was anything but sincere. “Do you know his size?” He asked as he led us deeper into the building.
Jason of course took this opportunity to be his smart-ass self. “You wouldn’t happen to have anything in size Jurassic Park, would you?”
The man looked at him confused.
“He’s about this tall.” I said standing on my tip toes and extending my arm up as high as I could. “And um this wide.” I tried to recall.
Jason finally decided to be helpful. “He’s about 6’ 7” and weighs probably 285 to 300 lbs and he’s solid.”
“Oh my, the young Alpha has grown.” He made an abrupt right turn. “He would have been a large man anyway.” He showed us to three racks. Everything on it could fit both Jason and I in it.
“I don’t have a lot of money, but I’d like to get him something nice.” I told Jason grabbing one of the tags on a beautiful baby blue long sleeve shirt before snatching my hand back quickly. “This shirt is $600!”
“Take what you like, bring back anything that doesn’t fit.” The man said. Grabbing the shirt and handing it to me.
I stared at him for a few minutes.
“Alpha Eric and I have history.” He said before finding a few more items to add to my arms. “I owe him a debt I may never be able to repay.” He smiled and for the first time he didn’t seem so creepy.
On our way out the door I was satisfied with what we had found. A few nice items of each size and a few casual clothes.
Jason found something that snagged his attention and abruptly stuffed the clothes he was carrying into my arms. He returned with the biggest stupid grin on his face. “Just in case.” He said producing a blue and yellow Hawaiian shirt that looked to be the size of a two-person tent.
“Really?” I asked him, rolling my eyes.
I thanked the owner and promised to bring back anything he couldn’t use but our parting words once again made me feel something was off about him.
“I’m sure Alpha Eric will be pleased with the things you’ve picked for him. You have impeccable taste.” He said.
“Thank you, I’ll let him know you send your regards. I’m sorry I don’t believe I caught your name.” I said to him.
“It’s Omega Edmond and I’d much prefer if you didn’t mention this or me to him.” He told me before quickly shutting the door in my face and shutting off the lights.
