Chapter 18 I brought food for you
"MY Cousin is already in the company," Larry informed Chrismith as he called.
"Very good, I want to know the truth before we get married so I don't have to clean up anything in her name."
"It was just amazing because she made my cousin her spy on every move and plan of her sister and father."
Chrismith's forehead furrowed and he thought about what Larry has said. He does not believe that Nica had squandered the money of their company. He also distrusts her father. He believes that Nica could only be accused of stealing the funds because the girl allegedly believed that everything would go to Janice. He made an agreement with Don Alfonso not because he wants to help him change his daughter. His reason was to be close to her and that was his heart's desire.
"Just update me on other important things she'd discover," Chris ordered Larry before cutting the line. Right after he hung up the phone, his mother called.
"I don't like your decision, Chrismith! It doesn't matter to me anymore if you will be single forever, just don't marry that woman!" Luisa said. Her friend just called her and she was angry because her husband did not object to their son's decision. She just chose not to argue with him because of his heart condition.
"Mom, you don't know her yet so stop judging her," Chris replied calmly to his mother. He knew she is mad and he would have a hard time changing her mind.
"Janice is the one I want for you! She's the one I want to be a daughter-in-law because I already know her. She's a sensible woman and I'm sure that she'll take care of you and my future grandchildren!" Luisa strongly objected and started scolding her son in anger.
"Mom, when have you been that censorious?" He asked his mother sadly. He also suddenly felt guilty because when he still did not know Nica personally, he judged her like the others. Nica's image to his mother is already ruined because of Janice and her mother. He was not surprised anymore that his mother reacted like this.
Luisa was surprised and could not do or say anything, her son has a point. Either way, she still really wants Janice for him. When her son told her about the wedding plan, she hoped that he might change his mind.
On Bheng's first day at work, she was haggard because she was still struggling with what to do. She also has a lot of work so she rarely talks to her boss. She was accompanied by Rose, who teaches her the do's and don'ts on her work.
"Be faithful to your new boss so you don't become like me." Rose's message to Bheng was meaningful.
"What do you mean?" Bheng asked the lady, confused.
"Ah, nothing!" Rose gave a short answer before turning her back on her. "Just call me if you need anything else."
"Thank you!" Bheng smiled broadly at the lady, the latter also has to take care of her new job. Her stomach suddenly growled when she was alone. It was lunchtime, so she went to Nica's office and knocked on the door.
"Ma'am?" She said softly and peered through the open door when she heard nothing from her. The young lady is busy writing something so she decided to go inside to make her presence noticed by her boss.
"Beautiful!" Bheng whispered to herself when she saw what her boss was drawing. It was not over yet, but she knew that the outcome of that drawing would be good. It still looks like she has a world of her own and does not care about the surroundings, so she hemmed.
Nica quickly folded the striped paper when she noticed the person in front of her. "What are you doing here?" She asked Bheng because she was surprised by her presence.
"I just want to say that it's lunchtime already, Ma'am." Bheng smiled rawly at her boss who is obviously surprised by her.
Nica glanced at her wristwatch before leaning against the back of the seat. "I see, you may go now." She dismissed Bheng. They had already discussed that the two of them should not look like friends inside the company.
"Aren't you going to eat?"
Nica smiled for a second at Bheng and shook her head. She has no appetite which often happens when she is depressed.
Bheng pressed her lips together and reluctantly stepped out of the office. She took a glance at the young lady who now has her eyes shut. She pities her, she realized that the young lady is just like a robot who aspires to live even though she is alone.
Nica did not notice that she had slept for almost half an hour. A noise awoke her.
"What the hell?" She exclaimed in shock when Mr. Yuchan's handsome face was the first thing that appeared before her eyes. She touched her chest, her heart is beating loud.
"I brought food for you."
Nica frowned as her gaze followed every movement of the young man's hand. Chris acts as if he is the thing he is doing is normal. She does not want such treatment because she is afraid to get used to it and fall for it.
Chris turned to look at the young lady when he felt her gaze toward him. "Didn't you like this food?"
"Why are you doing this?" She asked him in confusion.
"I don't want to have a sick wife." He answered and brought the food near her.
"How did you know that I haven't eaten anything yet?" She questioned him suspiciously and did not touch the food even though she wanted it.
"I was going to invite you to eat outside, but I caught you asleep so I just ordered and had it delivered here."
Nica raised an eyebrow at Chris before glancing at the food in front of her.
"I know you prefer to eat alone, so that's all I ordered," Chris explained. The truth is that he went there in a hurry when he found out that she did not have lunch yet. When he received Bheng's text it was a good time because his lunch meeting with a client was coming to an end.
"This is a lot for me, so join me. I also don't want to have a sick husband."
Chris's heart secretly celebrated because she wanted him to eat as well. Even though he is already full, he ate again.
Nica wondered why she suddenly had an appetite. She stopped when she noticed that he is just staring at her.
"You're done?"
"I'm full by just seeing you eat well." Chris joked because the place was too silent.
"You're corny!" She said and acted as she disliked it to hide the thrill she felt. The truth is that she herself looks corny because she knows that the line he said has been old enough, but hearing it from him makes her want to shake with joy.
"You need to eat more, so don't mind me." Chris returned the food that Nica had given him.
"Do you have any other purpose for coming here?"
"I just need to look at Janice's designs—" Chrismith suddenly stopped speaking when something caught his eyes.
Nica's eyes followed where the young man was looking. To question whether she hid her drawing earlier or not, it was already too late.
"Did you made this?" Chris picked up what he saw and examined it.
"Put it down!" She took her drawing back from the man because her head suddenly heated up because she recalled what she drew.
Chris felt that her mood is not that good anymore. He said goodbye to her before she lost her appetite.
"Hi, Sir!" Bheng greeted Chris warmly as she met him in the hallway.
"Are you done eating?"
"Yes, Sir!" She answered the man quickly.
"Good and you did a great job today!"
Bheng's smile widened, even though the young man was no longer in front of her because he praised her.
"Hey, I'm glad you came!" Janice greeted Chris warmly when she saw him. "You should have said you were going here so you wouldn't have to wait for me." She said, embarrassed because she just returned from lunch.
"It's okay, I'm not in a hurry."
Janice felt joyful because she may be able to spend a long time with the young man. "Have you eaten?"
"Yes, I've eaten with your sister, thank you."
Gradually, the smile faded from Janice's lips because of Chris's last remark. She turned to a different direction to hide her annoyance and pretended to be busy arranging the paperwork.
"I'm here to personally see your works. I need to fix everything before Nica and I go abroad."
Janice felt like she was stabbed in the heart, it looks like she can no longer prevent their marriage.
Chris looked closely at Janice's sketch. His forehead furrowed and he could not help but to give a comment. "This looks good, but it was not unique like your first work?"
"I'm sorry, I'm stressed these days and it looks like it affected my work." Janice immediately made an excuse.
"Take your time, if you can't catch up until next week, maybe we will just continue that after we come back," Chris replied, understanding her situation.
"Aren't you really going to change your mind?" Janice changed the subject.
"We've already talked about it and I don't want to add to your pain, so let's not talk about that anymore." Chris' tone of voice was serious.
Janice wanted to rampage again because of too much anger when the man said goodbye to her. He was obviously avoiding her. She invited him to lunch, but he refused. What makes her even angrier was that she knew it was an acquaintance that ate lunch with him and not her sister
