Chapter 19 She's improved in acting like a victim
"WHAT do you want?" Janice angrily asked Nica when she entered her room.
"Can you help me to pack my things?" She softly requested to Janice, even her eyes look happy. Her flight with Chrismith is tomorrow and the others will follow them to witness their wedding. They will just go first to personally prepare everything for their wedding.
"Our fight is not yet over, so don't celebrate yet!" Janice exclaimed, she wants to get even with her after she insulted her.
"You're fighting even though the person you are fighting for doesn't even like you. What a pity." Nica replied and smirked when her sister's face reddened because of the anger she is trying to control.
"He'll just marry you for the company's sake, so don't be ahead of yourself. You're more pitiful because he's just going to use you. He did not choose me because he wants to maintain the good relationship we have."
Nica lifted up an eyebrow, her words cut through her, but she did not show her that she is affected. "Friendship, is that?" Nica sniggered.
"And where do relationships start with? Isn't it with friendships?" Janice lifted up an eyebrow as well as she fights with Nica's powerful stares.
"You have a point there." Nica clapped feebly.
Janice smirked, she held her head up and crossed her arms. She wanted to laugh but was cut off by her next words.
"He even told me that we can start as friends." Nica made a sad face and pretend to be hurt.
The smile on Janice's lips slowly faded and she angrily looked at her half-sister. Her sarcastic tone made her feel angrier.
"Oh, why are you mad?" Nica asked while laughing. "Don't worry, I won't forbid him to still be friends with you. That is if he would still want to be friends with you the moment he finds out your filthy nature, which is the same with your mother!"
"You, bitch!" Janice angrily attacked Nica, but the latter quickly avoided her sharp nails. "I'm smarter than you, so don't you underestimate my abilities! Don't you dare to ruin everything in my life because I will make sure to get everything you have!"
Nica laughed louder as she clapped. "And what else do I have that I should fear to be stolen by you?"
Janice clenched her jaw and could not think of what to reply.
"Wealth?" Nica asked. "You have it already, don't you? But karma came to you because of what you did and your beloved man will be mine!"
"I don't know a thing about that!" Janice denied Nica's accusation that she was the one who stole money from the company's funds.
"I'm not Dad to believe in that fake innocence of yours!"
Janice attempted to attack Nica again to hurt her, but she did something first.
"Being called a bitch suits you more than anything, so shut up!" Nica shouted at her then she slapped her hand away because she attempted to slap her face.
"What the hell are you doing to my daughter?" Margaret furiously attacked Nica and pushed her away from Janice.
"Margaret!" Alfonso yelled at his wife when he saw what she did to his youngest daughter.
Margaret was surprised by her husband's sudden appearance. She did not know that he followed her.
"Why did you do that to her?" He angrily asked her while helping Nica to stand up from the floor because she loses her balance and fell.
"She's trying to hurt my daughter." She reasoned out and put anger in her tone of voice to convince her husband.
"Is that true, Nica?"
Instead of being irritated with her father's question, Nica made a sad face. "Is it bad to approach my sister to ask for help with packing my things?"
Alfonso felt bad, particularly when he saw the sadness on his daughter's face. It was rare to see her that nice and she even asked help from her half-sister.
"Don't believe in that lady, she's just good at lying! I definitely saw her attack Janice to hurt her!"
"Is that true, Janice?" Alfonso questioned her.
Janice did not know what to answer to her father when her eyes met Nica's. She can read through her stares that she is trying and insulting her.
"Janice?" Alfonso repeated.
"Please forgive Mom, Dad. I bet it was just a mother's instinct because she saw Nica held my hand. You know that she always hurt me back then, that's why Mom reacted like that."
"Janice!?" Margaret could not believe her daughter.
"Ma, I'm okay and she was not doing anything bad to me."
Margaret wanted to protest, but when she read what her daughter thinks, she immediately changed her expression and looked at her husband.
"I'm sorry, hija, if I overreacted at the situation I found you and my daughter at." Margaret insincerely apologized to Nica.
"Ask Tinay to help you, hija, because your sister looks tired." Alfonso comforted her and led her out of her sister's room.
When the two are gone, Margaret confronted her daughter. "Now, speak!"
"Ma, I don't want her to call me your puppet again. Also, we don't have a reason that would work with Dad about why Nica wanted to hurt me."
"She's improved in acting like a victim!" Margaret said irritatedly.
"Aunt Luisa is our only hope to discredit her to Chrismith and everyone."
Margaret smirked and caressed her daughter's cheek. "Yes, that's why you should do well at expanding your paper in her. I will do my part and you should follow my plan!"
Janice smiled while imagining her and her mother's win. She is also looking forward to her life with Chris, together with their future child.
"For now, take a rest and don't stress yourself with your sister because that'll not be good for you."
Janice suddenly touched her cheek and quickly face the big mirror. She checked her forehead because there might be a wrinkle in it because she was always stressed.
"Don't worry, daughter, because you still look young and beautiful. Rest now and avoid that girl for the time being. We'll get back at her in the right time."
Janice looks like a child who received candy by the joy on her face. She hugged her mother before she decided to take a bath to relax her body.
"Are you ready?" Chrismith asked Nica while taking her carry-on luggage from her.
Nica just nodded her head, hesitation is still on her face. She knows there is someone who will be added to the people who dislike her when she steps afoot abroad. However, she needs to end the fight for herself. She does not want to be alone anymore and to look useless in the eyes of the people who know her.
"Do we really have to stay at your vacation house in the U.S?" Nica asked. They have already talked about it and Chris insisted that she meet and spend time with his parents. He wants her to be on good terms with his parents even though they are only married on paper.
"Stop worrying, my mom is a kind person and she's also the one who requested for us to stay there. They want to know you more."
Nica just nodded her head with her mouth shut. When they are on the airplane, he made her sit near the window. They share with his earphone and listen to music he downloaded on his phone together.
"You also like music?" Nica asked, amused. She never thought that Chris has the same hobby like her.
"Listening to music will help you lessen your worries." He simply answers her.
"Thank you!" Nica slowly closed her eyes and she did know she fell asleep.
"This song is dedicated to the girl who's always sitting alone there." A baritone voice played on her mind.
Nica opened her eyes as she woke up from a dream. She thought she was in the resto, that singer's hoarse voice was even fresh in her hearing. She held her chest as she feels her heartbeat inside it when she recalled the lips of the young man she admired in that resto and bar. She sat straight when she remembered where she is and who she is with. She sighed and when she looked at the person beside her, he is asleep. The surrounding is dark because the lights are off, but she can see his face. From his closed eyes, her gaze went down to his lips and it stayed there. She shook her head when she remembered the man who sang. ''Impossible!'' she whispers in her mind.
"It can't be!" She mumbled when she noticed the similarity between that man's lips and his, and their… voice? She quickly turned away when the young man moved. Maybe he felt that someone is staring at his face. She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep. Not many seconds passed when she felt his hands on her shoulder. He carefully held her head and rested it on his shoulder. Her heart began to beat faster.
Chris smiled as he felt that the young lady had gone back to sleeping peacefully. He felt relief and contentment as he holds her in his arms.
