Chapter 25 Pleaded
"MA'AM, Miss Janice doesn't want to open the door and she said that she doesn't want to eat yet."
Nica wanted to raise an eyebrow as she heard what the maid said. They were at the table for lunch and Chris' mother called her sister to join them.
"What kind of drama is on her mind this time?" Nica whispered to herself as she looked away.
"Are you okay?" Chris asked worriedly to the girl.
Nica smiled at the young man before standing up. "I'll just call my sister."
"Yes, you better call her, Hija. I already talked to her earlier and told her that she should apologize to you and not to me." Luisa agreed with her. Luisa also felt sorry for Janice earlier, she cried and said that she regretted what she had done. She sighed as she remembered what Janice had said earlier.
"I'm sorry, Auntie if I'd looked down on you. I'm just doing what I think was right to change Chris's mind and marry me instead."
Luisa sadly watched Janice cry and just let her speak.
"It's true that I tried to seduce Chris last night because I love your son so much. You understand me, don't you?"
Luisa nodded her head at the girl with a forced smile in response. She could feel her heart bleeding now.
"Isn't that what you want for Chris?" Janice wiped the tears from her eyes as the lady nodded. "Then can you do something for Chris to choose me instead? And please, don't believe in Nica, she's just willing to do anything because she doesn't want me to be happy. She hates me because our father loves me more and she swore before that she would steal the man that I will love."
Luisa stared at Nica after remembering the last thing Janice had said.
"Nica..."
Nica's attempt to stand stopped when Chris's mother called her. She seemed to have something to say.
"Ah, it's nothing," said Luisa. "You may go now and talk to her."
"I'll come with you!" Chrismith accompanied Nica. He did not want her to face her sister alone. He was worried that Janice might hurt her again.
Luisa's gaze sadly followed the two turnings away. Obviously, her son really loves Nica and he does not want her to be hurt again. She feels sad for her son because she could not help but believe what Janice had said earlier. His son is kind and could not play with women's feelings, she does not want her son to just be used by Nica.
"You should be the one to knock." Nica smiled as she commanded the young man.
Janice frowned when she heard another knock on her door. She was annoyed with the maid because she did not understand what she had said earlier. But, suddenly, her mood changed when the person behind the door spoke.
"Janice, can we talk?" Chris called her again. In less than a second, the door opened.
"Chris, aren't you mad at me anymore?" Janice immediately asked him. This was all she had been waiting for, to talk to him ever since she locked herself in her room.
"I know what I did was wrong, but I was just carried away by the anger I was feeling. You already knew what my sister's habit is. She loves to play with my emotions and I lose because I was pissed off by her teasing." She gave a long explanation to the young man.
"You still shouldn't have done that, Janice. What if that coffee was just freshly served?"
"I know, and I finally thought about that, so don't get mad please!" She took one of the young man's palms and gripped it using both of her hands.
"I'm not the one you should apologize to."
"But even if I do apologize to her, I know she won't accept it." Her voice sounded sad.
"You're still sisters, Janice, and she won't be here if your thought was right." He spoke gently to her. All he just wanted was to end the quarrel between the two.
Janice frowned and her irritation doubled when she saw her sister smiling from behind Chris.
"Don't force her, Chris. She's used to hurting me." Nica sounded sad, but a playful smile was on her lips. Only Janice could see the expression on her face because Chris has his back turned on her.
"Will you please stop? Do you really want to ruin me forever in the eyes of the person who is very special to me?" Janice is really furious at Nica that she wants to seize her eyes.
"Janice, calm down, we're here to fix what's between the two of you and not to make a mess anymore." Chris tried to calm down in front of his friend even though he really did not like the words she was throwing at Nica.
Janice turned to hide the anger that she could not hold back from registering on her face. She exhaled to calm herself before speaking. "That woman has completely deceived you, Chris."
"Look, Janice, you're the only one making the situation worse. Nica didn't do or say anything to make me side with her. I've seen it by myself and heard enough. You're a friend and your sister will be my wife so I wish you could get along." Chris clarified the situation.
Janice, on the other hand, seemed to realize that she was childish when she felt the irritation in the young man's voice.
Nica secretly smiled when her sister confronted them and was forced to humble herself for him.
"I'm sorry if I prolong this mess. I didn't do it because I meant or wanted to hurt you, Nica. I'm going to do it for Chris and Aunt Luisa."
Chris smiled at Janice while Nica smirked.
"Can you leave us first?" Nica did not wait for Janice to finish her drama for Chris.
"Are you sure?" Chris asked Nica hesitantly.
"It's better than the two of us talk alone to fix this because I know how high my sister's pride is," Nica replied and gave the young man a smile.
"Don't worry, even though she hasn't apologized yet, I forgive her." Nica continued when the young man still did not want to move and just gazed at her.
Chris smiled this time. He kissed her on the cheek before turning away.
Nica touched her cheek where the man's lip hit. "Did you see that?" she asked Janice with a smile. "I think I'm in love with him already!"
"Stop pretending 'cause he's not here anymore!" She hissed, "You don't have a heart and a brain so don't be ambitious just because of the kiss, besides, it is just on your cheek."
Nica frowned and ignored her sister's sarcasm. "So, that's why my work is better than yours that you stole it? How should we define cleverness?"
Nica walked around on Janice. "You're the one that must not be ambitious because you'll be a loser like your mother for as long as I live!"
Janice felt her ear turning red with anger. She clasped her hands to prevent herself from scratching Nica's face.
"Like your mother, you'll also die first and all that you have will be mine!" Janice's eyes glowered and the veins in her neck tightened.
Nica laughed softly and shook her head to the left while staring intently at her sister. "I will make sure that Chris and I will have a child that will inherit everything in case I die before you."
"We'll see!" Janice's defiant answer to Nica. "If you only saw how Chris' body reacts every time I attract him." She said arrogantly.
"Just go on, grab the title of the spinning paper that your mother gave us." She teases Janice's response.
"Fuck you!" Janice released it crispy cheaply. She clenched her fists to prevent herself from hurting Nica.
"You must calm first so they don't see your horn right away." Nica laughed and turned her back on her sister. Before finally leaving her room, she looked at her. "Get out of there and stop the drama so you won't be noticed by them."
Chris and his parents were both smiling as the siblings approached the table one after the other. The two acted as if they had already reconciled in front of Chrismith's family.
The next day, Chris and Nica left early for a free taste cake and to choose what to use for their wedding.
"I like this one!"
A dimple appeared on Chris's cheek as he smiled and stared at Nica. She was like a child that has just tasted that kind of cake.
"Why are you being like that as you look at me?"
Before answering, Chris removed a few strands of her hair that covered her cheek. "You look like a child while eating a cake." He said as if it was a joke.
Nica quickly wiped her mouth with a tissue while staring at Chrismith's lips. She just feels like staring at it. He smiles like he has something in mind.
"Ma'am, there's still," the coordinator commented. Watching the two was thrilling.
"Huh, where?" Nica looked for a mirror in her bag, but Chris stopped her.
"Let me."
Before Nica could predict what the young man was going to do, his soft lips touched the side of hers. She did not know how many seconds his kiss lasted. She could still feel her hot tongue as he removed the chocolate left there.
Her sense only returned when the gay man who assisted them screamed because of the thrill.
"My gosh, you guys are probably the cutest and sweetest couple I have met!" The gay said. He quivered, even more, when Chrismith smiled at him.
"She's my beloved, after all!" Chris put his arm around her shoulders.
"That's exaggerating!" She said to the gay to hide her true feelings. It seemed normal for him to kiss her in front of other people. He had kissed her a few times, but she could not bring herself to get mad at him.
Chris was happy as he drove home with the young lady who is sleeping next to him. They finished their appointments late at night and he let her sleep because she seems like she was tired from their walk all day. He let out a low whistle as the song soared on his car stereo. He feels that little by little, he is gaining the young lady's heart and their relationship has become more realistic.
