Chapter 26 I'll make sure your heart will be torn in pieces
"How's the feeling princess for a few days here?" Margaret sarcastically asked Nica when the two of them were left alone. She and her husband arrived earlier because their wedding is the day after tomorrow.
Nica gave an insulting smile to her stepmother. "Isn't it obvious for you to ask me anyway?"
Margaret lifted up the corner of her lip and raised her right eyebrow. She glared angrily at Nica when she smirked at her.
"Surely you can enjoy having fun, just don't forget that everything you have now, will have an exchange someday. I'll make sure your heart will be torn in pieces." Margaret threatened Nica.
Those words gave Nica unpleasant feelings, her stepmother was like a witch casting a spell before her. She quickly turned and left her even though she is not yet done with talking.
"Margaret, did you have a fight with someone?" Luisa asked her friend when she saw the anger on her face. She saw her standing alone in the living room and looking outside through the window.
Margaret immediately fixed herself before smiling at her friend. "Luisa, I didn't have a fight with someone, it's just that, Alfonso's arrogant daughter ruined my day."
"You're talking about Nica?" Luisa looked around.
"She's such a blabbermouth, boasting about how she was able to steal the man my daughter loves!" She did not bother to hide her anger from her friend.
Luisa felt sad for her friend. She is also a mother, thus she knows very well the feeling of knowing that your child is hurt. It also hurts for a mother to see their child hurting.
"I know you can't also do anything for now because of your husband's condition. But I am expecting from your promise that you will do away to separate them as fast as possible. You're also a mother and you know my daughter more than any other girl." Margaret said to her friend. She could see in her eyes the hint of hesitation on continuing with their plan made when she and Nica have not met each other yet.
Nica quickly left her hiding place after hearing the two's plan against her. She felt sadness, she thought the kindness Chrismith's mother showed to her when Janice poured coffee on her, was really real.
"Wake up, self. I'd reminded you countless times not to trust people, particularly those ones acquainted with your stepmother!" Nica said to herself while looking at the flowers in the garden. She felt like her world has once again fallen down.
"Is he also the same as them?" she asked to herself when she recalled Chrismith.
"He's the one your stepmother will use to shatter your heart. So, you should just listen to me and stop competing with your sister because you'll just lose in the end anyway." A part of her mind lectured herself.
"But I can feel in his kisses and hugs that he really loves me?" she disagreed with her mind.
"He said he likes you, that's quite different from love."
Nica frowned as she debated with herself. She picked a flower and imitated what she saw on tv.
"He loves me?" she whispered to herself while holding the last petal of the flower.
"You believe in something like that, that's why you're always deceived and a loser when it comes to those two bitches!" Nica's conscience scolded her.
"But I've already sworn that I'll never let that two-step on me again! Her daughter will be crushed first before me!" she growled in her mind while holding the petal firmly. She inhaled air to calm herself and exhaled it.
"That's so deep, eh."
Nica abruptly turned when someone spoke from behind.
"I've been watching you from the terrace, do you have a problem?" Chris asked in a worried voice when he approached her.
"Oh, Chris." Nica greeted the young man emotionlessly.
"Want something to drink?" He offered to the young lady when he felt the sadness in her voice.
Nica stared at the young man before nodding her head. They have finished their dinner and she is not sleepy yet.
"Are you worried about our wedding that's why you're acting like that?" Chris asked the young lady while pouring liquor on her glass.
"Maybe," Nica's short reply. She averted her eyes from his eyes because he was staring intently at her.
"So, there's something else that's messing with your mind. Does Aunt Margaret has something to do with it?"
Instead of answering the young man, she swallowed the glass' drink. "Will you stop asking?" The tone of Nica's voice became arrogant. She is like that when something is bothering her and she regretted agreeing to have a drink with the young man.
"Whatever is bothering you, I hope it won't affect our wedding." The young man said in a serious voice and swallowed all the glass' drink. They are both silent as they continue to drink and feel each other's presence.
"Can I join?" Janice asked Chris with a smile when she saw them drinking red wine.
Nica felt irritated when she heard her half-sister's shrill voice. She is not drunk yet, but she suddenly felt dizzy when she saw how she smiles at Chris.
"Is it required to wear make-up in times of sleep?" Nica said sarcastically.
Janice glared at her half-sister and fixed the strap of her nightwear. She purposely beautified herself before she went close to them when she saw them drinking.
"What the heck, your perfume hurts my nose. Don't you think you put too much? How could you seduce Chris then?" Nica continued to get on her half-sister's nerves.
"I planned to go out to entertain myself, but when I saw you here, I decided not to go and changed my clothes." She calmly explained to Nica. She knows that she just wants her to be ashamed in front of the young man and she would not let that happen.
"Really? I didn't know your mother allows you to go out in the nighttime." Nica mocked her half-sister.
"Ahm, Janice you can sit here." Chris stood up from his seat to cut off the two's conversation before they get pissed off by each other.
"No!" Janice stopped Chris from moving. "You don't need to change your seat."
Nica stood up with a smirk on her face and approached Chris. She held him on the shoulder and motioned him to go back sitting.
Chris swallowed his own saliva before speaking as he slowly sat down. "But this sofa is for two persons on—"
Chris could not continue the rest of his sentence when Nica suddenly sat on his lap.
"Nica, what are you doing?" Janice sounded like she was scolding her as her older sister. She struggles to stay calm and convince herself to not be jealous.
"You want to join us, right?" she said to Janice with a sweet smile. "You know this is only good for two. It'll be quite rude of my babe if you're the one standing. But now you can sit."
Janice is secretly fuming, she keeps herself from pulling her sister's hair to get her away from Chrismith. What made her even more irritated is the delight on Chris' face and he wrapped his arm around her sister's waist. Her mind could not accept that the young man might actually like her sister. While they are busy acting lovey-dovey in front of her, she gets a glass.
"That's enough, you might get drunk." Chris took the glass from Nica before she could drink its liquor.
Nica pouted because of what the young man did. But before he could empty the glass, she took it and emptied it herself. He smiled at her and she knows he is also thinking about an indirect kiss. She looked at her half-sister when she stood up.
"You've got enough already?" she asked, almost like a sneer.
"I suddenly feel like vomiting, so I'll leave you two now." She replied sarcastically and quickly went near Chris. "Good night!" She whispered seductively in the young man's ear, then, her lips touched his cheek.
Nica felt a strange kind of anger when she saw what her sister did. But she did not let it show and pretended that she was not affected. "What about me, won't you give me a good night kiss too?"
Janice just rolled her eyeballs at her sister and intentionally twitched her hip while walking.
"What are you looking at?" She rebuked the young man.
Chris shrugged his shoulders while smiling and returned his gaze at the young lady. "Are you jealous?" he teased her.
"In your dreams!" she replied, annoyed. She was about to get down from his lap, but his embrace on her waist tightened.
"Not so fast, Babe!" The teasing smile on the young man's thin lips never gets erased. He rested his chin on the young lady's shoulder and both of his arms are wrapped in her waist now.
"Chris, my sister's gone already, so you can let go of me now." She rebuked him with a lack of strength when she felt him sniff on her neck. She did not know why, but she suddenly felt dizzy and weak. She also felt that the young man's embrace was loosening.
"I'm sorry." Chris shook his head and helped Nica stand up straight.
"Why are you two letting yourself get drunk?" Luisa rebuked them, it was obvious that they are drunk.
Nica forced herself to clearly see who is the person with Chris' mother. Her stepmother and half-sister are there. She held on to Chris' arm when her eyes felt heavy again, but it seems like they feel the same way.
"I'll take care of sending my sister in her room."
Nica could not disagree when Janice assisted her.
"Luisa, I suggest you let Chris sleep on the sofa because they are both drunk," Margaret suggested to her friend while helping her help the young man.
