Chapter 28 She's the one destined for my Son
Gregory approached them to clear things up. Even though he does not know the root of this problem, he could not allow his son to marry a different woman.
Margaret wiped her tears before facing the husband of her friend. "But how about my daughter whom your son touched last night?"
"I know my son," Gregory said whilst staring intently at Janice.
Janice is unable to meet Chris' father's stares. She felt like he was investigating her.
"It's already here and your daughter also liked what happened between her and my son. And according to what I heard, they were both drunk last night. Anyhow, we can't destroy their relationship because of a third party." Even though Gregory did not hit directly to the point, he knows that they understood what he meant.
"Nica is also your daughter and she is the one destined for my son," Gregory added.
Janice could not bear the shame, thus she ran back to her room. It now turns out that she is to blame if something really happened between Chris and her. It is also obvious that the young man's father prefers Nica to marry his son.
Luisa sadly watches her friend who also stood up from her seat to follow Janice.
"If it is real that something happened between me and Janice and it came with the expected consequence, I promise that I won't neglect the child." Chris smiled at his father and he is really thankful to him.
"I know how hard it is to weigh, I hope you won't be like me," Alfonso said with a hint of sadness, referring to having two children with different women. His heart was still divided over the decisions he could choose from, but Gregory had a point. The happiness of one of his daughters must be sacrificed so as not to aggravate the problems they face in business and family.
"Excuse me!" Nica stood up. "I'm sorry, but my head still aches, so I'll take a rest first." She excused herself to them. She acted indifferent to what they would think and feel.
Luisa left the two men as well to let them talk in-depth.
After some time, Luisa went back to the living room. When she saw that his husband is alone now, she approached him.
"Let your son decide for himself now because he is already mature enough," Gregory said without looking at his wife.
Luisa stared at her husband, it seems like he was not that affected by what was happening.
"It's enough that I had him follow an agreement and I'm happy because the lady he had chosen is exactly my liking."
Luisa's forehead furrowed and she stared at her husband. "Is there something you're not telling me?"
"Do you remember that friend of mine when we first met?" Gregory expectantly asked his wife.
Luisa's eyes widened as she stared at her husband. Who would forget the day when she and her husband first met in a mall?
"Hey, Miss!"
Luisa remembered someone she did not know calling out to her. She looks kind and cheerful, along with a man who was like a nerd.
"Can you be the girlfriend of my friend here?" the lady, who talked to her then, added. She said it in a joking manner, but her face looked serious.
"I know you remember her," Gregory said to his wife, who was in deep thoughts and smiling.
"Don't tell me..?" she said to her husband in disbelief when she remembered the lady, whom she did not know that much because they moved to a different place, but she was the reason why she knew her husband in the present.
"Yes, she is the mother of Nica," Gregory replied to his wife while nodding his head. At first, he did not know that Alfonso's deceased wife is his old friend. Because of time, he had nearly forgotten her until he met Nica. She looks like her mother, thus he remembered and investigated her life since then.
Luisa smiled and hugged her husband. She is happy because Nica's mother's little joke came true today.
"If ever us three's path never crosses again, I wish our future child's paths would instead." A friend from her and her husband's past joked.
Luisa nostalgically reminisces about her and her husband's memories with Nica's mother. She did not expect that fate would grant their wishes for their future child then. But, Luisa quickly felt sad again when she recalled that Nica just became more distant from her because of something she misunderstood.
"Nica is a kind girl, you'll also get along, but don't rush it because she doesn't trust that easily." Gregory consoled his wife when he read what was on her mind.
"I hurt her feelings so much because I was more in favor of her sister with marrying our son," Luisa said in a sad voice and sighed.
Gregory rested his arm on his wife's shoulders and comforted her. He does not listen to gossips, but he did not like the made-up stories he would hear from his wife's friend about the daughter of his deceased friend.
In Janice's room, she is trying to control herself to not make a big noise while causing havoc out of anger.
"Janice, Darlin', that's enough!" Margaret hugged her daughter, who was making a mess while crying, from the back. The pillows and blankets are anywhere on the floor and if only they are in their own house, many things would have certainly been broken.
"I wanna die now!" Janice sobbed and slid to sit on the floor. She does not care about how she looks right now because all hopes that Chris will marry her have crumbled.
"Stop it!" She held both of her daughter's shoulders and shook it. "Don't be silly just because of a man. Remember that while you're still alive, there's hope!" She scolded her daughter.
"But Chris is my one and only life!" She yelled at her mother and took out her anger on her.
Margaret slapped her daughter's cheek to wake her up from her delusions. "You owe your life to me, so don't ever waste your life for a man!"
Janice was in a daze for a moment whilst looking at her mother, shocked by what she did.
"Remember how and why you met Chrismith!" She pressed her index finger on her daughter's forehead with irritation.
After seconds, she shook her mother's hand and angrily confronted her. "Do you really see me as your daughter?" She asked with a stern face whilst pointing at herself.
Margaret was dumbfounded this time and she could not find the right words to reply to her daughter.
"All my life, you are using me for your own selfishness?" She asked as if she was interrogating her.
Margaret's mouth opened, but no words came out of it. She reached for her daughter in an attempt to embrace her, but she stepped backward like she was afraid of her.
"What's gotten into you and you're thinking about those things?" She talked to her daughter calmly.
"That's right!" She laughed bitterly whilst glaring at her mother angrily. "You befriended Aunt Luisa when you knew she has a son."
"It's better for you to take a rest and I'll take care of fixing the mess that happened." Margaret changed the subject.
"Enough, 'Ma!" Janice's voice became high. "This is all your fault!"
"Janice!?" she sounded like she could not believe her and she wanted her to stop. "You're just hurt right now, so I understand." She suddenly calms down when she saw the anger on her daughter's face.
"If you weren't greedy and you didn't desire more money using me, then I wouldn't have met him!" Janice continued to find fault in her mother. Regardless that she was also mad.
"Stop!" She pressed her teeth together and clenched her fists to prevent herself from hurting her daughter.
"Isn't that true?" She asked sarcastically. "You know I'm already hurting, but what's still on your mind is that I should keep myself close to Chris! You know that I'll be more hurt, but money is more important to you than how I feel!"
"I said stop!" She pulled her daughter's hair and pushed her onto the bed. "You have no right to complain and talk to me like that because you owe your life to me!"
Janice cried and sobbed whilst her face is buried on the pillow. The resentment she was feeling doubled as she had proven to herself that her mother loves wealth more than her.
Margaret seemed to realize how harsh she was toward her daughter. She hugged her and started to become tender to her again, but she ignores her.
"Leave me alone!" Janice said in a low voice, but her anger could be felt in it. She removed her mother's hand on her shoulder.
"You know I'm doing all of this for your future and for your happiness," Margaret explained to her daughter, but she remained quiet. After a few seconds have passed, she decided to leave her for now and confronted her husband next.
Margaret spotted her husband in their room, he was quietly sitting on the edge of the bed.
"I couldn't believe you'll favor your daughter with the bitch than our daughter!"
Alfonso met with his wife's raging eyes. She could almost breathe fire on him only if that was possible.
"What kind of father are you?" Margaret continued to find fault in her husband. "What face would our daughter give to our acquaintances, especially in the company, if she becomes pregnant?"
Alfonso impatiently stood up and confronted his wife with an angrier face. "Everything is your fault, so don't you dare blame me for what's happening with your daughter right now!"
Margaret stepped backward because of shock and fear that her husband might physically hurt her. However, she does not accept defeat yet and she does not want to admit that she was the wrong one between the two of them.
"You know it was wrong, but you condone and even supported her actions. What kind of mother are you to put not only your daughter but our whole family, in an unsafe situation? Have you thought of the shame Nica would receive the moment you obtain you and your daughter's desire? Do you really see my other daughter as your own as well, or were you just putting up an act in front of me?"
Margaret swallowed her own saliva and she could not find the right answer to her husband's queries.
Alfonso turned and the disappointment in his wife registered on his face. "Don't add any in this problem. It's enough that one of them let go so our business won't completely sink." Alfonso said before leaving his wife in the room.
Margaret threw a pillow on the door when it closed. She glared at it even though her husband is out of sight already.
