Chapter Seventy-Eight
Chapter Seventy-Eight
Bella also guessed Max's discomfort, but she thought that her husband would be angry and loudly scold her, which would start an argument between the two. Bella will use that as an excuse to return and not continue to stay in the same place with Max anymore.
That was the idea she had come up with as soon as Max handed her the card to use. However, Bella hadn't thought that her husband would actually feel remorseful and guilty about abandoning her last night.
Max's humility and patience surprised Bella quite a bit because it didn't align with what she had previously thought; someone like Max wouldn't usually show deference to someone weaker.
When Max saw Bella return without anything, he immediately asked, "So, where are the things you bought?"
Bella let go of him, excitedly saying, "I gave the address to the staff, so in a few days, the items I bought today will be delivered."
As she spoke, she secretly observed Max's facial expression, seeing his face turn ashen but still trying to act like everything was fine, making her want to laugh but she had to hold it back.
"How long are we staying here? Actually, there are still many things I want to see and buy, one morning of shopping isn't enough to satisfy me," Bella said, pretending that she wanted to continue shopping more.
Max's face turned even paler, and he hurriedly interrupted Bella, "Wait, Bella, I thought you were in a bad mood this morning and went shopping to feel better. Spending such a large amount of money in just one morning still isn't enough for you?"
Max's feelings were very complex at this moment; his card certainly had a lot of money, and he often gave it to Pearl to use, but this was the first time he had given it to his wife, and she had shocked him with her incredible spending speed. However, since marrying Bella, he hadn't bought her anything, and besides feeling guilty, Max wanted to use this as a way to win Bella's favor... All for the sake of getting the company, spending a large sum for Bella wasn't impossible.
Bella seemed indifferent to her husband's complexion, shrugged, and said, "Why not? You said you wanted to make it up to me, didn't you? Or do you want to go back on your word?"
She looked at Max with a dissatisfied expression, showing suspicion, causing Max to soften his tone, "It's not that I want to go back on my word... It's just that I think you've shopped enough, and you don't usually attend gatherings like parties."
"True, I don't usually attend gatherings, but that was before. Now I have a job, I have my own work, my own relationships, parties, and networking events... Did you forget that I'm the daughter of the chairman of the company you work for?" Bella spoke gently, but each word seemed to remind Max that she was different now, and he was not allowed to forget her status.
Previously, Bella chose to be a full-time housewife because she loved Max and wanted to be a good wife, a spiritual support for him. But no matter how hard Bella tried to build their home, Max was the one who broke it, and the ironic thing was that Max didn't know he had ruined their marriage.
The forced smile on Max's face became rigid, his complexion turned pale; if she hadn't mentioned it, he might have forgotten who his wife was. It was only in the past year that Max had seen the change in Bella, but three years before that, Bella was just a foolish, easily exploited, and plain housewife in his eyes.
The atmosphere in the room became tense, and Max quickly changed the subject, saying, "Actually, I don't think it's necessary to shop here; we can also shop at big malls when we get home... You know, I met with a partner last night... maybe we need to go back today."
Hearing this, Bella secretly laughed because that was exactly what she wanted, but she couldn't show her happiness, she pretended to be surprised.
"Why? We've only been here for two days... but if you're busy, we have to go back." Although Bella had just shown arrogance in front of Max, she still had to play the role of an understanding and caring wife regarding her husband's work.
Bella's understanding and obedience made Max easily lower his guard and continue to deeper into what he was doing.
This evening, the two got on a plane and left Hawaii. Although the person who suggested returning was Max, he was extremely upset because his purpose of going to Hawaii had not yet been fulfilled and the money on the card was taken by Bella spending wastefully, the more he thought about it, the worse Max's mood became.
On the other hand, Bella was extremely cheerful and in a good mood. As soon as she boarded the plane, she relaxed and fell asleep. Before drifting off, Bella heard Max say, "Next time, I’ll spend more time with you, Bella."
Bella felt a sarcastic smile in her heart but lightly smiled at her husband. "I think this is the last time, dear." However, her words were completely drowned out by an announcement and the voices of other passengers.
Max didn’t hear her clearly and asked, "Huh? What did you say? I didn’t hear you."
Bella just smiled softly, shook her head, pulled down her sleep mask, and drifted into sleep. It was rare for her to feel this relaxed. Although there wasn't any argument as she had imagined, the result was still that they returned home this evening.
Seeing his wife sleep comfortably without any concern for him made Max feel extremely uncomfortable and angry. The frustration in him, with no way to release it, left him in no mood to eat. Even when a beautiful flight attendant showed care, Max didn’t hesitate to scold her harshly.
Bella, not yet fully asleep, could still hear what Max was saying. She turned to the side and smirked. She could guess how terrible Max's mood was, but the more furious he became, the happier Bella felt. However, her joy was not because she had successfully angered Max but because, no matter how angry he got, he had no outlet for his rage and had to endure it himself.
On the way home, Max's silence only made Bella more comfortable as she didn’t want to talk to him either. Perhaps because he was too angry but didn’t want Bella to notice, as soon as they stepped into the house, Max said, "I’m tired, so I’m going to rest in the room first. Do whatever you want. Don’t bother me."
Without waiting for Bella to respond, Max turned and went to his room.
This trip wasn’t enjoyable for either of them, especially Max. He neither achieved his goal nor was able to stop his wife from spending a large amount of money shopping. Although Bella was in a good mood, over the past two days, she constantly had to find ways to stay away from Max without raising his suspicion. Without the "help" of Pearl and Levi, the outcome wouldn’t have been this favorable.
Bella looked at her husband's leaving back and just shrugged and pouted, his bad mood had nothing to do with her. The flight wasn't long but it also made her feel tired. Before taking a shower, Bella ordered food on the app.
As soon as she heard the doorbell, Bella, having just finished her shower, hurried to the door, thinking the food had arrived. When she opened the door, her food arrived, but it wasn’t the delivery person who brought it.
"Why are you here? Wait, why are you delivering my food? You work at the restaurant I just ordered from? I didn’t know you worked there." Bella was so surprised that she was bewildered.
Levi laughed, “You seem to like asking other people questions all the time. I'm not the delivery person, I came here by chance and saw a food delivery person standing in front of your door so I paid. Fast food like this is not good for your health. You haven't had dinner yet, right?"
Bella also thought Levi couldn’t be a delivery person since no delivery person would drive a supercar to deliver fast food to a customer. If he really were a delivery person, no customer would be richer than him. But in her mind, Bella imagined Levi as a delivery person getting scolded by a customer, wondering how he would react.
He might just buy the customer’s house and kick them out.
"Aren’t you going to take the food?" Levi waved his hand when he saw her standing there, stunned, without responding.
As Bella was about to take the food, Levi gently pushed her aside, casually walked into the house as if he owned it, placed the food on the living room table, and comfortably sat down on the sofa.
Max was still at home, so Bella anxiously said, "You need to leave now. Max is home, and he’s resting in his room."
"So what? You afraid your husband will be upset with me, so you want to kick me out? If not, why are you urging me to leave?" Levi frowned at her, his eyes and voice cold and sharp.
Bella didn’t understand why Levi was upset. She just didn’t want to create more trouble. She had never refused Levi; in fact, she was very cooperative and compliant with his demands. But everything had to be done while Max wasn’t around.
