Chapter Eighty-Four
Chapter Eighty-Four
For the past four days, Max had been intentionally preparing a cup of hot milk for Bella every evening, citing concern for her health and sleep. Bella, though suspicious, couldn't pinpoint exactly what she was worried about. Initially, Bella was reluctant to accept the milk, but eventually, she figured a cup of milk couldn't harm her, so she accepted it cheerfully from her husband.
Seeing Bella drink, Max smiled and said, "Your father mentioned that we need to have a comprehensive health check-up next week. Even if work is busy, you need to take better care of your health."
Max's care and attentiveness made Bella uncomfortable, but she just smiled it off and closed the door to continue her work. Bella couldn't determine if her health decline was due to an increased workload or her irregular eating habits recently.
Right in the office, Bella felt stomach pains—initially mild cramps that she could tolerate, but they soon intensified, making her break out in a cold sweat.
Lauriel, who was sitting nearby, noticed Bella's abnormal and quickly asked, "Bella, what's wrong? You look so pale and you're sweating a lot."
Bella felt her head spinning and her vision blurring, but she forced a smile to hide her condition from her colleagues. "I'm... fine, really... just... feeling a bit tired... I need to..."
Each time she spoke, the abdominal cramps grew more severe and terrifying. Bella realized that staying in the office might draw more attention from other colleagues, so she told Lauriel, "I think I need to go to the hospital... right now... please tell Diana for me."
"Are you sure you're okay? I'll go with you. Come on." Ignoring Bella's refusal, Lauriel quickly hailed a taxi and helped Bella into the car. "Take us to the nearest hospital, my friend suddenly developed a fever. Please hurry."
Bella's cold sweat intensified, her breathing became labored, and her complexion turned ghostly white, drained of life. The abdominal cramps were torturous, as if someone were repeatedly stabbing her in the stomach.
"I'm dying... it hurts so much..." In her delirium, Bella kept mumbling about wanting to die from the unbearable pain. It felt like she was on the brink of death from the excruciating abdominal cramps. Before completely losing consciousness, Bella vaguely heard Lauriel's encouraging voice urging her to hold on, "Stay strong, Bella. We're almost at the hospital..." Then, Bella descended into darkness, hearing nothing more.
When Bella opened her eyes again, she saw a white ceiling, and everything around her was predominantly white.
"I..."
"Bella, you finally woke up. Do you know how worried I was? You suddenly had severe stomach pain and then fainted. Stay put, I need to inform the doctor." Lauriel quickly said and left the room, leaving Bella alone.
In the quiet room, Bella was confused about what had happened to her. She had never experienced such intense stomach pain before. Indeed, she had been focusing on work and neglecting healthy eating for the past six months, but it couldn't have led to such a severe situation requiring hospitalization.
While Bella was lost in thought, the door opened, and she assumed Lauriel had brought the doctor.
"Lauriel, the doctor—? Why are you here?" But when she saw that the person entering wasn't Lauriel, Bella raised her eyebrows in surprise.
Levi looked at Bella's pale face and frail appearance on the hospital bed, showing no emotion as he approached her. "I'm the one who should be asking, why you're in the hospital?"
"Huh? I... I don't know either. I was working in the office when suddenly my stomach cramped up and hurt intensely, my whole body broke out in a cold sweat. Lauriel brought me here. I have no idea why my stomach hurt so badly that I had to be hospitalized." Bella explained.
Hearing Bella's detailed explanation, Levi said nothing and just stared at her until Lauriel led the doctor into the room, he took his eyes off her.
"Ms. Bella, how are you feeling now?" The doctor, upon seeing Levi, was startled but quickly regained composure to ask about Bella's health condition.
Both Bella and Lauriel did not notice the brief flash of surprise in the doctor's eyes, so they didn't sense anything unusual.
"Now I feel better... Doctor, what exactly is wrong with me? I had severe stomach pain, but I've never experienced anything like this before." Bella hurriedly asked, confused about her current condition.
The doctor was about to speak but stole a glance at Levi before turning to Lauriel and asking, "What is your relationship with Miss Bella?"
"Me? I'm her colleague, is there a problem-?" Before she could finish, Lauriel's phone rang. She read the message and quickly told Bella,
“I have already reported your situation to Diana so don't worry. As for this man, I called the nearest phone number on your phone. Now that your boyfriend has arrived, I have to go back to the company immediately.”
With that, Lauriel turned and left the room, leaving an awkward atmosphere for the remaining three people.
The doctor cleared his throat twice and began to speak, "Miss Bella, such severe abdominal pain and intense cramping are really dangerous. Even if you don't want to get pregnant, you shouldn't use such a large amount of contraceptives."
Hearing this, Levi frowned and looked at Bella, then turned to the doctor and asked, "Contraceptives?"
"Yes, sir. More precisely, I'm not sure what type of medication she used, but it contains components similar to emergency contraceptives but much more dangerous." The doctor spoke very seriously. "I don't know how long Miss Bella has been using this medication, but if she continues, her uterus will be completely ruined. Her uterus is already affected."
The doctor's words hit Bella like a cold wind, making her body involuntarily curl up. Contraceptives? Uterine damage? Not wanting to get pregnant? What on earth is happening to her?
After the doctor's words, Bella was too bewildered to process what he said, staring blankly until Levi called her name.
"Bella."
"Huh? What? The doctor is gone?" Only then did Bella realize the doctor had left a while ago, leaving just her and Levi in the room.
Seeing Bella's bewildered expression, Levi didn't know how he felt, but he was indeed angry.
"What kind of medication did you take?" Levi's cold voice was so intimidating that Bella didn't dare look directly at him.
But Bella honestly didn't know. She shook her head and said, "I don't know, I really don't. I'm telling the truth."
"Do you really not know, or are you pretending not to know?" Levi asked coldly, more like he was interrogating her.
Faced with Levi's baseless questioning and cold attitude, along with her own fatigue, Bella responded irritably, "Do you think I'm stupid enough not to know what kind of medication I'm taking? Besides, you think I'd be dumb enough to take something that would ruin my uterus and destroy my health?"
Levi had come, but instead of offering comforting words, he interrogated her with a cold tone and an unpleasant attitude.
Levi sat down on the bed, looking at her for a moment before saying, “If you don't say it, I really think you're that stupid. Tell me, what you've been doing lately, what you've eaten and drank, and when you've gone to the bathroom, you have to tell me."
"Is that really necessary?" Bella didn't know how to respond.
Levi looked at her seriously and said firmly, "Yes, it's mandatory. Your body isn't just yours to use as you please. So, I have the right to know what you've been doing to it."
"You!... Haiz, I really don't know. For the past six months, I've been so busy with work that I haven't been eating regularly. Sometimes I eat fast food but not a lot. I usually just have coffee in the morning and tea during breaks at the company... nothing too different from others..." Bella shrugged, not seeing any issue with her lifestyle and diet.
Levi raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is that really all?"
"...Yes... Oh, recently, Max has been unusually attentive to me. Before, he used to come home late often, but ever since we met my father, he's been coming home early and cooking dinner. These days, he's also been making me hot milk." Bella suddenly remembered her husband's unusually thoughtful behavior in the past few days.
As Bella finished speaking, the atmosphere in the room became darker and more tense. Levi's face turned gloomy and gray after hearing what she said.
"... Did I say something wrong?" Bella asked softly. He told her to say everything, so she was just doing that. Why was he upset?
But Levi didn't show any clear expression or attitude. He coldly said, "I understand, what you need to do now is rest well.”
Bella nodded slightly. Only when she was in better health could she find out what had happened to her. She thought Levi would leave after speaking, but he continued to sit there, staring at her.
Bella felt Levi's eyes were very creepy, she asked uncomfortably "Is there something else?"
"She just said... I'm your boyfriend?" Levi asked, his tone softer than before.
It was then that Bella realized Lauriel had said she called the last number Bella contacted log, which was why Levi was here. Lauriel must have misunderstood that Levi was her boyfriend because Bella had never revealed she was married, and her husband was Max. Not just Lauriel, but Diana and all her colleagues at the company didn’t know Bella was the wife of director Max Cooper.
Bella answered very nonchalantly, "It's just a misunderstanding. You don't need to mind. I never disclosed that I am married and that Max is my husband, so all my colleagues think I am single."
But as soon as he heard Bella's response, Levi immediately stood up, frowned deeply, and stared at Bella with a grim expression without saying a word. Then he walked straight out of the room and slammed the door. The loud noise startled Bella. She was puzzled, not understanding why Levi left so angrily.
"Did I say something wrong again?" Bella murmured.
