Office appointment
Lindsay's POV
As I walked into the office foyer, I instantly felt nervous. It felt like everybody bored holes in my body with their eyes, judging me for cheating on my husband. That was my paranoia acting up. In a real sense, no one was staring. They all went on with their normal routine like I didn't matter.
Shaun had called me, saying I should meet him at the office instead of his place. I frowned at the idea. It wasn't such a great idea to meet in public. My husband's eyes were everywhere and it would only be a matter of time before he caught me. I wanted to do everything in my power to avoid that.
When I got to Shaun's office, I made the mistake of not knocking. I barged into his office and I instantly regretted it
“How the fuck did you let this happen again?!“ Shaun roared with rage. His face was red in anger and his eyes were deadly.
I had never seen Shaun so mad before. He was yeling at the man with him, but it felt like he was yelling at me.
Not knowing what to do, I leaned on the wall in such a way that I wasn't noticed. I contemplated walking away now I had the chance or making my presence known.
Shaun grabbed the man by the collar. "You did it again. I don't think I can save you, Franco. You are on your own”
"Shaun?“ My lips found a way of saying words. My voice was tinier, very distorted.
I noticed how he stiffened. He turned to look at me. "Lindsay?" his eyes softened immediately. "When did you..“ he turned to look at the man who shuddered in fear. "What the fuck are you waiting for? Leave!“
The man didn't wait for even a minute. He hurriedly left, leaving me and Shaun in an awkward situation. At least to me. Shaun didn't look disturbed at all.
"What are you doing here?”
"You told me to meet you here” I bit my lips, tasting the berry lipstick I had applied on them earlier.
He pinched the tip of his nose as he nodded in realization."Oh yes I did”
I stood where I was, looking for the right words to say. "What crime did he commit?”
Shaun smiled at me. The smile was warm and it was surprising because earlier he had almost ripped a man's head from his body. I got to realize Shaun was two-sided. He was very sweet to me, but that didn't mean he was the same to everyone else.
"Nothing for you to worry about" he walked toward me. “Come with me," he said when he got closer.
“Where are we going?"
“Don't ask too many questions Lindsay" he held my hands and pulled me gently to follow him.
“That was just one question and it's only fair I know where we are going?"
“Don't you trust me?"
“I do but..."
“ Then act like you do," he said, cutting me off.
We took the elevator, even though I would have preferred the stairs. I couldn't stay in an enclosed place with him without losing my mind. I kept thinking of running my small hands on his widechest while kissing him on his full lips.
"You look tensed”
I looked back at Shaun who leaned on the wall of the elevator with his eyes kept on me. "I'm not tense,” I said in my defense even though what he said was true. "I'm just curious”
We got to the last floor and went out of the building. Even when we entered the car, I didn't ask him where we were going. I knew he wasn't going to tell me. It was more like a surprise and I suck at things like that. You can't blame me. The only surprising things I occasionally got were quick slaps from Asher when I least expected them. That could count as a surprise in my opinion.
As he drove, I couldn't keep my eyes away from him. His side view was so perfect. I stared at his chiseled jawline and perfectly symmetrical face. I wanted to peel my eyes off him, but I couldn't.
His hands left the steering wheel and found their way to my ear. I didn't know what he wanted to do, but I still tensed up.
He looked at me briefly, then turned back to look at the road. He tucked my hair behind my hair and placed his hand on my neck, caressing it.
“Shaun, what are you doing?". His skin against mine was driving me nuts already.
“Where is the necklace I gave you?" he asked, withdrawing his hand from my neck. He didn't look at me as he said those words. He kept his gaze on the road.
I chuckled nervously. The truth was, I pulled it off before going home. I didn't want questions from Asher. When I was leaving that morning, I forgot to take it along with me.
"I didn't wear it today"
"Why?“
"I left it at home”
"I gave it for you to wear, not for it to be left at home”
"It's not a big deal. I'll wear it tomorrow” I didn't understand why he was trying to make it a big deal when it wasn't one.
He said nothing.
"Where are we going?”
"We are almost there”
After about 10 more minutes of driving, we arrived at a flat. A white house stood a few feet from us, surrounded by well-trimmed carpet grass. It had some flowers on the side for decoration. It had to be the cutest house I had ever seen. The type I loved. I was certain it was cozy on the inside.
“It's not too far from my place. You can easily come by"
I looked at Shaun confused. “I don't understand"
“I bought it yesterday for you. Say hello to your new house"
My mouth dropped. How the fuck was I going to tell him I couldn't stay there.
