I smacked the Devil
Lindsay's POV
I stared at my food, too bored to eat. Asher spoke with my parents and they paid rapt attention. No one cared to notice if I was eating or not. Not that I was affected. I just felt they should at least show a little bit of concern. My parents loved Asher so much that if they had to choose between the both of us, I was pretty sure they would go for Asher. He had what they wanted and that was money and power.
I couldn't help but ask. What the fuck did they need his money for? They were already old and had enjoyed their lives. The least they could do was let me enjoy my life too.
“Mum you aren't eating?" Leia was the first to point out and I was snapped back to reality.
“Yes darling you aren't," my mum said after her and I was forced to roll my eyes. I bet if Leia hadn't said anything, they would keep on talking to Asher and treating me like I didn't matter. I was their daughter for crying out loud.
“I don't feel like it"
“Is it the food? Should I tell Rebecca to get you something else?" Asher asked, feigning concern. It pissed me off. He acted as though he didn't try to kill me a couple of minutes ago in the kitchen.
“No I'm fine" I replied stiffly without looking at him. I feared that if I did, I would be forced to yell at him.
“Are you sure?" He asked, further getting me annoyed.
I stuffed the food in my mouth and turned to look at him. “I'm eating," I said, suppressing the urge to glare at him. I didn't want my nosey mother to sense something was wrong with us.
“It's okay honey. You don't have to eat it if you don't wanna" my mum said and I almost lost it. What is wrong with these people?
Asher spoke after her. “Anyway, I won't be able to take Leia to school tomorrow. You have to take her"
I looked at him in disbelief. He said that, knowing I couldn't oppose since my parents were present. He was always fond of doing that anytime we happened to be around them.
“But I have to go to work tomorrow"
He shrugged. “It's not a big deal. You can always take an excuse from your boss"
“No big deal?" The tone of my voice was raised and Asher was surprised at my sudden outburst. He had expected me to suck it in like I had always done, but this time was different. I was at my breaking point.
"Do you realize this is a new job and I can't afford to leave work?”
"So you want me to leave my work because it is less important?“
“You are the CEO goddamn it! You can fucking leave when you want to. Haven't you been the one taking Leia to school? What's the sudden change?”
"The sudden change is I have something important to do at work tomorrow” Asher's face turned red. I knew he was getting angry and that was what I wanted. I wanted him to hit me in front of my parents. Maybe then, they would finally believe me.
"Lindsay it's enough!” my father yelled at me.
"Are you fuckin serious?”
"Language, please. Leia is here” Asher said
Did he just talk about language? I couldn't even count the number of times Asher cursed me in front of Leia, but now I was the evil person?
"If your husband wants you to take Leia to work, I don't see why you shouldn't”
My mouth dropped. She was my mother and was supposed to be on my side. Why was she taking sides with the devil? Asher was doing this on purpose. He knew it wouldn't cost him anything to take Leia to school. He just wanted to ruin the evening for me. I knew it had to do with how I got him angry earlier.
“Your mother is right," My dad supported.
“Is this a joke? Asher is the CEO of his company. He doesn't have to answer to anybody and he wants me to take Leia to school?"
“I don't see what's wrong with that," Asher said beside me. “And I don't see what use your job is to this family anyway," he added and that made my anger double
I didn't know what happened. I was so angry that I wasn't thinking. I smacked him on his face. So hard that my hand hurt afterward.
A gasp escaped from my lips. I didn't know how it happened. What had gotten into me? All my anger immediately left me. I was as good as dead.
“Lindsay!" My Dad screamed at me, but I didn't care.
My eyes were fixed on Asher who stared at me like I was the devil. His eyes were fierce and I knew if my parents weren't there, he would have pounced on me. He held on to the last self-restraint he had and peeled his eyes off me.
I knew I was going to die once my parents left. I needed to make him less angry before that, but I didn't know what to do.
“I'm sorry" my voice was gone. I was so scared.
“It's fine," Asher replied faintly. I knew it wasn't. He was just trying to keep his cool.
“I'll Uhm... Take Leia to school tomorrow" I said, trying to make the situation better, but it wasn't working.
I heard sniffs from my side and I turned to look at Leia who was crying. Leia knew her father as much as I knew my husband. She knew exactly what was going to happen. That was why she cried.
“Come on let's go in" I helped her get up and we both went upstairs without saying a word.
I took her to her room and locked the door the moment we were both in. Before putting Leia to sleep, I grabbed a rod I found in her closet and placed it beside me.
I had locked the door, but I knew a locked door wasn't enough to keep Asher's wrath away from me. I was ready for anything. If laid his finger on me, I was going to end him there and there.
