A perfect way to make him pay
Lindsay's POV
My heart skipped a beat when he said those words. I swallowed hard. There was an instant cold that surged through me and that was a result of the fear that overwhelmed me at that point. Even my heartbeat was so fast and loud that I was certain he would be able to hear it if he paid close attention.
“Have you suddenly become deaf?"
My shaky hands grabbed the phone from the table. I breathed so hard and fast as I held the phone. Before I could even answer it, the call ended. I heaved a sigh of relief and the tension in my chest was soothed
"It has already ended” I turned the phone for Asher to see for himself, but he didn't look satisfied.
"Then call him back” he leaned closer. "Tell him you resign and you are leaving LA next week”
My heart sank. Asher was really the devil himself. "But it's too early to do that” My voice was very distorted and I knew it would only be a matter of time before I started crying my eyes out.
“I don't care about that. Call your boss and tell him exactly that"
A huge lump formed in my throat as I took the phone from the table. I wanted to call him, but my sub-conscience hit me. I didn't have to obey Asher. I could just tell him no and face whatever consequence.
A glare appeared on my face as I dropped the phone down. “I'm not calling him"
Asher was taken aback. He stared at me like I had lost my mind. “Lindsay you are in your right senses I suppose?" He asked and I nodded my head, looking at him dead in the eye.
“Leia goes upstairs" I turned to look at Leia who had fear visible in her eyes. She took the opportunity and ran off.
“I am not leaving L.A Asher" I stood up from my seat. I didn't know why I did that, but it made me look powerful.
But I knew it would only take a matter of time before Asher took that power from me and made me weak again.
He scoffed as he stood up from his seat and walked to my side. He looked at the phone and then looked at me with his fierce brown eyes.
“You have no say in this Lindsay," he said calmly. “Now call your boss and tell him you are resigning"
“Why are you like this Asher? Why are you so bent on making my life Miserable? He is my boss and I can tell him when I want to. You have no right to control my life. Asher, you are my husband not my master"
He snickered when I finished pouring my heart out. He was amused by my sudden confidence.
“If you keep doing this, I might not let you have a job when we get to Italy"
I knew he meant it and that made me so angry. I took the bowl of chicken sauce that was on the table and splashed it on him. The mistake I made was I didn't target his eyes properly. At least to get him blind for the night.
The bowl fell from my hand and I took it to my heels immediately. I was about to make it to the front door, but he dragged my hair forcefully and pulled me to himself.
“Are you possessed or something!" he roared in my face.
I spat on his face in annoyance. “Fuck you" at that point, I pretty much damned all consequences
The devil in him surfaced and he slapped me hard across the face. It was so hard that my face collided with the wall nearby.
I couldn't breathe. The pain was too much for me to bear. I felt something wet trickle from my head and I gasped. Before I could even get the chance to investigate what it was, Asher grabbed my hand and pushed me to the floor.
“Asher please" all my confidence was reduced to zero instantly. “I'm bleeding, please Asher" I cried out, but he still slapped me in the same place I was bleeding from.
Didn't my blood mean anything to him? It then occurred to me that this man could kill me with his bare hands if I angered him well enough.
He slapped me on my other cheek and it felt like my breathing stopped. He kept hitting me all over, not giving me the chance to breathe. I could even shout. My body was in so much shock that I couldn't shout.
He punched, kicked, slapped me everywhere, and when he was satisfied, he looked at me in disgust before leaving me there.
My body ached all over as I watched him walk away. I wanted to get up, but I couldn't. My head was on fire and I felt it was going to fall off if I stood up. I couldn't even cry. I didn't do anything. I just lay on the floor like a dead piece of log.
I got it all wrong from the start. I shouldn't have married him in the first place. I should have known he was the devil himself. If I had married another man, I would have been a happy woman, but now my life was like a miserable excuse.
I managed to stand up because I knew it would only be a matter of time before Leia comes downstairs and sees me like that.
I walked slowly to where my phone was and picked it up. The moment I took it from the table, it began to ring and it was Shaun. I didn't hesitate in answering it.
“Lindsay?"He sounded worried on the phone as he spoke, but I didn't give him a reply. Tears trickled from my cheeks instead.
“Lindsay, are you there?" he called out again, but I didn't give him a reply. I wanted to tell him everything that had been going on recently, but I couldn't. I wanted to tell him I had just gotten beaten up by my husband, but my mouth felt heavy. I didn't want to lose Shaun. If Shaun left, I knew I would be stuck with Asher with no hope of getting out of the hell he made my life.
When I couldn't take it anymore, I ended the call and dragged my feet upstairs to my room. I wanted to tend to my injuries as usual, but an idea came to me instead.
I was going to teach Asher a lesson and I knew exactly how to do that.
A satisfied smile appeared on my face immediately.
