Have a nice day my love
Lindsay POV
I groaned in pain as I raised my head from the bed. The morning sun crept into the room from the tiny creek of my curtain, reflecting on my face and I had that strong urge to remain in my bed because my body ached all over. But I had a motive that day and that was to make Asher pay for what he did to me.
I wasn't going to let him get away with it. I had had enough.
Reluctantly, I got down from the bed and dragged my weak body to the bathroom to perform my morning routine. When I was done taking my bath, I felt a bit relieved. The headache was gone, but not the body aches.
I opened my closet to get dressed. Instead of wearing my normal pleated skirt and a loose top that Asher always preferred me on, I grabbed a short black revealing dress instead.
I made sure it exposed all the injuries on my body. The ones Asher had inflicted on me the previous day. My plan was to go to his company dressed like this without putting any makeup on.
Asher had a strong rule that I had no right to show up at his office. I went there once and I remembered how mad he was at me. I was certain his employees had no idea he had a wife who he constantly abused.
It was a perfect day because I knew he would be having special guests. He told me earlier about his plans to partner with another firm for the growth of his and I was going to sabotage it. He had caused me a lot of pain. It was only fair that I gave him a taste of his own medicine.
I didn't put on any makeup like I always did. I wanted all the injuries Asher had inflicted on me to be visible. After putting on red heels which I hardly wore, I walked out of my room with my head up high. I was going to show Asher who's boss. He was not going to lay his hands on me ever again and I was going to make sure of that.
I took one of his cars. That was something I hardly did. He never allowed me to drive his cars, but I chose to do what I wanted to do that day. I even took one of his favorite cars
As I drove his car on my way to his office, it seemed as though all my courage flew out of the window suddenly. I felt a little pang of fear. Angering Asher had never ended up turning out good. There was a chance he was going to flare up without control.
As I drove with my shaky hands placed on the steering wheel, my phone began to ring. The way I jolted showed how much I was scared at that point.
I relaxed when I realized it was Shaun, but I became tense once again when I remembered he had called me the previous day but I was too broken to say anything to him.
After preparing what exactly to say, I answered the call.
“Lindsay. Where have you been?" he sounded worried and at the same time authoritative.
I swallowed hard before speaking. “I wasn't feeling too good," I said in the calmest voice possible.
“Why haven't you been taking my calls?" he asked, but this time, he didn't sound harsh, his voice was softer.
Now I was stuck, I couldn't think of a suitable lie. I didn't know what else to do, so I blurted out. “ Look Shaun, It's my phone, isn't it? I get to decide when I want to take a call, don't I?" I knew I sounded rude, but that was the only way I could think of answering the question without it leading to more questions.
He didn't say anything for some time and the silence almost killed me. After a while, he finally spoke. “Lindsay, where are you?" There was something different in his voice. It was very cold this time.
“I'm driving," I replied plainly.
“Come by later"
I sighed. “I can't" I had a mission to pull through and I couldn't show up at Shaun's house without so many bruises. He wouldn't let me leave until I told him everything.
“I need to see you, Lindsay"
“Shaun" I wanted to speak, but he didn't let me.
“Lindsay, I can go as far as sending all my guards to come and get you. I need to know you are okay”
I bit my bottom lip."I'm okay Shaun” I assured him, but that was a lie. I even had the urge to cry my eyes out when I said that. I wish I could tell him I wasn't fine and I needed someone to hold me tightly for a while. "I'll come by later” I added because I knew that was what he wanted to hear. "I have to go now,” I said and ended the call before he even had the chance to speak.
Maybe I was a little bit too harsh.
I got to Asher's office and my heartbeat increased to the maximum. I felt it was going to fall right out of my chest.
I got down from the car carefully and walked inside the building. My heels made clicking sounds as I walked through the office foyer. The people present stared at me in confusion. They didn't know who I was and the bruises on my face were a cause for concern. I didn't care about the number of stares I got. It was even better that I got more attention. I wanted his employees to see how much of a monster he was.
“I'm here to see The CEO," I said to the blonde receptionist. Her eyes held pity as she stared at me and I hated it. I didn't want any form of pity from anybody. She had a hard time looking me in the eye. Probably she couldn't stand the glare I had on my face.
“What is your name ma'am?" she smiled politely. I wasn't dumb to not know that smile was faked.
“I am his wife. My name isn't important" I said and watched as her eyes widened in astonishment. She probably had a lot of questions going on in her head like why my face had so many bruises and how I was Asher's wife. Perhaps he was the perfect boss, so she wouldn't believe he would beat his wife up.
“Oh I'm sorry ma'am, but he is in a conference meeting right now. I don't know if you can....." I didn't let her finish.
“No, I can wait. Don't you dare delay me? I am his wife and you can't make me wait" I scowled at her, making sure I sounded authoritative too. I didn't mean to be so intimidating, but that was the only way I could get in.
She gave off an annoying smile again. “Come with me," she said as she walked in front and I trailed behind. She was indeed lucky she let me in without much arguments because I was so pushed to beat her silly due to the anger that welled up inside me.
As she walked, she occasionally kept looking behind her and I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her gesture. If this was her way of showing concern, then she was really bad at it.
We got to the conference room and she planned to go in first to inform Asher about my arrival, but I didn't let her do that. Without holding anything back, I barged into the conference room and just as I had expected, Asher sat at a round table with about 20 people on the same table..
They all turned to look at me, including Asher and I bet he almost choked on air. He panicked as I walked further into the hall with a smirk on my face.
“Oh don't mind me" I smiled at all of them who stared at me in puzzlement. “I was just driving by and decided to have a stop at my husband's firm," I said those words, maintaining eye contact with Asher. I could see the anger in his eyes, but I felt safe because he wasn't going to beat his loving wife in front of his business partners.
“Lindsay" he tried to call me softly, but I didn't give him the chance to say anything he wanted to say.
“Hold it, I'm not done," I said as I walked slowly around the table. The hall was so silent that the sound of my heels echoed.
My eyes made contact with a man who stared harder than the rest. “Oh don't stare at me like that. The injuries are a normal thing. That's what happens when you have a really strong husband" I chuckled as I looked at Asher who shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “It's not hard for you to put scars on me, Asher. You know it's funny how your employees think you are the perfect loving boss” I glared hard at him."They don't know you are a monster, Asher. They don't know how you are behind closed doors. Only I know”
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I blinked them back. I would be damned if I gave Asher the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
"You are evil Asher" I looked at his business partners “He is a fucked up man, trust me," I said in a calm tone.
“Well, that's all for today guys. You can all carry on with whatever you all were doing. Forget I even showed up.“ I looked at Asher. "Have a nice day my love”
