Her personal bodyguard
Lindsay's POV.
Asher got home that night drunk. That was the least way I expected him to be. I had expected him to be furious and probably choke me to death. Asher was a very confusing being. Each time I expected him to do something, he always did things the other way.
He staggered as he made his way through the front door while I stayed at the side staring at him. He looked at me for a while. I didn't know if he was angry or not.
He raised his hand to speak. “That was a really good act you...." He paused. “Pulled at my office today" he shook his head as he tossed his suitcase to the couch.
I didn't say a word. I was alert as ever. He was drunk and was probably not going to hit me, but i didn't want to take the risk.
He started coming towards me but I didn't move back because I didn't want to give him the impression that I was scared. He reeked of alcohol and it made me wonder how much drink he had had.
“Don't come any closer Asher?" I said with a stern look on my face. I thought he was going to keep coming closer, but to my surprise, he didn't. He fell to the chair instead.
“Do you know how much you caused me?" he laughed unamusingly. “Who would want to partner with a monster who beats his wife? You painted me as the bad person and left yourself as the loving wife”
I did not doubt that Asher was truly mentally deranged. He knew he was a monster, yet he claimed he loved me.
"You shouldn't have hit me”
He pointed at me. "You are much braver than I thought”
"Asher you are drunk” I wanted to change the topic because the least I wanted was to quarrel. I had already had a rough day that day.
"Don't act like you care”
I shrugged."You are right, I don't. Have a perfect night Asher” I said and turned to leave.
"You will regret this Lindsay. I'll make sure of that” he said and I gulped. He sounded so sure. Asher wasn't the type of man that would play with his world. He was going to surely make me pay for what I did to him.
I ignored him and walked to my room, leaving him there.
"*******
“You can stop all plans of resigning from your work place, we are not moving anymore" I heard Asher say as I made my way to the door.
I froze, waiting for him to say it was all a joke, but he didn't. I turned to look at him. He had his eyes fixed on his laptop.
“What changed?" I asked, but he didn't look at me. I wasn't even expecting an answer.
“It's no longer necessary"
I couldn't help but ask myself if it was my little display that caused him to change his mind. He was supposed to be angry at me and probably push the moving date forward to teach me a lesson for messing with him. The least I expected was for him to cancel it.
“Okay" I mumbled casually even though I was dying of excitement on the inside.
A smile crept into my cheek when I left the house. I wasn't leaving Shaun after all. I could stay in LA where my source of happiness was.
Shaun asked me to meet him at his office instead of his house, so I went to his office. I was tempted to take one of Asher's cars because it was less stressful than having to take a cab. But I couldn't do that because I would push my luck. Asher was going to take out all his anger on me.
As I walked through the foyer of Shaun's office, I couldn't tame the ecstasy that was felt in my heart. This was the first thing Asher did that actually brought joy to my heart. I knew something came up and he had to stop the movement because of me, but that didn't tone down the happiness I felt a bit.
“Lindsay?“I heard a familiar voice from behind me and I turned to see who it was.
"Tricia” I smiled at her. I had totally forgotten she worked here. That was uncalled for because she was the one who brought about the idea of seeking for a job at at her workplace. She was part of the reason I got to see Shaun again
"It's been so long. I thought you weren't taken?” I watched her eyebrows knit in confusion.
"No I wasn't, but I work privately for Shaun now” it felt so good saying that.
"Wow, you are a really lucky girl. What do you do for him? “ She asked and that was the hard part. There was no way I could tell her I was his pleasure partner.
“Work scheduler” I blurted out without thinking. It was obvious she was finding a hard time believing me.
"You mean... “ She tried to speak again, but I didn't let her.
"I have to go now, can we have his conversation later?” I asked and she nodded with a smile.
"Anyway, I'm happy for you” she beamed and I smiled back before leaving.
As I got closer to Shaun's office, I began to remember the scenerio that happened the previous day. How stupid I had acted. You couldn't blame me. I had strong trust issue, insecurity issues too.
I wanted to knock when I got to his office, but I decided to walk in instead. I wanted to get more comfortable with Shaun and I needed to start from somewhere.
Shaun was busy with something, but when he heard the door to his office open, he looked up at me. I loved the way his eyes lit up at the sight of me. it was obvious he missed me. I also missed him because I hadn't seen him for almost four days.
I smiled at him as I walked casually and slowly towards his table.
“Why did you ask me to meet you in the office instead of your house?"
“I have some work to do here" he replied not taking his eyes off me. I was dressed in my regular pleated skirt and loose top, so I knew I didn't look enticing, but the way his eyes scanned my body made my feel like a goddess.
“You shouldn't have sent for me. I'll only be a distraction”
“After you ghosted me for almost a week? I had to make sure you are okay"
“Well," I shrugged. “I'm okay. As a matter of fact," I remembered I wasn't leaving LA anymore. “I feel splendid"
“Good" he looked back at the screen of his computer. “Well I have a present for you," he said, not sparing me a glance.
I looked around and when I didn't see anything, I asked. “What's that?“
“Jace" he called out and the door opened.
A young man walked in and my heart skipped a beat. Standing in front of us was my neighbor. The same man who brought me a cake for his birthday and who knew I was married!
I didn't understand what Shaun was going with this. I turned to look at Shaun in confusion and he parted his lips to speak. “That's your personal bodyguard Lindsay"
My heart dropped.
"He will follow you everywhere. If he is with you, I would be certain of your safety” he added and I swallowed hard.
I was about to speak, but Shaun interrupted me."No Lindsay, you can't reject my gift,” he said and I gulped.
