Double Date
"Ouch! Why did you hit me? Is this how you thank me for helping you?" Jake frowned.
"Well, helping me doesn't involve feeling me up, asshole!" I cried. "But thanks...." I added. He really did help me. I was feeling much calmer and started to breathe normally again. I guess it was all in my head.
"Can't believe you had a panic attack over this. We've only been stuck for like 20 minutes. Such a nerd," Jake shook his head.
I just ignored him and looked at my phone. I only need one bar to send a text, so I started to walk around, trying to catch a signal.
"Any luck?" he asked.
"I don't know.....wait...I think I got something!" I said excitedly. I decided to text Aaron. He has a car, and he shows that he cares about me sometimes.
Help! I am trapped in the school basement with Satan!
I typed it and hit send. The text came back with a message failed signal. Fuck...
"Wait, Jake. You are taller! Hold the phone high over your head. It helps," I suggested.
He nodded and did what he was told. "Hmm...still not high enough. Come on, get on my shoulder," he said.
"Whaa...no way!" I protested.
"Get your ass over here," Jake's heated eyes bored into my soul.
"I...I'm too heavy. You'll get hurt," I hesitated.
"On what planet?" Jake became impatient and came to me himself. He grabbed my waist, and before I could say anything else, he flung my body over his shoulder like I was a big sack of flour.
"Jake, what the fuck! Put me down!" I screamed.
"Just shut up and check your phone again," Jake said irritably, then grabbed my hips to lift me up on his shoulder. How much does he work out to get this strong? Sweet Jesus.
I decided to pardon his hands on my ass just this once and concentrated on my phone. I kept hitting the send button, and hallelujah! It sent!
"Success! Yasss bitch! We did it!" I screamed. "Now, kindly put me down and remove your hands from my ass, please," I said to Jake.
He chuckled and put me down. "Thank god. I thought I was about to get suffocated with your big butt," he remarked.
"I don't have a big butt," I protested. "Do I?" I was unsure now.
"Jeez...I'm just teasing. Chill out with that insecurity of yours," Jake said and gave me an intense look. I didn't realize he noticed I was insecure about myself.
We sat there in silence for a few more minutes, and all of a sudden, I heard someone rattle the doorknob.
"We are down here!" I yelled frantically.
Someone forcefully pushed the door open. Jake and I both jumped up and strode toward the stairs.
Aaron was standing there along with the school janitor. He had a worried expression on his face.
"Aaron! My hero!" I screamed and threw myself in his arms. He laughed and hugged me. "I thought I'd be stuck down here with this demon child forever!" I said, pointing at Jake.
"Yeah, speak for yourself. Like I want to be stuck looking at your hideous face all day," Jake commented.
"Alright, you two, let's go home," Aaron rolled his eyes. "Poor Jane, glad you aren't hurt," he said and cupped my cheeks.
"Yeah, I'm fine too. Thanks, bro," Jake said sarcastically.
Aaron just ignored him and drove me home first. I went inside and flopped down on my bed, completely exhausted. This had been a long day. I thought about Jake and how he helped me despite his crude behavior from time to time. Maybe he wasn't as bad as he made himself out to be.
Aaron asked me to hang out with him the next day, and I agreed right away. Anything to get away from the house. Besides, he was the real hero for saving me from the basement.
"Where are you going tomorrow?" I turned around as I heard Liliana's irritating mousy voice. She must've overheard me talking to Aaron about our date.
"Going out," I said. "We are going to play Laser tag at a place called The Main Event."
"With Aaron?" she asked. I could practically smell the jealousy on her.
"Of course, Darlin. Who else?" I replied dramatically.
"Are you two a thing now?" she asked.
"It's nothing official yet, but who knows what the future holds," I shrugged.
Liliana looked annoyed. "He'll get tired of you eventually, you know. Guys like that don't stay with one person for too long. Especially someone as plain as you," she commented.
"Well, Aaron Morris happens to think I am beautiful, so I guess you are wrong," I tried to sound confident, but deep down, I didn't believe it myself. What if Aaron was just hanging out with me because he liked that I was a little different than the other girls? What if, eventually, he doesn't think that's not enough anymore and decides to find someone prettier? I was just starting to like him, so that would sting.
I decided not to think about it too much and went to sleep.
He pulled up on my driveway the next day, Looking ultra-hot in his grey jeans and a white t-shirt. I hate him for being prettier than me.
"Hey Jane," he said and gave me a sexy grin. "Ready for some fun?"
I am ready to rub my hands all over those abs. The thought flew across my mind before I could stop it. What is wrong with me. I was thinking like a horny teenager. Bad Jane!
"Y...yeah," I said nervously. I really need to calm down.
The good news is, I love playing laser tag, so I'm pretty sure once I get there, I won't be as nervous anymore.
We finally arrived at the place. I stood by the door and waited while he buys us tickets.
"Oh, em gee Janey! What a coincidence!"
My heart skipped a beat as I heard Jake's deep voice calling out to me. Why oh why. Why can't I escape him?
I slowly turned around to glare at Jake. Oh great, he brought Liliana too. I bet she invited him to come here so she can ruin my alone time with Aaron. I should've never told her where I was going.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded to know.
"To play laser tag, obviously," Liliana said.
"You hate laser tag. You said all that running around makes your hair sweat," I said.
"Well, Jake loves it, so I like it now," Liliana announced.
"Since when do you like Jake?" I countered.
"Ladies, I'm right here," Jake said in an annoyed tone. "The point is, we are all here. Did ya miss me, Janey?" Jake asked and pinched my cheek.
"Get your hands off of her," Aaron said suddenly. He was back from the ticket booth already. "Why are you here?" he asked.
I sighed. I was really looking forward to spending time with Aaron and get to know him more.
