Chapter 24

Gwen had been barely surviving for the past one week since she left Vince home and now, all she does was go through the motions. This made Ashley very upset as he watch his friend become a shell of the girl she once was.

Not a lot of things lifted her spirits these days but one of them was a sad movie. At least then she can cry herself to exhaustion and wake up the next morning with a smile on her face.

This time Ashley wanted to try something different so picked a comedy. He wanted her to go to bed with a smile instead of tears. He just hope that the movie was enough to bring her out of the fog she was in, even if it was for a little while.

" what are we watching. " Gwen asked as she entered his sitting room in her pyjamas. She had been living with him for the past one week.

" we are watching a comedy. " Ashley told her as she started to shake her head.

" no. " Gwen refused.

" why, because you are punishing yourself and think that you have no right to be happy. " Ashley asked angrily.

" I left my mate. I don't have any right to be happy. " Gwen said

" you couldn't have stay. It was already getting toxic and you met him less than six months ago, imagine six years or sixty years in that relationship. You would have lost your identity. " Ashley said heatedly.

Tears gather in Gwen eyes but she refused to let any of them fall. Ashley continued in a softer tone. " there is no need to punish yourself girl. If he had come looking for you. A changed man and you refused to go with him. You would have every reason to be sad but he hasn't even come to look for you. "

" I miss him so much. " Gwen said with her voice cracked.

" I know you do, sweetheart. I know you do but don't worry. You will get over it. Someday, it might be hard but you can learn to control yourself and then we will go confront him. Within the two of us and our rare gifts, I know we can take him down and beat the hell out of him. " Ashley said as Gwen laughs and shook her head.

" we won't be able to touch him. "

" damn, he is really powerful then?. " Ashley asked.

" yes. " Gwen said with a smile.

" some day, you will tell me exactly who he is you know. " Ashley told her and Gwen laughs.

" maybe. " Gwen said. " let's watch the movie. "

They settled down and started watching the movie and in the middle of it. She felt his presence, she quickly left Ashley arms which some how wrapped around her during the movie and turned her head to the direction she felt him.

There he was, her angelic vampire. Looking like a dream but rough around the edges like he had been having a hard time too. His features did not sink like hers but it was clear that all was not right in his world.

When she look into his eyes, she saw black and felt the blast of anger coming from him, his eyes was glued to Ashley who was also looking at him. Her blood went cold. Vince was going to kill Ashley.

" mate. " Ashley whispered as he continued to stare at Vincent.

No, not at Vince but at the person who came along with him. The person who was holding Vincent with one hand to prevent him from charging.

With difficulty, Gwen dragged her eyes away from her mate to look at the person besides him. Courtney, she came with Vince.

"Vincent. " she whispers as he gaze stopped boring holes at Ashley who was not looking at him but rather at his mate. He turned to look at her and his eyes softened.

" hello Gwen. " Vince said as he looked at his mate and felt horror at her appearance. She looked so sickly like she had not be eating for the last one week.

" what the hell happened to you. " Vince asked harshly unable to soften his tone and Gwen flinched at it.

" you happened to her. " Ashley replied as he glared at Vince, he was visibly restraining himself. " I don't know if when I leave the chair if I am going for my mate neck or yours for hurting my best friend. "

Vince had paused at that statement. So the male didn't think of Gwen in a romantic way.

" Ashley. " Gwen said softly in a reproachful manner.

Vince suddenly understood. Gwen best friend was a male with a female name and characteristics of a female.

" you can't be mate with Courtney. You like guys. " Vince mumbled.

"I like both asshole. " Ashley retorted as Gwen hits him. " ouch"

" Ashley! "

" fine, sorry." He stood up and walked to slowly towards Vince.

" don't you dare touch Vincent. " Gwen told Ashley. Who turned and glared at his best friend, he continued and stood in front of Courtney.

" hello, my name is Ashley and I am a baker. " Ashley said with a smile as he stretched out his hand for a handshake with his mate.

" is there a place we can talk privately here. " Courtney asked Ashley who nodded.

" follow my lead. " Ashley said in a jokingly manner as Courtney eyes flashed black.

When they left, Vince focused his whole attention on his mate.

She had become rail thin and had a sad look on her face. A sad look he was responsible for. He thought that Jessica was exaggerating but no, she wasn't. Gwen had become a shadow of her former self and it is all because of him.

Suddenly he didn't feel like he needed all that hurt just to exist anymore. He felt like he could let go of the hurt he was feeling and that it was nothing compare to the fact of hurting his mate. He was ready to let someone in, to share that burden with someone because, her being hurt was killing him.

" how are you. " he asked softly.

" I have been better. " Gwen replied as she tuck her hair behind her ears in a shy manner. The Gwen he knew was not shy.

" come, let feed you. " Vince said as he moved to her and bit his wrist. He would have preferred his neck but he had a feeling that Gwen will refuse that intimacy.

" but... " Gwen started.

" don't worry, we will talk after you get some blood into you. " Vince said as he directed his wrist to her mouth and she took it into her grasp and started to drink from it while he felt the mind numbing pleasure he had always felt from the bite, he really missed that feeling and his world felt at peace once again as soon as she placed her fang in his hand.
